I'm still using primers I bought almost 15 years ago I know in the past if a primer fell on the floor I would kick it under the bench now I will tear the bench apart to reteve that primer..
Lol I do the same

I use about 5000 primers a year, every year. Learned a long time ago to Stock up prior to the election.put away 30K before the 2020 election. So haven't had to buy any. Now that primers and powder have become available these last 6 months I have just about stashed enough away. Primers are becoming available because ammo isn't selling all that can be produced. I suspect powder is becoming short because the government is ramping up production of artillery rounds and they take 22 lbs of powder each. The gov is also starting to produce that new rifle round 6.8? to replace 5.56 and they are still producing 5.56.It doesn't surprise me that powder is taking a jump in price. After all old Joe has managed to get us in 2 wars at the same time.
I'm stockpiling primers and powders... 💪💪💪 get it while you can is my priority ... last shortage I was up the creek... never again will it happen to me ... price is devastating but being without is much worse
My local pricing is considerably higher than you listed.
I have never been a supply hoarder, (stock piler) I always used to buy, no more than what I needed for a given reloading session.
Now, if I use it & I see it, I buy it. I have been forced into becoming part of the hoarding problem. If you see, you take or you don’t get.
I have also trimmed my shooting back by more than 1/2. Practice is now 20 rounds & sometimes 10, instead of 50. I have to conserve ammo for my matches & hunting.
CCI military primers, the #34 and #41 are magnum primers safe for use with most loadings.
The prices being bantered are crazy. My last powder and primer purchases were for Alliant 15, 19, 21 and 25, and that covers all of my rifle calibers. 5# of ReLoder 15-25 were $75.95. I purchased all the dealer had and I could safely store per the national fire code including powder magazine storage.
BTW, the CCI primers were $82.50 for a case of 5,000 primers. I got 5 cases of each.
Imr powders almost doubled in the past three months. They are now 74.99 and 4064 is damn near a unicorn now.
Imr 4064 is one of my favorite powders it's extremely hard to find seen imr 4350 for 65.00 here in ohio Lil gun is 55.00 h110 is 55.00 triple seven 1lbs. Is 35.00 just crazy prices
This is spot on. It even happened Hornady with the 7 PRC. Advertised speed on the box that were reach with the first available batches and with later batches were 200 fps slower.
The reason? They can't get the same powder. The new powder is 200 fps slower. If they can't get the powder OK, but then change the fps on the box. Great and informitive video.
This is all greed. No way in hell am i paying 50 to 60 bucks for pound of powder. Anyone that does is crazy. We need to starve these companies. Stop buying at these prices. We are screwing ourselves.
Your money has lost a crap load of its value. Almost 35 trillion in debt has consequences.
The economic advisor for the present administration said the government should just print more money, and it will all work out.
Large Rifle Magnum has become the new Unobtanium!!
About 6 months ago I bought 8 lbs of imr 4064 for $300, I liked to have cried but I was almost out. I looked today and the only online retailer that had it in stock was almost $500 for 8 lbs. Glad I bought it when I did.
I would gladly pay those prices as here in Canada those prices are between 2 and $300 for 1000 primers and $100 for a lb of powder, providing I could get the components I needed.
I just bought a Fx pcp air rifle. Some of the practice will need to happen without powder and primers.
Over here in Europe the primers have dried up but some powder is still available.
Mostly Norma and Vhitavuori.
Great video good info 👍
So you know its bad when Hornady is using the competition's Staball HD in their CX Outfitter lineup due to availability.. Compressed loads loaded into the lands just to try and chase the box FPS and they still fall far short even though the brass shows pressure signs.. 1/10 of the rounds in the box won't even chamber. You are 100% correct about the LR and LRM primer availability and cost. couple that with the fact they are so far backordered that if any arrive at the shop employees eat up 80% of them before they even see the shelf.
Sad times.
Gun dealer here in Roanoke VA. We have a great stock on primers and powder at this time. Prices on powder went up 40% at the first of the year. Rifle powders are in the $65-$75 range with some IMR's in the $85 range per lb. Shotgun/pistol powders are in the $39-$59 per lb range. Primers are coming back fast except large rifle magnums. A brick averages $110 in our store. We have most brands in stock, 209's are still hard, Black powder caps are non-existent as well as 410 shotgun shells.
at least an honest video on all this! i still think we are getting hosed on reloading components.....and same with ammo, etc!
