One of the best scientific lectures/explanations on youtube... and I've seen a lot! Thanks.

The Nodes of Ranvier act as amplifiers. The signal strength weakens as it travels down the axon but at the nodes you get a new AP. :)

Hello Professor - I am getting a master's in human anatomy and physiology instruction (MS HAPI) and am researching ways to learn histology at the undergraduate level via the internet. I hope you don't mind, but after reviewing several other You Tube sites and presentations, I have chosen yours to represent instructional narratives with visual aids. Bravo to you for putting these together! I wish you great success.

I'm doing a correspondence course and I'm often left with questions and no one to draw me a picture, both literally and figuratively. I think I have it now, thanks for the great graphics!

Your video was very clear and very helpful! I am teaching AP Biology for the first time and I was at a total loss of how to teach action potential until I watched your video. Thank you!

THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU ARE SO AMAZING, I LOVE YOUR TOME OF VOICE, THE ANALOGIES UTILIZED IN YOUR VIDEO. It has made it that much more comprehensible for me, in my case returning to school after many, many years away being a mom! It's makes perfect sense!

I was a little skeptical at first when I saw that you were going to incorporate kids running out of class rooms and relationships with the action potential but you managed to break it down quite well when it was all said and done. Good job.

16 minutes ago I didn't understand action potentials...now I do! Thank you very much - I have an exam on tuesday (at GCSE level) so although for me this is in a little too much depth, if a question on action potentials comes up, I think I'll have a much better understanding.

Sorry... this is one of the areas I had to simplify because it's beyond the scope of most of my intended audience. In truth, there are at least 5 different types of voltage-dependent K+ channels in human axons. For details, check out the article by Reid et. al., in Journal of Physiology 518.3. Hope that helps!
