It is an interesting concept. Half Life 1 has Gordon travelling between earth and zen, an alien planet. Meanwhile, Half Life 2 Trilogy has Gordon fending off the Combine invaders exclusively on earth. Half Life 3 could set in a certain time-skip period where Gordon exclusively invades the Combine homeworld this time.

What I'm surmising from its appearance is that the role of the Nova strider is akin to the Stalker: a soulless worker stripped of all its skin, "unnecessary" organs and humanity (or the -ity of whatever this species was).

I love the detail of Gordon wearing his HEV helmet, because the enviroment of the Overworld is unlivable for humans Also the general vibe is so spot on for Half-Life, it really channels the vibes from Xen enviroment and creatures concept art for HL1

Seeing this and how it was supposed to feel grand in scale, but knowing the combine span infinite universes across the multiverse makes this feel scene feel small and incredibly pointless... what good is conquering every universe in every galaxy... It' seems like an incredible waste of time when you could just conquer one planet infinitely across the multiverse and be content with what you had...