And for Sellier & Bellot (originally a French named company) It's pronounced "Sell-e-a (Hard A sound) and Below"
"A" as in "apex" "ape" or "asymmetric" Being informed makes us all sound more intelligent, even if we are experts in what we do.
I just bought 2 lbs of h4350@55.00 a lb,and 2 lbs of unique @ 60.00 a lb. Crazy times we live in now.
That's insane, it just started showing up here in northern Wi. the last 6 months.
So you know its bad when Hornady is using Staball HD in their CX Outfitter lineup due to availability.. Compressed loads loaded into the lands just to try and chase the box FPS and they still fall far short even though the brass shows pressure signs. Picked up one of the 8lb 4350 that came into the shop, other one wasn't even listed online before it sold. H1000 has been even worse in the past 3 years and with the surge of 7PRC popularity you see shipments of 2 pounds in a few months. Sad times.
H4350 is $85-90 a pound in Canada.
Add about 10 to that at Pro Bass here in Michigan. Have not found Unique in years and hoarding my last 4 lb container.
wow that's insane.... my local store just received some longshot powder 36 dollars a pound. I almost bought all they had. .. 9 pounds on my credit card Lol my wife doesn't know yet ... wish me luck please
Used to buy them for 10 bucks per thousand back in the late 90's. was buying cases of 5000 for 50 bucks or so.
I use all of them large and small pistol and rifle primers. I also stock up on primers from back in the day and I still stock up just in case and I have an excellent inventory.
If the market cannot supply. Better to make it ourselves than to be without
Great video. Thanks for sharing
Academy has H4350 for $74.99 it will stay on the shelf for that price
What a great informative short video❤
Few younger shooters are getting into reloading---bullet casting is also dying out. The reason is high cost of components/availability, as well as reloading tools & accessories. Powder used to cost $5.00/Lb; primers 1¢ each and readily available. Then came Hazmat that forced reloaders who ordered by mail order to have order larger orders to justify high Hazmat fees as well as shipping--then SCOTUS stuck us with sales tax on I-state orders. Because the large mail order suppliers are often out of stock or limit the quantity of primers in one order; this making such ordering far more difficult. I am old enough to survive this, but can understandably see that younger shooters will not put up with such things. Many I know buy factory ammo and shoot occasionally. I am glad to see that some distributors are importing primers from S. America, Mexico, & Europe. Vista has screwed us over with high prices and five years of primer shortages. Even today it is very difficult to find LP & LR CCI- primers. In 2000 CCI primers were 2.5¢ each--now 9.0¢ each --a 360% increase. Alliant seems to have given up supplying us with Red Dot, Bullseye, & Unique powders --haven't seen any in stock in over five years.
I might mention many of the hot new rifle calibers require large charges of very specific powders to achieve their performance--these powders are not easy to find and expensive...making these calibers useless IMHO. This being so, I doubt that it makes any sense for a firearm manufacture to innovate to develop them.
My local gun/shooting supply store said vista outdoor supply for gunpowder started cancelling orders that weren't complete and wouldnt send what the had in stock and just cancel the whole order, then the store has to wait 6 weeks to reorder. Limited supply, IMR 4350 @ $76.00 a pound. Manufactured in Canada
Primer’s are high priced but most are available except large rifle primers they are almost non existent powder is coming back cases sometimes can be a challenge to find and bullets are kind of shy at times but getting better
Interesting to talk about primer and powder shortage without mentioning war in Ukraine. Definitely affects e.g. LR, LRM, SP primers. Not only UKR and RU consumption, but also other countries building stock piles we thought were not needed after Cold war ended.
All the +++ is why I buy what I can find at my local suppliers, when they have any - everyone knows Grafs, and everyone knows Midway, and I can get to both and home in less than a morning.
But, with everyone knowing those two, I can almost never find what I'm after in-stock, so online it is 9 buys in 10 any more, assuming even those points have them.
It's become obscene - But, we're ALSO seeing a lot more players in the production market, now, too which is helping some (Just not me - I like magnums for all purposes, and those have become hen's teeth)
Better to have them and pay extra , then to not pay the price and not have any. ( I used to pay $13.00 a thousand) But does make you wonder how much were being screwed.
