That’s the one good point in the scene, people often forget how the Starks got their ties to the magick of the old gods, the blood sacrifices of those they didn’t need or didn’t like. The nobility and chivalry only comes later, the age of heroes was mostly an angle of savagery, to my knowledge only House Dayne had a purely sin-free start.

Either way, it shows that magic ties don’t just pop up out of nowhere, the Valyrians weren’t the only one who paid a price for their magic. The only ones to my knowledge who practiced a “purer” form of magic would probably be the Rhoynar, but given what happened with Garen I guess it didn’t stay that way.
As much as I hate this scene, it reinforced the theory that Bronn is a descendant of House Reyne. The theory goes that once the Lannisters took over, the remaining Reynes fled to Essos. Since they didn’t have land, they gave up their name. Eventually, an up-jumped sellsword (who happens to know the Lannister’s song) makes his way to Westeros to seek his fortune.
Or the lands lordships and castles would pass on to some random when the original family was annihilated like house gardener getting destroyed and high garden passing to the tyrells

In this scene, I thought Bronn has gone mad but he actually has a point. People are only Kings because there are people like Bronn who did the dirty work for them only for the Kings to be put on the throne while the people who did it for them don't get any reward.
Feudal kings, are very high regarded dukes and lords, that are recognised by other lords as their primus inter pares. The King of England was never just some random lord, he was always from a long line of rulers for one. Even supposed nomadic "barbarians" from the east, Huns, and Mongols, have very old family lines of dynastical rule that gives them justification for their titles. Chingiz Khan wasn't the Great Khan of mongols just by his merit, he was son of the Yesugei, who was most probably descending from the Golden Family blood that was chief among the steppes since Hunnic khaghans. Bronn however, is just some murderer, no family, no marrige pact, no support. Tyrion can't give him Highgarden even if he wants to

King Wladyslaw III of Poland fought in the Crusade of Varna and died during the battle of Varna. King Magnus Barefoot of Norway led two campaigns in Ireland, fighting in battles. Alexander the Great, now this one is harder to know for sure, due to how extremely long ago he lived, but it is said that he almost always fought on the front lines and was even dangerously injured in multiple battles.
No it's a pretty bad point because this all relies on Tyrion being a wimp and also needlessly reveals his betrayal of cersei to Jaime. Now he has to hide in the woods until Tyrion wins and then try to get in touch with Tyrion before one of thousands of guards ever spot him.

Since the show skips on major part of Bronn's story line people who just watch the show don't know how important Stokeworth land is. It's one of the two biggest suppliers of food for King's Landing and since Lollys isn't in fit state to rule over the land it leaves Bronn acting as Lord of Stokeworth. Now the next part is just from the books and since the show went different way we can't say for sure if it happened there as well (behind the scenes) or not, but at the end of Feast of Crows, Bronn and his wife have legitimate claim to acquire Rosby which is the second of the two biggest suppliers of food for King's Landing. If Bronn takes control of Rosby in Winds of Winter, he will have majority of said supply at his disposal. That would make him probably the most important smaller lord in Westeros.

I rewatched the whole series recently. Seasons 1-4 were a magnificent fantasy epic. Seasons 5-6 were above average. Seasons 7-8 were just regular-ass TV, and this scene is a good example of why.

I love the look on Bronn's face when Tyrion says "Highgarden". Jerome Flynn nailed it - that look of he did not think Tyrion could come up with a real answer AND he just got offered the richest, most fertile land in Westeros. A detail a lot of viewers don't consider here is that Bronn has seen both castles and the land they are on. He was present in laying siege to both of them and he told Jamie he wanted Highgarden. It's not like Bronn is accepting the offer on Highgarden's reputation - he's taken both castles for a test drive and he wants the better one.
It's one of the most bs scenes in GoT. Literally every character acted like we havent seen them ever before. Tyrion master of logic and negotiations just shouts with offer him 1/4 of kingdom. The rest has no sense either
Bronn gets offered Riverrun, a wet, miserable place that mainly sells fish. And to beat that offer, Tyrion offers one of the most sought-after and fertile lands in the Seven Kingdoms. It's ridiculous negotiating and makes Tyrion look like a fool.
Lol Bronn becoming lord of the reach probably created a huge civil war in the reach. The powerful reach houses like The Hightowers, Redwyne and Tarly would never swear fealty to a commoner.
One subtle, telling and realistic thing about this scene that I noticed and appreciated is that while Bronn is clearly in control, he seems out of breath and not wasting any time in this conversation. It gives the impression that he fought and likely killed to get to this room, and expects to do so again on his way out. A very nice touch, and excellently performed.

