Most likely a whole bunch of wmds, flesh-eating viruses, and probably a mixture of hunters and striders for a "cleanup duty" to mop up all that's left. Before Breen managed to contact them, Combine were deadset on humanity, or rather, complete life eradication course. If there is one thing about combine that is absolutely true, then it is efficency. They needed resources - water, minerals, metals. They didn't care for slaves much until they realized humans are capable of communication and teleportation tech
In addition, the most horrifying thing I'd say is, while Breen is the antagonist, he is probably the sole reason humanity was alive by the time hl2 started
Your most likely correct, without Breen negotiations with the combine(and that humans are able to make in universe teleporters, idk how the combine never got a race that's able to make in universe teleporters), humanity will just become another race erased or even "COMBINEd" with genetic engineering from the combine.
Imagine playing as a "reassigned" human who manages to escape custody after the Citadel is destroyed, now having to fight their way through the Combine's home turf to get back home.
I like the part where the combine casually invaded probably another planet like it’s just another day as usual. really gives off that earth was just another number to the combine
The Earth is actually really insignificant for the Combine, they’re just so large that they can send what seems like a giant amount of forces to overwhelm the Earth when for them it’s not even 0.0000000001% of their forces. They are literally a multidimensional empire. They must be in control of trillions of worlds with life or far more. They see an entire planet as one being basically. Gordon was the one individual who changed that.
Best thing ive seen all year, Breens got a very Dune God Emperor feel to him in this. now ambigious G-man cameo too, would be really cool if the Gordon starts upgrading his HEV suit with combine Tech, that would be really cool to me. There is SO much they can do in this, its Staggering to think of the possibilities!
not sure if was intentional, but I love how you made it feel like how all the synths were just 'part' of the overworld, like cells in a unimaginably massive body, fitting with the combines use of medical jargon when dealing with humanity. Showing the combine isnt really an alien empire, but a single organism that is never ending in its growth, an organism so huge that it has to spread through universes to keep itself alive.
That's definitely my interpretation, too. I like to imagine that there is no 'top' to the combine, no actual leaders or species that's at the helm. The Combine is probably just a giant, impossibly vast AI; a blind idiot god that expands and consumes simply for the sake of it.

MAN! This captures the essence of Half-Life 2 and draws up on it in such a perfect way! Incredible new creature designs, showing how truly alien the Combine are, and that even with their humanity removed, the soldiers we fight in HL2 are the most human part of the Combine we could ever see, and that the desolate streets of City 17 are the most cozy and familiar place humanity can inhabit; the sense of scale, in which even the enormous Citadel dwarfs in comparison, showing how the force we fought was merely a policing garrison. And the last scene showing Gordon's POV making us imagine what Half-Life 3 could have been... Also, this feels a lot like the alien homeworld scene in Pacific Rim (In a good way!)
I loved that scene in Pacific Rim! It really concluded for the imagination of the viewers thoughts about what or who was sending the Kaiju from the other side 👍 it was amazing for cinema because it fits pretty well for the ending of that movie! it’s done even better here for half life to reiterate the combine threat using its unknown technology to open gateways across the multiverse 😮 this scene also shows the audience how hidden humanity was to this sinister empire had it not been conducting experiments in territories of science not understood! Tie this combine over world scene back to half life Ch1 and it’s the perfect title choice unforeseen consequences! This strikes so many cords for my sci fi itch because I’m starting to see the subject of not what if in this universe but what if in the multi universe has become a serious topic since in actual scientific theory it’s become pretty obvious the multiverse is real!
was really skeptical about this video because fan projects that usually try to capture the deeper and more alien aspects of the combine miss the mark or make them too familiar. but this was absolutely amazing. practically perfectly captures the disturbing, unimaginably massive, alien aspects of what make the combine so interesting. great work!
That's reference to Alyx's or Russell's offhand comment about whatever headcrabs would make bigger animals more or less dangerous than their naturally primal state in Half-Life: Alyx game.
