600 miles a day is a pretty good strool , I retired from overnite /ups freight after 41 years when I was line haul I hardly ever got miles like that but when I went p&d it was 12 hrs a day all the time with ot after 8 we did pretty good , I get a kick out of watching y'all it brings back a lot of memories
Chuck, Another great video riding with ya i feel like I need part of your pay check, Na that’s ok being retired i still get my miles is riding with you. Have a blessed evening.
🤣 I will put you to work Mike 😂
I do long-haul for Ralphs Grocery Company/ Kroger subsidiary in California. It made me laugh about the cluttered daycab that does long-haul. I tried several times to downsize what I carry with me so my tractor doesn't looks like a woman's purse. 😂 I've come to the conclusion that I actually need everything I carry with me for the four days I'm gone. 🤷🏾♂️ welp!
The thing about running exclusively at night is that on the weekends you're out of it during the day trying to spend time with your family.
I used to hold the glad hand in front of me and just spit on the rubber doughnut. the 2 rubber surfaces would join together pretty smooth and u sully didn't twist the doughnuts out of position.
Loved the video Chuck! Glad you are enjoying the extra board. It’s been a long week and I’m sure you are ready to spend some time with your family.
I definitely enjoyed my first week on the XB. Was much better than a bid run. 👍🏻
@@TheTulsaTrucker now you just need the new model Cascadia and you’ll be all set!
I-22 to B'Ham. Went right through my home town - New Albany, MS. Way back then, I-22 was Hwy 78 and 2-lane all the way to Memphis. Thanks for the travels and view into your work day. Stay safe.
It was a great drive, I22 was nice and smooth, didn’t see much because it was pitch black 😁.
Oh snap! I used to run up and down 72 and 78 back in 85-86 from Little Rock-Ft. Payne area, not work related though. Nice drive.
Great video! Thanks for the ride.
Good stuff! Thanks for the great content Chuck.
I used to work for roadway express. all slip seating. they had no passenger seat for the xtra room . you never left your stuff in the truck because you could be at the motel and the city guys would come and take it and then when you got called to go you work they would send a taxi and when you got there they already sent it down the road with another Road driver and you got the truck the other guy brought in.
That would definitely suck!! Glad it’s different now days.
Nice video Chuck so much change sense my days . We did not take the trucks to the hotels. We parked at the trucks at the terminals . They drove us to the motels and picked us and brought us back to the terminal.
We made our own radio boxes out of tool boxes . We would run the wires out the vent window for our antennas for our radios and CB . We used Vice grip that we attached to the mirror or there was a metal bar attached outside the door you could use.
All the Yellow line haul trucks did not have fuel Gauges. Also no factory AC we had these boxes attached to the back wall they were our AC Yellow would take them out and use them on new trucks when they switched old line haul trucks to city trucks . We had no passenger seats there was a box bolted to the floor with all your safety stuff . We drove Brigadieres that was Yellows road trucks . The DOT rule was 500 mile a day . They said your average seed was 50mph so ten hours a day equals 500 miles .
The dolly’s in my days were not as good as today. That’s why pulling doubles was called wiggly wagons they wiggled from white line to white line . Pulling triples was worse . You we’re lucky to do 50 mph .
Stay safe
Hey Denis Ryle . When you quit extra board what was the mileage rate?
Its still like that . I drive like e haul
Thanks for the video Chuck! Keep safe!!
Thanks Jim!! 👍🏻
It's nothing like a casscadia ride man...great video
Yup 12 speed .... I drive a Cascadia at publix distribution ... man like driving a Cadillac ...!!! I love it ... the newer ones have 2 steering gear boxes ... power steering is like driving a car ... there nice ...
Thanks Josh, definitely want one in the future!! 👍🏻
Chuck, another good reason to use GPS even though you have gone same route multiple times is, if there is any accidents to get around.
Super! great time !!! life is indeed sweet! thank you!
