Back when I started, my tractor had a laminated US map book, and individual city maps. Only knew of one driver who owned a laptop with Rand McNally on it. There was no Garmin, or TomTom. All I had was a Nokia 3310 brick. I had a 2000 Freightliner Century. I would take a dry erase marker and write my route and fuel stops on my wing window. Wipe them off as a made my turns. That was my GPS.
Hey Chuck!! Congrats on the extra board!! We've talked a bit over emails and back and forth on your channel sometimes, but I thought it would be fitting to give you this update since you're putting up your first official extra board "maiden voyage", that I'd let you know today is my first night at Estes. I'm officially in the dock to driver program for Estes starting tonight. Hahaha!! Stay truckin' and here's to getting a chance to meet you in person someday!!!
Hey Chuck, like your channel and videos. When you mentioned the atlas it reminded me of my dad. He was a trucker who unfortunately drove long haul when most of the trucks were not as nice and comfortable. That's how I learned to drive a semi. Stay safe sir!
When i was still driving Chuck, I had a guy ask me to come with his company to drives those double pups. I said just not for me, don't like always taking those apart and playing games with that stuff. I enjoyed just going to one location, get loaded and the drive to my destination and get unloaded. No troubles that way, mostly no touch then.
Thanks, Josh. I’m glad we could help you, and thanks for helping us. I know I’ve been out here before, but I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few things. Stay safe
Shocking difference. United, later Consolidated Freightways line haul dispatch from 1970! Yes I put the loads equipment together for over 100 doubles every Friday night. Ran the inbound and outbound freight docks with over 100 Teamsters on the cross dock as part of my tenure. Personally I believe the old way was more efficient and better. Way less empty wasted miles. Drivers home every other day at most. All done on relays.
When I ran line haul in the 2000’s from Secaucus, NJ to Charlotte, NC, I would arrive at Charlotte (282) at approximately 330pm to 630pm and the yard jockeys where quiet so I pull up to them and ask where they want me plus they get me my info, after a while you get to be on 1st name basis and they help you and you help them !!
Good for you Chuck. Always wanted to be a trucker, but health has kept me from doing it. Working on my health as best as I can now, but this line of work I am digging. I'm a mixed bag. Congrats on the BID, got a couple of questions, 1ST, do you know where your teams are based out of since I saw the sleep cab and also noticed a refer in Memphis, do you know if there are a lot of them with Estes? Thank you for what you do, and peace ✌️
Any terminal can have a team. When a terminal is hiring a team, they’re literally hiring a team. Estes doesn’t force anyone to team, and they will not hire a single driver to pair them up with a teammate. So if you see them hiring for a team, remember they are looking for an established team to come aboard. However, if you and a friend want to team, each person has to pass the background check and meet all requirements. If you’re hired on as a solo driver, and later wish to team with another driver from your terminal, they can make that happen, too.

Great video bud! I use to hit that Fort Smith weigh station every Thursday morning driving for Casey’s lol. My decision will be tomorrow whether ill be joining XB team in Springfield Mo. I wanna ask ya about breakdown and detention pay. How does it work,or if any at all?? Thank you sir,for all you do!!!
Break down pay starts after 2 hours but I have never had to use that. Good pre trips go along way to keeping you off the side of the road. If we have a truck go down and it needs towed we get to the next terminals d grab another truck and go. We don’t have dentin because we are not sitting at shippers and receivers. Seldom do we wait to move after our 10 at least I don’t. If you like laid back, zero hassle, zero drama and over 100k a year XB is your spot 😂
Im kinda worried to. I don’t have an automatic restriction, but have very little time in a manual. And I mean, pretty much just in the dock using a manual. So idk what they’ll say about that. The terminal manager pretty much shrugged it off in the interview. Will see. I just hope that don’t cost me.
This looks like a cool job, nice and easy, and they put you in a hotel as well?! Can't be bad, where do I sign up? Only slight problem I have, is that I am in the UK!
I have a interview with Estes next week for P and D in okc. Wondering what your day looked like as far as hours a day doing P and D. Should I plan on 10-12 hour days?
10-12 was average. Sometimes 8-10. Depends on the freight and what they have you do. When new you get the crap runs but that’s just earning your strips and then once they see you are a worker and dependable they move to you better routes.
@@TheTulsaTrucker I appreciate the response. Yeah I’m currently delivering beer but the pay is pretty low for what I am putting my body through on a daily basis. I’m not afraid of doing hard work just need to be compensated. Appreciate your videos makes it pretty easy to see what to be expecting.
XB starts at night but normally by the 3rd day you schedule is flipped and you drive the rest of the week mainly during the day until winter then it always seems like you drive at night.