I love how there's almost no humans present, and just original alien combine synth designs, and I love the giger aesthetic for the overworld bio-structure things
I actually got the vibes that this is not their homeworld but more like worlds between world. a portal hub in sort. also from the HL2 lore. some of the combine penalties is to send you to "off world relocation" for their soldiers and Civil protection officer who disobey them. this probably one of them.
I just love the organic feel of this combine overworld, all the strange creatures walking on the walls, with smaller synths climbing on larger synths and strange Pitcher Pot Ant like synths dangling from antenna and other things, its all just so good, like this machine is alive, like the planet they are on is alive. everything is alive
He basically got turned into the removed consul character that preceded him, a guy who would have slowly been fused with a biomechanical life support system to become immortal. Only now, you see that Breen would've preferred to die should he have known what being in a host body would've entailed.
This is actually the most incredible fan interpretation of the greater Combine empire I've ever seen in any form of media, and I've been scouring the web for this sort of thing for eons. Absolutely exceptional work with the synth designs, to me they seem to fit right in with what we've seen thus far from Valve. Please don't stop producing this sort of content, it's simply too good to show briefly and never again.
They won't last 7 minutes because the Earth's military is VERY VERY WEAKENED after the xen race x and combine wars or They are becoming MORE aggressive and stronger (Universal union)
More like interdimensional version of Stellaris, mixed with few RTS missions in invasions, sometimes leaving their AI to play a hybrid of City manager and Lambda Wars (RTS Half-Life 2 mod) style RTS game hybrid, with Advisors playing "no-build/limited resources" missions when shit gets real, like in Half-Life 2 and Episodes!

Seeing the Combine Overworld being explored by fans (even conceptually) is something I've always wanted to see. I've had a lot of thoughts on what it may look like myself but THIS has to be the most accurate. I gotta love the striders climbing the citadel like spiders too. That and seeing breen grub was just... chilling. EXCELLENT work, mate!
Good GOD, this is an absolutely stunning depiction of the Combine Overworld. By far the definitive one in my opinion. Every part of this is perfect from start to finish, showing how completely different The Combine is in a way that is impossible to fully describe. The choice to make Breen a malnourished corpse on life support as opposed to a host body is a little odd but it can be excused, because it’s a brilliant visual and only one part of this masterpiece. The part at the end with Gordon is also underrated. Helping to demonstrate how vast the environment is from a first person POV AND setting him up with a weapon CONSIDERABLY more powerful than his usual fare. Like the entire power ceiling just got boosted by a hundred and now he’s going to be fighting what would’ve normally been considered bosses as regular enemies. GOD I’d love a game set on the Overworld now.
This is fucking insane and perfect, they need to hire you. I can’t believe it only too 6 months. I love the striders, the combine architecture is perfect, valve would be proud.
Dude, VALVE definitely should take this into account. This first Gigger architecture impression combined with Tripods striders walking around ...oh dude, you did great work.
Love how genuinely alien these Combine look. No conveniently human-sized Combine for us to shoot at like normal soldiers, everything looks massive and like a human should never have gotten here. Taking on these enemies might be the creativity needed to get Valve off their asses to make the next game, since they only ever care about making tech demos.
metro cops are regular humans and the combine soldiers are humans that were genetically altered by the combine, but i definitely agree, the first half life had way more crazy alien stuff than the second one for some reason, would have been way more interesting if they went even weirder in half life 2
@@auroradynia I didn't really mean that as a criticism towards Half Life 2 and the Combine soldiers in that, I actually think they wrote in a pretty decent explanation for it since they are actually human soldiers. I'm just appreciating how the Combine here look truly alien and completely different from what we'd normally expect, especially in an FPS. As opposed to something like Halo where almost all of the aliens are conveniently human-sized because they obviously have to be since it's an FPS. Or even like Mass Effect, where all the aliens are basically normal people. Like, this is the *actual* Combine that originally conquered Earth, not the ones that were babysitting it after.
