Fantastic video, thanks for all the effort. Any major difference between the HC V180 and the Sony - HDRCX405? Leaning toward the former but seem fairly comparable
The Sony HDRCX405 and the V180 are very similar. The major difference is that the V180 has 50x optical zoom to the Sony 30x. The other major difference is Sony uses XAVC S instead of MP4. It has a higher bit rate but might be compatible with fewer devices. Although XAVC S uses an MP4 wrapper and this difference is mostly academic. But typical for Sony to do things differently and you have to be okay with that. I think the higher zoom might he the only reason I would prefer the Panasonic. Thanks for watching.
So i purchased the camcorder and received it Saturday morning. I don’t see the night mode icon available. I went to select my three icons from the operations menu and night mode isn’t an option. How do did you have to update the firmware to get the night mode icon? This camcorder is a Panasonic HC-V180. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also, my Basic owners manual is not as comprehensive as the one you’re demoing.
@22:37 show you how the menu can only show three buttons and nightvision is not one of them by default. You can change that easily the way I demonstrated. Go to page 4 of the setup menu and "select operation icons" I have 7 to choose from and the one with the crescent moon and star is night vision. You have to remove something from the menu to be able to add that one. Touch a highlighted icon to remove it then you can add nightvision. My camera was purchased in 2016 with firmware version 1.01 so it's most likely the original. What version do you have? Thanks for watching.
Not really. The time and date is burned into the meta data and you can force it to be displayed at will any time you like. But it is not burned into the video permanantly like it was in the old days. I wish you could do that because when you copy the files the metadata may or may not carry over. Thanks for watching.
Very helpful video! I bought mine a couple years ago and mine only has 1080p at 60fps and I'm not sure why this is? Is it an older model, any help would be appreciated!
@@WaybackRewind ua-cam.com/video/mChAeQze0wY/v-deo.html This video fixed it, not sure why mine was in PAL, whatever that means, but switching it to NTSC allows me to record in 1080p 60fps finally. I appreciate your help though.
hi and great intro vid, I was thinking of getting one and using it as a Dashcam while on a road trip here in NZ as our trusty Sony RX100 III has a broken tilt screen. I would like to know that once it is set up in our car and when turned on record mode that we can close the screen without it turning off as it shall be attached to my right door window ( my drivers side) The loop Recording would be good if used as a Dashcam around town something else the Sony HDRCX405 does not offer. I am also using an old JVC Everio S which was given to me and its still new so never used but the menu is so simple compared to the later models if it recorded in 1080 I would use it. Cheers Glenn v from NZ.
I have a question, Im using this cam to record hour long videos but for some reason when I check the SD card the video is always cutted in 22min videos which is annoying since I will need to syncronize the video with the audio Im recording from another source. Supposedly I'd be able to sync video with audio but it doesnt work when I select the several 22min videos, ny choices are to sync the audio with only one of the videos, or make a compound video of all the 22min videos (but for some reason I cant sync audio with a compound video, so I have to export the compound video, open a new session and only then I can sync it with the audio. I'd like to avoid all those extra steps and just have an hour long video that I can sync with the audio. Can I change some definitions to solve this issue? Or (and this only ocurred to my while I'm writing this), I just need to sync the audio with one of the 22min videos and it'll be sync'ed with all the other videos as well? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this
What are your thoughts on the audio of this camcorder? I was looking across to get a camera with awesome zoom and this one is the one that pops up while doing a Google research. I got a bit disappointed that this camcorder doesn't have the small aperture where you can either mount a mic or a light. Neither an external mic port?
Hello, I have not had any issues with the audio on this camera so the lack of a headphone jack has not been an issue. There is no cold shoe to mount a light either but there are ways to wirk around that. Many types of handles could be added to address the light but that hasnt been an issue either. The zoom on this camera is unbelievable. Thanks for watching.
In my reviews I will tell you if it has night vision mode. Nearly all cameras have it but sometimes its hidden and not obvious as on this camera. I do not have a list of every camera that has it, but if that is something folks would find useful perhaps I will make such a list.
Hi, I have a question about the camcorder. I use the manual mode. However, the picture sometimes gets brighter and darker when I switch between very bright and dark areas than when the exposure is adjusted automatically? Whats the matter?
As for the Sony 405, the Panasonic has a higher optical zoom at 50x, (versus 30x on Sony) and it shoots in conventional MP4 versus XAV C. Which admittedly I don't have any experience with but could be an issue.

If your monitor is inverted the way I have it in the thumbnail picture it will automatically invert so that the image is right side up. Once you rotate the screen back180 degrees this image should change back to normal. If it's doing something other than that then there is something wrong with the screen. I would suspect the switch that lets it know what orientation it is in has become dirty or perhaps malfunctioning. I would exercise it back and forth and maybe it clears up on it's own. If not, you cannot connect a monitor as it won't output HDMI while it is recording. Let me know how it turns out. Thanks for watching.