@@TheTulsaTrucker Thanks for letting me know Chuck! Stay safe brother.
Hey are they hiring cdl drivers at estes
Aircraft landing lights actually show down the road.
Hey chuck do u need and road experience because I’m tying to get my cdl
You need 1 year of tractor trailer experience once you obtain your CDL. Be sure to get all your endorsements
If you make it to Pennsylvania, near the west Middlesex terminal, I will grab your dinner.
Thanks Ray, I definitely want to see that terminal!!
@@TheTulsaTrucker it's a win win situation I think, if you can get a run to here. 😊
You need Hazmat and doubles?
If ya want to max your potential get all the endorsements
For an LTL position YES!! 👍🏻
Okay I better start studying.
@@TheTulsaTrucker Thank you very much Chuck! Im heavily leaning toward the BIG E!!! Lol I metioned you in my interview btw :))
Hey Chuck is that a go pro you have attached to the windshield? Very clean man
It’s a Sony AS3000 👍🏻
@@TheTulsaTrucker thx buddy
This looks like a cool job, nice and easy, and they put you in a hotel as well?! Can't be bad, where do I sign up? Only slight problem I have, is that I am in the UK!
🤣. Yea you might be just a little to far away to work for Estes. We do have it made.
@@TheTulsaTrucker I’m willing to travel!! 😂🤣😂

@@TheTulsaTrucker I’m willing to travel!! 😂🤣😂
why dont they give you a sleeper truck?
We stay in hotels but some drivers do have sleepers
I see a lot of vans being pulled by big E while out in my “Young Virginia” team truck. Your company buying fewer pups these days?
No just pulling more bulk freight.
@@drewlachata9797 I worked for Pepsi so know what you are going through. Your worst day in LTL is better than your best day slinging cases. 😂
Chuck Estes around me only seems to hire hub/combo drivers, also what GPS do you use?
Just ask if you could apply for n XB position. Some terminals will make one if someone really wants to do it. Garmin OTR 1000
hi chuck from the riverland of south australia in australia wate scale are cold weigh bridges in australia
Very cool 👍🏻
Does Estes pay the same drop/hook rate for hooking/dropping 53' vans as doubles?
No pay for the 53’s
@@TheTulsaTruckerAppreciate the info. I enjoy the vids, thank you sir.
Are all the trucks manual? And where do you stay when out?
No most are auto shift, stay in Wyndham and choice hotels most of the time.
@@TheTulsaTrucker nice! Might have to take another look.
I want to apply for exra board but I don't like driving nights is that possible?
XB starts at night but normally by the 3rd day you schedule is flipped and you drive the rest of the week mainly during the day until winter then it always seems like you drive at night.
You hiring in Colorado
Denver for sure
Hey Chuck I saw white Estes trucks pulling white big E 53 foots, are those a different division??
They are mostly team trucks but some times they are solo drivers.
@@TheTulsaTrucker so Estes really has everything for different types of driver preferences???
Hey Chuck how far from a terminal can I live to do lol for estes
85 miles
@@TheTulsaTrucker thanks for responding
What gps is that you are using
Garmin OTR 1000
Is there a big difference from otr driving because I been otr driver for long time
Extra Board drivers are gone 4 days and 5 nights but have off 2 1/2 days. Plus we stay in hotels after each drive shift. It’s nothing like a truck load carrier
Sir just a quick ? Do your hrs start when you leave the terminal or when you get behind the wheel thanks
When I start my pre trip before leaving out.
Ok thanks for letting me know
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