Thanks for coming along Daniel!! 👍🏻👊🏻
I did line-haul, got to a terminal in NJ, no one knew anything about me coming, had to sleep across the bench seat of my day cab, got about 3 hours of sleep, then on to a Cape Cod barn, then onto Chicopee, Massachusetts. Got absolutely no help there. Left the rig, let somebody else drive for this outfit.
G Day from New Zealand. Don't see manual Volvo's here anymore Chuck, or conventionals for that matter, just cab overs.
Really enjoying following along with you,
Thanks for stopping by the channel Dave!! Manual’s are a dying breed in this country as well.
Hi Chuck came across your channel today . Enjoyed it .I'm any old gear jammer from the late 50s all up to the middle 70s . Keep up the great videos . Look forward to seeing more . ( BE SAFE GOD BLESS )
Welcome to the channel Larry, glad to have you here sir!!
I knew that was your truck I seen at the fuel island. I’ll catch you next time. Love the vids Chuck. Keep doing your thing. Hopefully I catch you one day. Out the Memphis Terminal
I’m sure Memphis will be a home away from home!! Definitely say hi if you ever see me. Always enjoy meeting people who follow the channel!! 👍🏻 77236
Coming out of school soon gonna apply with estes for road driver
Man chuck the only thing you need in that cab is a tv and refrigerator lol 😂. I can’t wait to see the drone footage in the future. I have a dji Mavic mini. I’m a day time person so I would be a daytime driver. I love your videos and content on this channel. Keep it up. Hope to be a future employee with Estes if it’s God’s will.
I’m definitely a night time driver, this week I won’t have half the stuff I did last week. Allot less clutter this week 🤣👍🏻
Man I spent a lot of my childhood on that street in Birmingham
Been working for FedEx Freight as a line hauler for a year now and its nice to know I have the same good habits as you do. Recently found your channel and love every video of it. What time of gps do you use by the way? It looks really good and high quality
I use the Garmin OTR 1000. I’m helping in the city (P&D) until January and then back to LH. I definitely miss it. Thanks for following along.
I’m watching you from co Derry in Ireland, great video
That’s Awesome, welcome to the channel!!
love freightliner
When I was at xpo I had a 2021 Freight Liner Cascadia son it would pull and it felt like I was just gliding through the air.
That’s exactly whey I need one 😁
Hey Chuck you have to try and get one of these trucks with sleeper instead. 18:10 :)
Wouldn’t mind that either
Hang onto that volvo as long as you can lol, I love having my stick
I will if P&D doesn’t tear it up first 😂😂
Chuck i’ve been watching you and freight hauler for a long time! I wish more people had your attuide and this world would be a happy place!! I’ve been wanting to get into LTL and finally got it today with XPO.
Welcome to the LTL family!! 👍🏻
@@TheTulsaTrucker i love watching your truck videos on your UA-cam Chanel
I have worked at Conway xpo for over 20 years. Hard work, long hours but it can be rewarding !!
@@ryanhutchinson9657 good luck buddy I just left from there if you can handle working the dock 3-5 hours a night and driving you got it made. I was going from Knoxville TN to Birmingham AL. Your pushing your 14 hour clock every day. I left for something better.
I've been at XPO for just over a year now. As long as you don't mind doing 12 to 14 hours everyday on linehaul and can deal with nights then you'll be fine. P&D the norm is typically 11 to 12 hours at least at my location but shorter (and longer) days do happen. It really just depends on your start time and your route(s) for the day. Pay is great though
What iPad mount is that? Most definitely will be looking into it.
Should check out Tub O Towels I use them in my truck and they are Awsome for your hands and airlines and stuff
Thank you 👍🏻
Hey I drive the old cop car at 6:45 I'm a dock worker at 056 hoping to drive soon
Bummer. The charging splitter you use is unavailable. The one I tried to use can run an iPad, iPhone, and Garmin dezl. Thought I found a better solution.
Hey Chuck! I’ve been watching you and Chris for over a year. Your videos are great. I was wondering how you guys stay awake and stay occupied while you drive. I drive a Tri axle and do the most 200 miles a day which isn’t very often. I’ve been thinking about doing line haul.