June 20th 1k large pistol primers 30.90 at academy sports
Haha, I haven't seen primers reasonably priced in years. Working on manufacturing my own now. Closest I saw was $79/1000. It was a limited time only offer, and they had about 4 cases. Not paying that much. I will make my own with lead styphnate before I pay that.
Local shop said Hornady has plans to offer their primers to the public in near future.
BIDEN ! That's all you need to know !!
Anyone used the white river primers I have some but haven't loaded any up yet? Just wanted to know if anyone had first hand experience with them?
I haven’t seen large rifle primers since 2019! Can’t find them at any price!!!!!!!!!
Gunbroker has tons of. But they ain’t cheap.
@@tomschrein417 Well, you said that right!!!
Greetings from Australia, You blokes know you're alive! Here, black powder has hit Au $200/kg and primers have hit AU$200/brick IF you can find them.
Dang everywhere I've seen bullseye it's been well over 55. Never mind red don't or Longshot (granted it's never in stock)
The prices you are stating are low compared to to my area
Also we were told by our distributors that there is a MAJOR shortage of Nitro-callose and Nitro-glycerin. Probably due to all the powder being made for artillery shells.
Varget an h4350 will be the top two powders that will stay on the market the rest are screwed
Small pistol and rifle primers everywhere but no large pistol or rifle primers anywhere.
I have no problems finding common Hogdon powders nor any primers save LRPs. The prices have gone up on primers and Hogdon powders, but nothing like the price increases I've seen on IMR and Alliant powders. I've decided to quit using them. IMR 4350 was $74.95 per lb. the last time I was in Bass Pro Shop and 8 lbs of RL-16 was over $500. That's too rich for my blood.
Alliant powders have really went up. My favorite powder, Unique, has been non existent for the last three years. I finally located some recently at $49.99 a pound! Reloading has really become a challenge!
Big time 60 dollar a pound Average price
@@jimjones9740 Wow!
I can find most primers except LR and LR magnum primers. My local shop has LR primers in an off brand that have proved to be very good, but I can't get magnum primers to save my life.
In canada right now primers range from 280$ to 400$ for 1000 primers
I have 3 boxes of 1000 primers from the same store and those CCI #41 bricks still have the price tags on them, one is $28, before covid, the next was $48, right after the ammo dried up when covid hit, and now the third is $89!
Where is his 20%??????
BTW, all my shotgun primers are in deep storage for the SHTF as I find it cheaper to buy primed hulls than to buy hulls and then primers!
Pretty sad that shrink fellation is now coming to our 1 pound bottles of powder. On a different note I definitely see spending habits as my own has changed. I used to buy multiple brands of 1 pound bottles and maybe a mixture of all different type primers totaling 5K, just primers alone. Now I am ordering primers at minimum 20 to 30 K at one time and I don’t even look at the pound bottles of powder always looking for 4 pound jugs and usually buying 4 to 6 at a time. Pretty crazy where we have come to what’s even scarier is the direction that it’s heading in.
Im done being cheated by Federal. I now use Argentinian Primers and Lovex Powder.
Astrasports has south American small pistol primers for $235 for 5,000 free shipping but a hazmat charge. I haven't had any problems with them.
Five years ago most of my shooting was with large rifle primers. Today its small pistol primers, because that is what I can get.
🇦🇺😎👍2lb / 1 kg ADI rifle powder is $119 at the cheapest place in Australia
Wow I thought you Aussies couldn’t even hardly own guns anymore with your dictatorial government, much less reload ammunition.
@@jeffbaade3521 🇦🇺😎👍Yeah we have millions of guns but we all need to jump through a lot of hoops to get them and then corporation does it’s best to take away our licences and property. Not just firearms , everything …

It’s 25% increase on 700x. 23.95/29.95. I make my own product.
FYI looks like Retumbo is back. I thought it was gone for good but new stock is out.
I halted my center fire reloading and shifted to shotgun I can get 209 primer easily I get free hulls from ranges
All in the governments plan to price us outta reloading! Can't afford to SASS shoot anymore Sucks
If small pistol primers are wanted more than anything else.... then why is it, that is ALL I can find now.
