Hi Chris. It’s Labibah here from Roostar! Thanks for dropping by. It was great talking to you. Wishing you safe travel to wherever you go. Cheers!
For those who wish to try the Spicy Borneo that Chris had, do drop by to Yayasan Food Street. We’re now open from Tuesday - Sunday 3pm until 10pm.
Side note, We have moved to the middle wooden hut (right next to Nasi Katok M&M) 😄
Wow, Brunei is so misunderstood! What lovely people! Great vid as always Chris, making me hungry! 😂
Yes definitely! Thank you so much Hayley! I hope this series changes others opinions about Brunei
wow... never knew they speak such good English there
Yes I was also surprised seeing that girl speaking English fluently with chris.
Brunei was colonised by the British back in the day and it's the 2nd language here. Bruneians even took Cambridge O level and A level exams
Yes they speak it so well!
@@Travelwithchris would be great to meet you... thank you for all the wonderful comment of my country Brunei.
@@yanyanyshow you know so much info? im impressed? U local chinese too?
English is our 2nd language here, we learn it from kindergarten. It's essential when you're looking for a job, especially in the private sector. Education is free for all at govt owned schools. As you pursue higher education like universities, you are also given monthly allowance. You can also apply for govt scholarships to study overseas. They will usually include flights, uni/course fees, one-time book and clothing allowance and monthly allowance too.
Thank you so much for sharing!
That’s incredible! Sounds better then America😂😂😂. Seems like a wonderful country, imma make a visit there soon 🎉
@@philly5164 Come to Brunei if you wanna take a step back from your hectic daily routines, to just unwind and enjoy the open space. You certainly won't find the manic traffic, noisy environment or massive crowds when you're in Brunei. I always tell my visiting friends that it's actually a place to do nothing, although as you can see form Chris's videos, there's lots to do and he hasn't even covered our other districts like Temburong, Tutong and Kuala Belait. Our attractions are modest at best and still developing. We Bruneians don't like to oversell what we gave and would prefer visitors to discover it on their own and be surprised by it all.
@@philly5164pls do so! Most uni students can afford to buy new phones without having to go to work because of the allowances given by the Sultan and his government. I recently bought my own ipad, headphone, airpod and a stand mixer using my allowance.
Great videos (I've watched all three already), and you have very much captured the essence of Brunei, which I left about 11 years ago after working there for 9 years, trying to promote tourism for the country. Too bad you weren't around in those days, as we could have done with positive influencers such as you who really gets the place. Actually, one of my promotional lines was to emphasize how Brunei and its capital are different from the rest of Asia...more peaceful, quiet, super safe, clean, no scams or pushy vendors, like a more chilled and less crowded version of Singapore, with a more Malay vibe. One of the target segments for the promotions were expats living in cities like Bangkok, Manila, Hong Kong, Shanghai or Ho Chi Minh who could take a short break only 2-3 hours flight away to experience a different aspect of Asia, with lots of untouched nature nearby and the whole mystique of the Sultan and the country's oil wealth. Hope you were able to extend your stay and visit Temburong district, the Jerudong area and more of Bandar...will keep a lookout for more videos, which have brought so many pleasant memories of my years there...really miss the place!
My perception about Brunei has been completely changed after watching your 02 videos Chris..awesome country to hangout it seems 😊
Thank you so much! That is the goal with this channel 🙏🏻❤️
Bruneians are so good in their English ❤
Yes sooo good!
Before this a youtuber make Brunei looks bad for the sake of viewers, subscribers & UA-cam money.
Now people praising Brunei citizen because of politeness, fluent in English language, welcoming, many good vibes, great country and so on. They are well educated with good morality.
Brunei always a great country, the only bad are the haters & bad youtubers that keep spreading hate.
All looks so clean compare to many other night market in south east asia... and these people are so nice!!!! Cool video bro!
Cheers from Cambodia
Thank you so much for the support!
This is one of the best videos. Such great vibes and all the people were really positive, talkative and camerafriendly. Brunei seems like a fantastic place so thank you for showing us. Stay safe and stay cool. 🙌
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great video Chris looks like an amazing place 😄 and the food, I think I'd go crazy trying all different things 😅

