Have you tried just giving him the high calorie milkshakes? My dad lived on them when he was sick. That should give him plenty of nutrition until the tonsils can be removed.

I feel for you both ! My ENT dr had to do emergency surgery on all 3 of my boys when they were 8-9 1/2 months old. It was awful ! And all 3 had somewhat of the same surgery: tonsils & adenoids removal with flask tube insertion in both ears ! When my oldest went overseas to fight the war, he called me & told me he’s in the medical tent. I got scared ! He said, “mom I thought you said I got tonsil surgery !” I said, “ya did ! All 3 of you boys did ! Why you ask !” He said, “they’re back” !
I’m like WTF ?!! So I called his ENT dr to let him know what happened ! He was shocked as well that they grew back, but he did mention that some do ! My 2nd & 3rd child’s tonsils haven’t grown back ! I cross my fingers in hoping they don’t ! The dr was just floored that they grew back & that he was stuck overseas with an IV in his arm !! They normally don’t grow back ! I’m like, well my kid is far beyond NORMAL !! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I understand what this is like even if in a slightly different way? A few years ago I was taken to an emergency room for loss of speech, movement, and all symptoms of a stroke. I ended up being released even though I couldn't speak, one of my eyes wouldn't open and I still had half of my face drooping. Later that night I started having seizures and it's because they wouldn't listen and go through the steps to make sure I wasnt having a stroke. The more it happens the more you wonder "why, why won't they just listen" and the only answer is the exact thing that you said the nurse told you. Advocating for him is the best thing to do and eventually someone will listen.

They do care! I’m sorry you’re feeling this way but it’s hard on both sides.
They do not want to put him under and perform surgery unless absolutely necessary. Medical protocol requires them to wait at least a week on meds to get his tonsils down unless he can’t breath. As a swallow specialist I can tell you that I have seen patients on liquid diets for months. I know it’s but be grateful they are trying to help!

It might not be the doctors more then likely it is ins. I went through something like this and I had to call the ins. co and they had a children's doctor on my case for a female problem of a 28 year old I told them to get me a GYN and that I would call every 5 mins till I talked to one two mins later I was told to go to hospital everything was good to go. Call the ins. if you have to call the nurse line for them and explain what is going on. You are Griffins voice try everyone you can think of to call. This is a big problem if it is effecting his breathing and my guess is it is ins. and not the doctors.

My son Kamryn is 14, we live in Oregon. Kam has Spastic C.P., he is in a wheelchair and pretty dependent on others for his care. I just wanted to tell you he watches you every single day. He has very limited speech so he can not articulate why he enjoys you so so much. 🥰🤷‍♀️💜 But , he really does. Regardless, I appreciate you, mother to mother.
I think he enjoys seeing your struggles and knowing there are others that struggle a little too. (And that's ok).

Poor Griffin.. It shame on them not doing anything and expect a small child wait for 6 months for them to do something about it. It shouldn't be that way at all. I would find a different Children Hospital if possible. When my son was 3 year old and his tonsils where large. And they didn't wait they schedule surgery and get him soonest they could. Why is this ENT doctor doing that. They must want money. It not worth do a swallow study on him when he not going to eat and wouldn't help with large tonsil either and could give them wrong results. Keep up the work and speak for your son. Don't let them do this.. Praying for Griffin and your family.

Your mom is also up there fighting for you and she has a whole bunch of angels on her team to watch over your family. P.S. smoosh the bananas totally - no more little pcs of anything for now, all liquid, make totally pureed smoothies, maybe the ENT or Griffin's regular doctor can recommend a protein powder to throw in a smoothie.

Gosh Emily, I’m so sorry you’re having to go through all of this, it’s nothing short of horrendous. I made a comment on your last video that I didn’t understand others comments on the situation as I was basing mine off of the video. I don’t have social media for personal reasons so I wasn’t aware of any of your recent struggles.. this is horrific that you’re having to go through this.
I know here in the U.K. I’ve had friends fight tooth & nail to have their little ones tonsils removed after never ending tonsillitis (strep throat to you guys I believe), apparently regardless of age they have to have had strep a ‘certain amount of times’ to even be considered for tonsillectomy, despite the constant discomfort of their little ones. How insane!!! The fact they’re letting Griffin suffer knowing full well he has no infection & this is the size of his tonsils, which are restricting his quality of life, it’s so distressing.. I can’t even imagine being a doctor & being ok in letting a child suffer like that. Horrific.
You don’t know what strength is until it’s all you have left.. right? You’re amazing hun. Sending you all so much love, blessings & prayers 💗 xx

I’m with you, Emily. Why would the doctors think that waiting for a swallow study (whether for days or weeks) is advisable when there is a visible obstruction to his throat that could be solved with an operation? How is that acceptable? I’m so sorry that you all are going through this.

I'm retired and an Aussie. I worked in Surgical, GP & Hospital Practices. Health Insurers are so difficult to deal with and will do anything to get out of paying for any type of procedure.
I would have to advocate for Patients frequently. The words I would use were, "why is this patient being denied a procedure, when I am paying for your services?" "If this child has a negative response, by your refusal, expect to be sued, and I will personally publicise this all over social media". I was always polite, but firm. I would ask to speak to their Manager, if they insisted on not listening to me. I would mention the word Fraud. I am so angry for you. And understand Australia's Health system is considered to be one of the in the world. This just stinks!!!! Be firm. Don't lose your temper. You've got this Mum & Dad.