Your body switches over to night really fast. We also talk on the phone with other drivers allot. Listen to music etc. I definitely prefer the night vs the day.
THE 2 TRAILERS YOUR PULLING, WAS G I TRUCKING, AND I DROVE FOR THEM FOR 5 YEARS AND WAS VERY HAPPY UNTIL ESTES BOUGHT THEM OUT AND CUT MY PAY.
Sorry to hear that.
Nice set chuck what kind of gps do you use I just use my phone lol. Stay safe out there bud. Keep up the good videos.
I use the Garmin OTR 1000 👍🏻. I appreciate the support sir!!
@@TheTulsaTrucker any time chuck your a good guy. Hey what kid of holder for that gps is that is it magnetic I think it’s cool bro. Stay safe bud
hi brother thanks for amazing video I very enjoy . good luck 🤞😸
Chuck I tried to send a picture of my old radio box and could not. Not sure how to do that
We're did u get all your equipment from Amazon ...? Estes is everywhere from what I can see was it hard your first week did they train you with a trainer and how long was the training. For did they have u drive with a trainer ...?
Already experienced so only had 3 days with another LH driver but if you are new normally 5 days of training unless you feel like you need more. It’s pretty easy stuff. Yes, links in the description of every vlog.
I remember looking at the test book for doubles endorsement, it said rear trailer is to have air valve closed, can you show that next video??
Our pups don’t have valves, they have glad hands that dummy glad hands go over. There are companies like FedEx that have valves on their pups.
Like your video keep it up have a blessed day
Thank You Joseph, I greatly appreciate the support 👊🏻
Hey chuck I just got my CDL permit getting prepared to go to school and complete the process am getting all my endorsements as well
Getting all your endorsements is a smart move, learn that pretrip will make the testing so much easier. I have a playlist on my channel. Much success sir!!
@@TheTulsaTrucker I will watch those videos thank you
You need to own your own truck. I worked for Estes from 1997 to 2013 got tired of the road and went on to other adventures and never ran across a driver that takes so much care of a truck.
I owned my own business for 16 years it’s nice to just drive not thinking about the business side of things.
@@TheTulsaTrucker That explains why you take care of your truck. I ran the city, then extra board and ended up on line haul runs. I used to have to swap trucks sometimes when they had to be serviced a most of them were not taking care of. I worked out of the Hammond Louisiana terminal. Stay safe out there.
Hi Chuck👋 I’m a subscriber to your channel and I’m not a truck driver but I do like trucks trains and planes my question sir is what is the difference in the freight that you haul as a truck driver versus the freight I see on Estes trailers and containers I see on trains just wondering have a good day sir
We haul just about everything except for refrigerated food. 👍🏻
South Eastern terminal near my house in Knoxville TN
Church what trucker gps do you use and what is the charger for it?? I love you set up
Garmin OTR 1000 and the charger comes with it, I just use a ram mount arm for the extension. 👍🏻
What brand and size gps do you have? Been shopping for a good one. Thanks!!
Garmin OTR 1000
It seems like the dolled are easy to move are they real lite it seems like they would be very heavy
They are not light but move able
That Atoka,OK terminal has to be the smallest little estes terminal I've been to, wasn't even sure where to put the bills
It’s definitely a small one but at least they had the gravel drop yard 😁
The Estes terminal in Draper Valley Va. bought the little motel that was near their terminal. Only thing is, it is not a very nice place, old and out of date.
So you just go from terminal to terminal? No live loads?
Yea sir, none of that waiting around stuff 😁👍🏻
How did you get the Estes gig? Where did you get your experience?
Worked for Pepsi the. Came to estes after 1 year.
I use to use the tight fitting Leather work gloves, but they wear out kwik though.
Memphis TN my hometown.
BBQ was 🔥 👍🏻
Chuck, what happened to the feed and seed store?
Not for sure.