Even if Bronn is crazy and willing to believe the word of two people held at weaponpoint for something they do not even have the power to give if they win - That would be Danny and are they just going to ignore the possibility she will give Highgarden to someone more trustworthy and who actually fought for her I.E She gives it to Sam. Bronn is going to wait for Danny to win, find out Tyrion cannot deliver... and then what ? Kill the hand of the Queen who has just defeated Cersi who will be in no position to reward Bron with Riverrun or anything else.
It's an easy sell to Dany. The Dothraki won't want it. The Unsullied have no experience running a profitable farmland. All the houses of Westeros are in ruin. She'll never trust a house that served Lannisters with the most important asset in Westeros. Dorne is not only dubious, but her biggest threat - they have dragon killing weapons. Other than her right hands, she has no one to hand them to. Bronn on the other hand is more than capable of surviving, he's better than Jamie on the field, he's ruthless enough and most importantly... not soft. Anyone running high garden needs to be able to live lavishly but not go insane with power. Bronn's perfect. Loyal to the coin, but frugal as can be. You need a ruthless man to tend the fields who can kill, but also appreciate the finery... and Daenerys can't rule everywhere. Jaime and Tyrion will claim their useless ancestral land, or Harrenhall, and hang back... if they survive. There's a lot of if's, why not one more? Meanwhile they still have to contend with the Iron Bank. They'll want High garden, making Bronn ideal to defend it. More than anything though keeping Bronn happy is key. Tyrion knows how capable he is, you need him. You never want him as a free agent, it's a total waste and a huge liability. Dany is no fool, there's no one who can take High garden and not be corrupted, except the world's biggest snake. You can trust him to be the serpent in the garden, instead of the dragon ruining it... and he tows the line. Dany's lost every person she trusts, anyone else she trusts needs to be near her. And the good thing about being an absolute dictator, or fascist, is that nobody will really own anything. Bronn will be a vassal or an appointed governor, nothing more. She shares power with no one. But Bronn is fine with loyalty, there's no point pretending you own something when a queen with dragons *exists*. He's ambitious, but not that ambitious. Those dragons guarantee he can retire in a land terrified of dragons instead of him. It's an excellent win... as long as he survives what's coming. Which is a dubious prospect at best and they all know it. When it comes to high garden it will come down to someone capable, not trustworthy. Dany doesn't trust anyone at all, not even her closest advisors. She trusts her dragons. Bronn is a good a choice as any, and Tyrion's emphatic recommendation will be exquisite and laced with truths she'll want to hear. She loves unbelievable bastards. They often turn out to be so much more ... for better or for worse.
I mean, this is even based on the idea that Bronn COULD get anyone killed. What was he going to do? Batman his way into King's Landing, the Royal Palace, all of the royal guard and then hopefully find Tyrion or Jaime and kill them? Or would he raise his army of 200 peasants and start a war? Very true, Starks like to say they took control of the North bc the North needed a strong house to lead them through the cold winters and harsh environment and all other things but in reality they did just want to be the Kings and not answer to anyone, and there is nothing wrong with that, but basically I’m just saying Bronn is totally right.

Bronn should have known that he was already given a castle before being shipped to Dorne, therefore he was already rewarded for service.
He was rewarded for his service but then Jaime came and dragged him away from it. Plus, bronn legit saved Jaime’s life during the battle of the gold road.

Bronn is 100% right about how noble houses are created, even if you look at our history, the noble houses of middle-age europe were created mostly because some dude served a king in one or two important battles, and was awarded some land and a city/castle because of it.
Noble houses are built by traditional houses that go back thousands of years if you really seek deep. Highgarden is a seat of kings! Not some mere castle, no fucking sellsword can jump from nothing, to ownership of a kingdom's capital just like that!