I would buy Pedicure in the different flavors. My special needs nice was on that for 2 yrs for nutrition bc she wouldn't eat anything. Her doctor told me to give her that to sustain her.
I'm guessing here but maybe bc of the salivary injections he may not be producing enough saliva to wet some of the dryer foods he is choking on.
Also maybe the dryer foods have irritated his throat causing his tonsils to swell up. Or maybe a combination of that and he needs them out. I can't believe those idiots keep making you bring him back time and time again. Each of those visits cost the insurance company money. I don't get their reasoning of having to go through darn Protocols when clearly his tonsils are huge. I'm praying someone has the smarts to figure this out for poor Griffin and you and Will too. What a nightmare!
I had to refrigerate the Pedicure for my niece. Just an FYI. Best wishes and lots of prayers for you guys.

I don't think you son has cancer... I just wanted to say people get the run around all over the country ... my mom took my brother all the time to the DR etc and they kept saying when the swelling goes down they will take out his tonsils... what sense did that make ? my other brother had an issue with the tube that goes from your kidney's to your bladder and drs called my mom crazy and he almost died... 2 1/2 years of this ... :( ... You should move to the UK our healthcare is free and parents of children with struggles can go away for a holiday at a centre for respite where everythings taken care of for you. I worked in one and it was the most rewarding experience seeing these poor exhausted parents leaving after their holiday well rested and revived. Theres also the option of having your child there like a holiday camp with all services provided on site. It's so unfair to Griffin to not get the healthcare he deserves but hes very lucky to have a mama bear in his corner.

Its incredibly exhausting that it requires this amount of energy every time...keep sayingnit but my elderlynparents situations were exactly thebsame - every issue an effort, every doctor visit I had to keep on top of everything & everyone - it was NEVER plain sailing. And with dementias they couldnt advocate for themselves. Your doing great & perseverance wins. I was once told that because I stayed 'high profile' in my parents care I was listened to - you will be too. I'm praying for you Emily. Keep up the good work. I know it's exhausting. It sounds very much to me that behind the scenes it's the insurance that's not doing what it's supposed to. They request this test and that test first and to lay after delay. If you can, contact the nurse available on call with the insurance and explain things to her. Perhaps that can get things going. Doctors hands are frequently tied and they can't do anything. So please don't bad mouth the doctors. They do care. They are afraid of suits and all the rest of it. Our medical system is broken. You're a wonderful mom. 💕🙏🍀🙋

It was so scary when he’d sleep because he would pause when he was breathing and I’d have to shake him to get him to breathe. The specialist said he’s have to grow out of it. They wanted to keep his tonsils because it would be better when he got older They aren’t so quick to take them out now as they use to be for certain health benefits.
He is now 16 and has finally grown into not them , but it was a bit of a challenge.
Good luck and hope you will find the help your little guy deserves.

Emily. Start writing down names of the people that you are talking to. You have a significant law suit building. I wish I had done that! One PICU MD SPECIALIST DISAGREED WITH ME THAT MY SON WAS HAVING SEIZURES UNTIL THE 11th SEIZURE & MY SON CODED!!!

Unfortunately Insurance companies make it hard for Drs. To do direct testing and much needed surgeries. That makes it so unfair for the people who are suffering! So sorry y'all are going through this!

this really isn't true .. they just have to code things correctly... especially with Medicaid... things are so much easier most of the time ... it is hard to get them to do that though ..

I’m a little confused on how your health care works.
If you have to pay, and it’s not going to cause any harm, why won’t they do the surgery and have his tonsils out?

it is really weird what they will delay ... even in kids... I was running a high fever etc... had not eaten in weeks .. basically had a ruptured gall bladder (I know totally unheard of right???) .. this was after 7 years of gallbladder attacks they would also do nothing about... 3 days later I was back in the ER and got admitted ... I was in liver failure by then ... 2 days later surgery .. 3 hours open gallbladder surgery... another 3 days in hospital sent home.. still in liver failure (blocked bile ducts) readmitted ... another 6 days in ... My brother back in 1985 similar to what Emily is describing he had massively swollen tonsil for 3 years they said they could not take them out until the swelling went down ... started at age 11 (they never went down) age 14 he stops breathing at school. rushed to the hospital ... intubated .. after a week in the hospital they finally remove the tonsils... and in my brother's case it ended up being cancer all along... I don't trust dr at all ... you have to walk a thin line with them .. assertive but not crazy .. it is so hard ...

Everything is slow with insurance. I wanted to get a test done several years ago and my insurance wouldn't pay for it. There was no way to appeal it at all. So never had the test done. It would have given my doctors more info on my condition, but these insurance companies are so strict with paying out. I follow you on IG, so I know Griffin is doing a bit better now. I pray that you guys get answers.

there are all kinds of ways to appeal ... several levels in fact... this was actually one of the good things about Obamacare... of course it depends on what insurance you have ... there is usually 2 agency level appeals; and then a state and federal appeal for anything off a market place or business insurance... Medicaid you have 2 levels then court.. but if the dr have done their documentation you usually win ... yes it is a massive pain in the butt ... I actually avoid going to Doctors now over the hassle unless it is way important

@@lorettatheibert1663 Maybe in some circumstances, but with this test specifically I was told there was no way to appeal. When I spoke to the insurance then, this test was considered "experimental". I asked about appealing and he said with this test specifically there is no appeal process available. /shrug It's a very specialized test that at the time was only being done at the teaching hospital in the city. Edit: I posted a link, but it looks like UA-cam hid the comment. Any way it was a known issue with autonomic testing. Insurance companies don't cover it anymore.