No.... I think it was a Management decision, by people that only see guns as a 9mm or 38 Specials!
Plus, hunters have been here before.... and they scoop up the few that you DO find!
90 bucks for a brick. That's almost reasonable by today's standards.
They shouldn't be more than 50 bucks.... but they seem to be.
I used to load 100 rounds every week...average.
Now....I might sacrifice 100 primers to load just hunting ammo, EACH year.
Shit Primers in Canada up to $500 a thousand of more
That's only on the secondary market. you can find large rifle for $200 1k small rifle/pistol for 130-160
Where are the 89.99 Leo try 145.00 if you order you have to pay a hazmat fee up to 50.00 for 75 lbs you need to get you info correct there are 663 ammo manufactures alone in the USA and several talking to start up just on primers srp are 99.99 and up
I went on line to find the prices. They all said that day they could ship the next day. Hazmat fees are another profit margin for many of the stores. I paid $15.00 for 3000 Small Pistol primers.
Why can’t we get Berdan primers any more the gov want let them in we buy Berdan primed ammo in brass cases but can’t reload them
700x has not been discontinued 800x has
Lg Rifle primers are rare!
I paid $120 for 1000 at Green Top
What?!? They are selling 14 oz. of powder in a one pound container? Does the label say 14 oz or one pound? I have 16 containers of powder that all say one pound. I sure hope I wasn't short changed.
Can we say monopoly hodgdon bought lot of powder companies out so fewer competition to put up with sky’s the limit the truth
Just bought a box of federal primers. Cost me 118 dollars for 1k
If its labled a poung and its only 14oz thats called bait and switch and they should be sued for misrepresentation.
All down to Ukraine, US manufacturers are struggling to keep up with the demands.
I shoot cap and ball revolvers, and finding percussion caps has been a nightmare. As far as powder goes, that’s not so bad as you can still make your own black powder. And there are a lot of calibers out there that started off life as a black powder round, that can still be shot as such like 45 long colt.
I've used toy gun caps and they somewhat works there are several videos on the subject.
the value of our money is what is causing all of the inflation. almost 35 trillion in debt money has consequences.. The whole world is printing more money also not just us.
We know what's going on. Manufacturers are price gouging the public. Period.
Supply and demand. Ukraine is bleeding our supplies so the prices are going up.
Try 189$ ......89$ is a pipe dream now
And for all who use Fiocchi products the proper way to pronounce the brand is "Fee-oh-key. If you are an Italian speaker you'll cringe at the blunt analog of pronunciation. But Americans don't have your dialect. I know everyone struggles with that name. Now you know.
Who cares.
So I guess the point of this video is all of our reloading supply’s cost a hell of a lot more than they did a few years ago. So has everything else. I stocked up during the Trump administration when things were cheap and plentiful. Still using primers that were purchased in or before 2018.
IF YOU SEEN THIS COMMING THEN YOU TOOK CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. IF YOU DIDNT THAN YOUR THE FOOL. CANT HELP YOU.
Do you need to shout? All caps doesn’t make your comment smarter or more relevant
Rant alert.
I’ve been responsible for procuring hard to find parts for old and often foreign made equipment all my life and I’ve never seen anything that was as hard to find as primers. Nothing. Ever. I’ve been reloading for ten years now, and they’ve always been either hard to find or you had to at least look around for availability. Ten years! I’d like to see a president of a primer manufacturer get on camera and say they couldn’t increase production in ten years… In WWII they built a Jeep every thirty seconds…
You may ask, why in a free market doesn’t another company get into the business…??? It’s because the big guys would suddenly ramp up production and they’d go bankrupt. They’re not evil, just smart. That’s the way the world works.
We’re the problem. Lake any business, the big component suppliers have to meet the needs of their primary customers, and reloaders are not the ammo manufacturers primary customers. We need to find a company that is committed to serving reloaders.
The majority of us Hunters and gun owners have enough reloading supplies and ammo please less stop buying this stuff for 6 or 8 year watch what happens I am serious
Experimenting requires more primers. How festive.
It’s only money
You can't buy them for 89 lol.
You need to dig a little more. They are not always available. You have to purchase them as soon as you see them.