It's hard to spot the problem with scenes like these because they have 3 amazing actors squeezing milk out of stone. But I like to recall a scene between Arya and the Hound. Arya is practicing her fencing, Hound sees her, makes fun of her, of her lessons, of her teacher, let's the girl stab him, tanks it with his armor and proclaims "the best swordsman is a big guy, in a big armor with a big f- sword". That's the spirit of ASOIAF. Despite the magic, the fantasy, there is a tangible sense of gritty realism. Bronn is not Batman, he is a sellsword, he gets paid to kill people way less experienced than himself. What happens if Jaime and Tyrion dies there? Dragons burn down Bronn's castle with Bronn inside. Armies knock on his door and a his leftovers will be dog food. The whole negotiation makes no sense, hell Tyrion and Jaime could just say yes to whatever and never care to follow through. Again, what the hell is Bronn gonna do? He is a lowborn, he has no armies, no ancient pacts, to favors to call upon, no debts to collect. His position as lord is entirely dependent on the favor and good will of whoever sits on the Iron Throne. Hell, it irks me even more THAT HE RELOADS THAT CROSSBOW WITH ONE HAND. Look, if you can reload a crossbow like that as if you were cycling a rifle's bolt, you wouldn't need a crossbow to begin with. A seasoned archer would need to dig their crossbow into the dirt, hold it down with one foot, and pull the string with their whole body in order to cock it. This is also why anyone using a crossbow would also carry this neat little device called A LEVER to be able to cock it more than twice before muscle failure got you out of the fight. Don't get me wrong, a cocked crossbow with a bolt is one hell of a threat, but the moment he fired that warning shot he was out of his main weapon, and in perfect position to get shanked by Jaime and Tyrion. Oh, and this isn't an issue with ASOIAF or even GoT in general. There is a scene where Joffrey uses a crossbow, and he uses a lever to cock it. That's just post-book quality at play.