When your in Dallas brother let me know I just started last week
Was there last week, should be a terminal I visit quite often. 77236 is my truck if you ever see it definitely say hi!! Welcome aboard
How long are u out 4 also how much gone time how far do you drive what part of state u from. Estes has emil me but I rather get the good news from u I'm from southern California how long is the training for ...?are u guys union ...? What the sign. On bonus ... Is the company taking care of u ....?
You definitely need to talk to a recruiter because California is totally different than Oklahoma.
Memphis is an unorganized terminal. They will take your dolly your rear trailer and the terminal is so big it might have taken you a while to find exactly what your looking for. There are a few really bad hotels there to. Cant recall their name but if i seen them i will not stay at them again.
I stayed at the sleep in, was a great hotel. It’s definitely a larger terminal but just have to take your equipment to a quieter place on the yard. 😁
❤❤❤❤❤
The Estes sleepers I've seen are white, any idea why they don't paint them normal fleet colors?
Was told for resale purposes
@@TheTulsaTrucker Thank you.
How Far East do u go do u go up to like NYC or Massachusetts
I won’t because if where my home terminal is. Normally never more than 2 dispatches away. 1,200 miles or so.
Wait you don't have a cb? I would never drive without one!
Another driver has one said he hardly uses it because it’s mainly trash talk and vast amount of drivers no longer use them.
I prefer working at night.
Light travels at approximately 186,282 Miles per Second.
Multiple that by 60 and you get the distance Light travels in One Minute.
Now multiple that by 8 and you get the distance to The Sun.
During the day, The Sun is the furthest distance you can See.
Now consider nighttime.
Alpha Centauri (Our nearest Star) is approximately 4.3 Light Years distant (186,282 Miles per Second, times 60, times 60, times 24, times 365.25, times 4.3)
And that’s only Our closest Star.
Consider that all the rest are much much further away.
I definitely prefer working at night, because you can See so much further.
I definitely enjoy driving at night now when there’s inclement weather it can definitely make for a challenge but for the most part it’s very peaceful, little to no traffic.
Chuck don’t call central when your at a terminal with dispatchers inside. They will freak on you bro
They never have an issue with it. Those dispatchers have enough going on as it is. Self dispatch has cha fed everything. 👍🏻
@@TheTulsaTrucker ok sweet. I’ll give it a try. Shannon screamed at me one night & said what the F are you doing calling me when there’s dispatch inside? He said can you imagine if every driver did that what kind of staff we would need?
@@SittingWithDogs the dispatchers in the terminals call central for XB drivers because they can’t plan us. I cut out the middle man. When I call in I say the following
This is 195T1, Chuck Billy, at what ever terminal I’m at, then how many hours I have and that I am self dispatch. They always say okay will send something over. In less than a minute my dashboard has something and I hook and walk in and grab paper work and take off 👍🏻
Yes they do i have one but, power wise its horrible lol
Would trade some power for comfort 😁
Man when you lay down in Memphis I end up laying down in Tulsa
I got the better end of the hotel option 😁. Tulsa needs some new hotel choices!!
@@TheTulsaTrucker we stay in owasso they have good choices down here
YO CHUCK you ever had to sleep in the daycab
No sir
Why does Estes not let you line haul guys have trucks with sleepers?
Some do
You got a Z06 on the way??
Heck no, not in this environment. Wait for this craziness to calm the heck down.
@@TheTulsaTrucker I can probably get you one through my dealer for MSRP.
I drive a kenworth

I just retired from fedex ad am in Birmingham so I know where you Wes not a good end of town
You obviously haven't driven a KW. To me that's the best riding truck
Drive. The T680, turn radios wasn’t the best but drove pretty good.
Hey Bro don't forget your hammer
😂😂. I got it!! Thanks for the reminder👊🏻
So there's no guarantee you'll get home for your days off🤨
You will get home just have to help remind them if you are not witching 600 miles of the house on the 4th day. They want you going home.
3rd hi
You allow to say hotel?
Yes, every day I’m out!!
@@TheTulsaTrucker, I meant are allow to say the name of the hotel you’re staying at.
What iPad mount is that? Most definitely will be looking into it.
It’s the one the GPS came with.