Capturing the magnitude of the Overworld is something that's not an easy task or really been accomplished but I think this has done it. This is the official depiction of the Overworld to me.
You, my friend have perfectly captured, nay, PERFECTED the Combine design language. Everything, biological or machine, moves and acts as if it were part of a single, omniscient, uncaring being. Breen's grandiose ranting contrasted with his fate is horrifically amazing. And the overall quality of the video is beyond words. 100/10. Cannot recommend enough!!! Valve ain't got nothin on you!!!
@@UnknownDinoHe truly is! It makes you wonder if he truly believed in what he was saying, deluding himself into believing it to justify his actions, or if he just did it all for power, and is just spewing out whatever ge thinks will make the Combine reward him.

Well that doesn't really add up with all the enslavement of species and the fact of there being advisors troops and gunships striders etc and they having technology doesn't really line up with cells. (Man I sound like a nerd💀)
@@tylercyrushoffmann6732 No offense, but you must be rather young to miss the larger concept of the COMBINE. It combines and absorbs those it conquers. That's the entire point of the biomechanical transformation of the servant species like advisors, striders, and gunships. On a cosmic scale, they're all just cells in the body that is the Combine. A body so large we don't even know its full extent.
@@tylercyrushoffmann6732No actually, it’s still pretty possible the combine’s head species has an intelligence and perspective close to that of a cellular organism or hive rather than an ideological collection of individuals. Like, as for the slavery and such, even on a cellular level you have instances of organisms incorporating other organisms, such as the incorporation of the proto-mitochondria into cells which then full became part of its function and reproduction cycle, or the alliance between a lineage of algae and a lineage of fungi that led to the lichens. Plus there’s countless examples of multicellular organisms without human intelligence totally exploiting and symbiotically working with even wildly different species even out of sheer instinct. Once you get into the prospect of alien life, these intricacies and whole new variables make things even more complex.
@@tylercyrushoffmann6732 The combine very intentionally uses medical language when speaking, furthermore they specifically refrain from this language when talking about high priority individuals (alyx, gordon, eli). I think it's extremely clear that the combine does consider it self an organism, they might not even have a central government.
But what does "winning" look like at this scale? Somehow getting the combine cut off from earth forever? They'll just re-establish connection sooner or later. Find and destroy the "head" of the combine? Surely they have an administration structure that can reconstitute itself in such an event if they are universe-spanning..
I absolutely LOVE the Striders (?) crawling around the portal gate at 1:10. It really evokes that sense of unease and disgust that we get when looking at a cluster of wooded stick-insects and the seemingly unnatural way that they move and behave. They're like bacteria infecting an open wound.
Stick insects sway back and forth on their legs to imitate leaves blowing in the wind. These things are more like a daddy long legs with legs pulled off.
i absolutely Adore how "organic" this all is. With bio-mechanical pieces of the grand machine scuttling around, crawling on things like giant spiders and ticks. Everything looking so alive
Imagine if aperature tech allows Gordon and team to teleport into their world and you go on rescue, sabotage and infiltration missions like Warhammer Darktide. I could Imagine this game playing like Half-Life+Doom+Quake
And then gman becomes super Saiyan and Eli vance becomes a Better nihilant ....but Alyx uploads Her consciusness in Glados and Ripley boxes vs dog in xen
To think this is but a fraction of the Combine Empire's actual strength... I also love the design of the extended Synth Forces such as those Striders and Dropships, really sells their aesthetic.
Actually, it's like a grain of sand on a beach, considering that the alliance knows how to create Dyson spheres and conquer worlds. For them, Gordon Freeman is like an ant that managed to survive the flooding of an anthill
Getting giant Oddworld and Scorn type vibes, this legit looks like a final level in a Half Life game. Remember this all happened because a guy was late for work

1:03 Bipedal creatures with cloth hanging from their backs look amazing! They seem more intelligent than our standard Combine soldier, and they look like they're taking commands from a superior creature (or maybe a tool Idk). And I really hyped during the in-game section! You nailed the aesthetic without making it look like anything we're already familiar with. Great work!