Brunei Beutiful Country Excellent People Very Clean Well Educated People Amazing Thankyou For Your Video From Sri Lanka 🇱🇰👍
Man I gotta admit that Chris is so cool with his fans, you can just tell by the way he keeps it real while interacting with them in a friendly manner that shows appreciation unlike a lot of other youtubers who kind of just quickly greet and brush them away.
As per usual another great job, Chris really enjoyed Bruni don’t really know much about the place but I’m learning more watching videos. Thank you.
You said it. Awesome channel
Damn they soeak such good clear english and are so kind
Yes sooo good!
Reminds me of when I visited Malaysia, I was actually quite surprised by how well many Malaysians could speak English, or at least get by with the basics.
The people of Brunei seems very pleasant and friendly. Then again you are quite friendly and approachable. Love the idea of the night market, and by the way each boro in NYC have a night market from May thru October. If you are in NYC during that time, please check it out. Happy eating😍
Yes they were so kind! I definitely need to go out to NYC very soon!
Awesome Video Chris! That Chicken in the beginning looks delicious! I wonder how spicy it was, haha the spicier the better! 😂

Ahhh so fun to see!! Hope you’ll make more content about Brunei! I’ve never tried Pancit and I’m a Bruneian, but you made me want to try that one because your reaction that you loved it was so genuine! Hope you ended up trying out more Brunei food ❤
A great & positive video! Keep it up bro..
Everyone seems very nice looks like a cool place to visit
Yes a very chill atmosphere here!
What a great video Chris. I admit that Brunei was not even on my radar at all. And I love Asia. That night market looks like a really cool spot. Now you’re making me want to go. And that’s cool that you ran into that couple who are fans of the channel. You’re becoming a worldwide known influencer 😊. Oh and there is the 626 night market in Arcadia during summers. But it’s insanely expensive.
Thank you so much bro! I will have to check that market out sometime!
Definitely when you make it back to Asia, visit Brunei!

Tagok means "to drink" in Malay
That chicken surely on fire 🔥 lol 🤣
P. S. There's another night market in Gadong area. You should go there man!
Actually, Tagok is a bruneian word for telan in malaysian Malay or swallow in English. 😅
nope its not melayu...
Hi where is your girlfriend?
Besides me
Awesome video bro. I wish there were night markets like that here in the U.S.
There is a night market in Brooklyn NY, on the last Monday of each month. It goes from May thru October. Maybe there are others in cities around the US.
@veve_bklyn thanks for that info. Unfortunately, I live in the cornfields of Minnesota
Just saw my parents market, mission accomplished 😎✌️

Bruneian can speak good English
It's pretty cool how people stop u and be like hey i seen u on YT and IG. Your face lights up every single time when they approach u. I can tell, u love what u do. 💓 P.S. I think they have night and/or evening markets in CA. You'd probably need to look it up. I'm not from LA but I've heard of Thai/Lao, Saigon etc. night markets.
Yes that is so amazing! I still find it very crazy that it happens! Thank you for the support!
Is Brunei a rich country? Because this looks absolutely amazing. Looks very advanced and clean!
Also their English is absolutely impeccable.
Oil rich country.
Hi just wanna add on the information. As a local here in Brunei. Id say its a developing country and not everyone is rich as what the medias or google said tho but all I can say it that mainly people do live well but not rich if that makes sense 😂 but most of em does not earn a big amount in terms of salary. Some might earn just enough and some dont unfortunately. 👍 we do have oil but then the government also is trying to venture on other resources as well. And yess most but not all can speak a good english 🫶
@@buburbibik Oil & Natural gases
Lovely warm people.
Happy Birthday Sultan.
Lave from sri lanka brunei cleen city market 👌👌👌
These people are so nice it's like you'll never run into a bad person. Anyone care to educate me on how everyone seems to know English quite well?
British protectorate from the 1800’s to 1984. I had to look that up because I was also perplexed as to how everyone speaks English so well. Also found out that they don’t even need a Visa to travel to 🇺🇸. Their passport allows them visa free travel here. Who knew 🤷♂️
@@MatrixDeception722oh wow that's pretty cool. I know the Philippines was under US rule which is probably why a lot of their people speak English too. I wonder if English is widely spoken throughout SEA
It's the second language , maybe 2nd official too
@@MatrixDeception722British Protectorate from 1888-1984, however not a colony and not a territory of British, but is a member of the commonwealth... and also Brunei signed a treaty with USA in 1850 (still in place today), so free visa since then, Brunei being one of "most favored nations" of USA for 173 years...
the education is in english, as government schools take O level and A level cambridge exam
Next adventure Borneo Sabah my home state of east malaysia n Borneo Sarawak..Commonly known as the 'LAND BELOW THE WIND'.equally fascinating n amazing places to visit n experience the warmth hospitality of sabahans in particular..at last you hv landed here n see for yourself how beautiful people of Borneo are..amazing n awesome video n very clear presentation for the outside world to see n clear negative perception of Borneo..cheers mate..