This is the best Game cinematic I've ever seen. I can't even fathom the work that must have gone into this. The art style takes the Half-Life motif, perfects it and then exceeds it in leaps and bounds. I need this game.
Bruh, this is EXACTLY how I imagined the Combine Overworld to be! I really love all the unique synth designs, and the sheer magnitude of everything presented. Also, in this interpretation, is the Overworld just a local command center/nexus or the real “capital” of the Combine?
This shown here is just one of MANY interdimentional-portal generators. Many of them operate simultaneously whenever a massive attack is occurring. We happened to look at the one being managed by "BreenGrub"
By the way, why does Dr. Breens host body still have his original body latched on to it? Wouldn’t it be more efficient to just completely transfer Breens consciousness into the host body?
The consciousness copies of Breen were "incomplete" and "disfunctional" to say the least (based on Mark Laidlaw writings on breengrub). This here was the latest version, the actual body parts of Breen that made it on the other side of the portal in the end of HL2. So the combine kept alive the only version of Breen that did not betray them, the original one.
I think this might be intended to be one of many consecutive sections, and whenever there is an invasion they connect the power plugs to turn the portals on and direct all the troops to them.
Literal chills. Incredible design work. Fantastic to see more synthetic focus of the combine, and every figure shown feels so true to form. That tower being a power source for the portal, the way the mechanical arm just gently plops the matter into the sphere.. wow. I need this.
This is extremely well done! The huge megastructures and architecture remind me a lot of the dune movies, both the old one and new ones. This also very perfectly captures the art style of Half-Life, and its a really great take on what a combine homeworld would look like! The models too, are amazing! I cannot wait to use them with sfm posters! Amazing job!!
This is incredible. And it does matter pointing out when folks wisely avoid "AI!" I think it's vital that we point out when we don't use plagiarism software to make assets! It shows folks they don't need it; people make are! I appreciate you putting that in the description.
Yes! This is so excellent! When Gabe spoke of the creative spark that was missing to continue the story, this is what he should have had at the time! I think this is the direction Half Life could be taken in that really recaptures the games. We went to Xen in the first one to finish off the Nihilanth. Let us go to the Overworld to finish off this Combine abomination.
Gordon: *Arrives onto a completely new planet not knowing what's going on* "So we're going to perform a grenade boosted backwards bunny hop to crash into Breengrub at mach 5 and instantly obliterate the entire Combine empire, freeing the earth and every other universe."

Gordon: *Arrives onto a completely new planet not knowing what's going on*
"So we're going to perform a grenade boosted backwards bunny hop to crash into Breengrub at mach 5 and instantly obliterate the entire Combine empire, freeing the earth and every other universe."
This is madness, Hollywood, Valve level of quality! 🤯 You have vision, you have skills, and I hope you are proud of this work! Thanks for this cinematic!
I agree! It's a work of art for sure.
The fact that watching this in fullscreen with the best resolution really feels like playing during a cutscene of a Half-Life 3 type game is just amazing.
Yeah, I would suggest people to try and watch it on the largest screen they can find. The sound though is not great...
@@UnknownDinosound could definitely use some tweaking, mostly the music however as voice sounds good imo. send me the vox and music files separately if you want and i’ll master it for you (professional audio engineer)
image could be ever so slightly colour graded for better contrast ratio, if we’re nitpicking, but already looks great as is too.
amazing job either way! could have easily fooled me that it was the official HL3 trailer we’ll probably never get…
I love the detail of Gordon wearing his HEV helmet, because the enviroment of the Overworld is unlivable for humans
Also the general vibe is so spot on for Half-Life, it really channels the vibes from Xen enviroment and creatures concept art for HL1