Seriously Chris you could've pass yourself as a Malay, my man lol. I always thought S.E.A people and Hispanics/Latino has similar facial features. This video just proves that assumptions correct. Another great adventure, Chris. I should stop being tired all the time and actually visit these places.
Chris you should go to sarawak and sabah near to brunei. 😊

Ehhehe just wondering how to u like the food here in brunei? And thank you for visiting our lovely country
As a Bruneian, english is our 2nd language
So sound like a Bruneian talking in English. 😆 Glad you enjoyed our Abode of Peace. Please come again! 🫰🏻
I would love to relocate to Brunei with my family (girlfriend and our 5 year old daughter). Can someone shed some light on the process and if it is easy to stay there? Can I get a temporary residence permit if I buy a house / apartment in Brunei? We are from Portugal.
Best way is to get a work visa as an expat, or else open a business here.
You can buy an apartment. Landed houses (in perpetuity) are not for sale to non citizens. I'm not sure if strata law would allow you to buy a terrace lot/townhouse.
Permanent residency is very difficult to qualify for as you'll need to live here for some years and have a proficiency in Malay language. It can help your case by having contribute significant improvement to the nation. Best to check up all the qualifications requirements in person after you do get a opportunity to live here temporarily.
Being an unmarried couple, I'm also not sure about applications for your gf, as normal process of work visa application has option to include application for dependent visa for legal spouse and legal children.
She'll probably need her own job offer /establish get own company here, as you can't sponsor her as your dependent.
@@lynarystic Thank you very much for your reply 🙏 (the only one I got here on YT) and I sent emails to the INRD (Ministry of Home Affairs), several Real Estate agencies, International Schools, etc. No one replied. Just one guy from a real estate agency but he didn’t get back to me after the first email.
I did not like the feeling of being totally ignored, so I gave up the intention of relocating to Brunei. The people look nice, welcoming and amazing in these videos, but maybe that’s just with / for tourists, travel vloggers, youtubers, etc. (temporary visitors).
The feeling I get is that Brunei does not welcome the same way (and that much) potencial expats (outside of the oil industry) that would like to relocate and live there. It’s the feeling I get (I might be wrong) and I have quite a bit of experience living abroad.
So I decided to take Brunei off my list and go to another country with my family. I was very disappointed with the total lack of response from everyone (government, schools, companies).
@@ricardorodrigues1163 You're welcome.
There is unemployment issues. Then there is also a policy to hire citizens and permanent residence first. Some jobs will have an easier time for expats to secure a position. Vacancies are only open at certain times of the year. Private companies cannot afford to pay well. Well funded companies, partner with overseas business, who have their own international staff to relocate.
The government process here is not as efficient as overseas. You are not being ignored on purpose, the use of digital communication has never been something the government invest in (low priority compare to other responsibilities). Local people experience the same thing. aka, you need to follow up in person.
As you are non oil and gas industry, your best chance is to establish a business presence here and become the pioneer to expand. Without a local partner, you have a very slim chance to succeed. That is how the government policy works- all foreign investment must be done in partnership with local companies.
There are foreigner businessmen here. A sizeable population are in the merchandize/ retail industry/ construction work. All of them have a local business partner, in order to "smooth" the paper work process/ networking.
Another thing is. It's already September. The expat hiring window is usually around the summer holidays timing to relocate then again around the end of year. It's to do with financial calendar and the international school semester timing.
you should go to Pasar Malam Gadong chris in brunei
I need to try that place!
I used to have chickens and I had one breed that was called. I am Samani and it was completely black chicken black skin black meat, black everything and it was very expensive. I sold each chicken at one point when they were old enough for $150 each.
@22:54 tbh, thats not a beef. but its a lung. cow/buffalo's lung😶
Oh wow!!!

Dude, this place is so orderly, clean, and pleasant. I would have never thought of the night market visit to Brunei. You really have a nice presentation, casual, friendly and polite. Good on you for being such a great creator.
I have a set of wireless microphones that have a button on the side that pretty much blocks out all sounds except for your voice and if you get into a situation like that, you could probably use that

Pancit is pronounced as ‘pan-chit’ and it means ‘splurt’. So the filling was supposed to explode when you bite into it.
Traditionally, the delicacy’s name is puteri Mandi, (princess bath 🤭) but i guess it’s more fun calling it pancit.
Absolutely amazing people and great place to relax.