Rewatched season 8 and while I loved it the first time, rewatching it after rewatching seasons 1-6 for 3 times so you get everything better really puts a sour taste in your mouth. I don't understand why Tyrion just allows Bron to become Lord of Highgarden and Master of Coin at the end of the show, after having literally attacked and threatened him. He is a mercenary. His only loyalty is coin. He was useful for Tyrion in the beginning, but now he's a loose cannon. Crowning random mercenaries who threaten you as Lord of great houses and given high ranks in the small council is no way to run a kingdom. Tyrion should've had him killed. This scene wasn't played for laughs - Bron really was threatening Jaime and Tyrion.
Well, these are the same writers that wrote the whole scene revolving around a crossbow, while not knowing how crossbows work. If we assume Bronn could cock that thing with one arm, he could wrestle those dragons bare handed.
This was such a stupid scene, and felt almost like a mini character assassination for Bronn. He started out like this, but developed a ton when travelling with Tyrion and Jamie, and became good comrades with them, more than just a sellsword as depicted here, yet, it's like the writers forgot about all of that. In fact, it's like the writers forgot about just about every damn minute of character development during the final season, and made a ton of stupid outcomes for beloved characters.
Lmfao Bronn was always a sellsword, loyal only to who paid him best. Don't confuse people having great chemistry together for friendship. He left Tyrion to his fate when it came to the trial of combat with The Mountain and did not even bother trying to find another way to help him. You have to remember, even Tyrion, considered the lowest of the lannisters and more than likely being given the least of them, was still the son of Tywin, Tyrion had riches beyond what most men would ever have in 10 lifetimes. So he could always afford to pay Bronn off even if someone else tried hiring him. Bronn literally said "enhances it really" once... That is what it means, the "chemistry" is a bonus, but his main motivator was always money and if Tyrion does not pay up, anyone is free to hire him to kill Tyrion. Earlier seasons which did have the books as source materials make it very clear that the "friendship" came second for Bronn, the money (and status) always comes first. In this scene, the dynamic is different. Tyrion has access to fuck all. So he has to appeal to his real motivation, which was always gold. It was so back when they met and it is so in this scene too. This is one of the few scenes they actually got right post-book source material without botching a character, but you dumbass reddit morons choke on so much dick from your faggotry that you are incapable of understanding anything that is not fluffy rainbows.
I wouldn't say it's beyond Bronn to do that, he did abandon Tyrion before. However it is completely out of character for him to threaten the winning team and then expect them to follow through on empty promises AFTER they have dealt with all their issues.
Stupid season 8-style negotiation. Bronn admits that Cersei's promise will not be fulfilled. So, what is the reason to promise him Highgarden? And since when does the Hand's promise to give Highgarden bound Dany? How can Tyrion persuade his Queen to give the Highgarden to a cutthroat?
Timing is everything. Bronn should have followed Jamie to Winterfell secretly and this scene should have happened prior to the battle of winterfell. Bronn could then argue about what he is due, yada yada yada. At the battle of Winterfell, Bronn should have died saving Tyrion in the crypt, realising Tyrion has to live to fulfil his promise of Highgarden.. It would have given Bronn a full circle ending - he originally fought to save Tyrion at the Vale when he didn't have to, gained his trust, worked his way up and lost everything right at the end. Yes people would have been mad a fan favourite died, but it also gives Tyrion someone he has lost, when Dany is realising shes lost a lot of good allies. At the end, Lollys could be revealed to have had a baby boy, and Tyrion could THEN give Bronn of the Blackwaters heir Highgarden. It would have been a nice nod to a Lanister always paying their debts.
Bronn never would’ve fought at the battle of winterfell. That goes against his entire ideology. He fought for Tyrion because Tyrion is a Lannister, and he wanted to gain favor with him. Plus, that was a fight he could win. He refused to fight the mountain on Tyrion’s behalf, because the chances of him dying were way too high. He likes Tyrion, but he’s not willing to die for him. Bronn staying and fight in at winterfell makes ZERO sense. Tyrion doesn’t really owe him anything at this point, but Jaime does, since bronn saved Jaime’s life.
Never thought Bronn would do that. I wonder if Tyrion’s nose punch and crossbow arrow sealed the deal for him or he just dug his grave with that stunt.
I think this scene could’ve been done in a similar fashion, but better. Bronn has more or less become friends with Jamie and Tyrion at this point, but they had given him many promises that had not been kept. It could’ve been done a bit different where Bronn has a frank conversation with his past friends about all the things he’s done for them, what they promised him, and what he currently has - and how Cersei is currently promising him a castle and has already given him a large sum of gold. Bronn even said to Tyrion when he was captive for the murder of Joffrey “aye, and when have you ever put your life on the line for me?” Plus Bronn put his life on the line to help Jamie get Marcella back. That being said, him being Master of Coin at the end is just stupid - no saving that one.
What's interesting is that based on Bronn's interactions with Tyrion and Jamie throughout the show, I feel like he never intended to make a deal to fight for Cersei, dragons or no. He always wanted to fight with Tyrion and Jaime, but knew to get paid properly, he was going to have to come heavy and strong arm them. It was always going to be them, but he wanted to make sure he could retire after this one.
Even the Starks gained rule over the north by conquering the other houses. The entire reason house Blackwood is in the riverlands is because house stark drove them out of the wolfswood.
I think he was alluding to jaime not being able to stop him from killing him with that crossbow. Which jaime didn't have a weapon pulled out and he was in front of bronn, if he was behind bronn, he would have had a shot at a sneak attack.

I wouldn't want to see Jaime test stepping towards Bronn. That'd be ugly. If the true measure is anything, Tyrion made sure Jaime trained with Bronn... he knew Bronn had something to teach more than just left handed combat. He wanted Bronn to put him in the dirt hard. Even on Jaime's best day he's cocky, and Bronn is a raging psychopath. I'd put Bronn up against Dayne and Selmy. Selmy might be ready for that ruthlessness, but Dayne wasn't ready for treachery. We can't scale Bronn to tournaments, he never really did that, but he knows what they can do. They don't know what he can do. And they're all dead and he isn't. Including the Mountain. ... Bronn's serious business. Discretion is the better part of valor.
I was not happy with the way they wrote Bronn here. At this point with all they'd been through I would think the bromance would reign supreme - Bronn would not point a cross bow at his homies. Character arc is he goes from sell sword to loyal wingman for both Jamie and Tyrion. Seriously, I wanna make a funny Jamie and Bronn highlight video set to Magnum PI music...
It is highly doubtful that Daenerys would have given Bronn Highgarden. Even Cersei was most likely not giving him Highgarden. Especially if Bronn doesn't even fight for it on the battlefield. Even with the madness of Daenerys' fucking writers, that would not have happened. Most likely.
This really annoyed me cause for one, he can make it clear that she made an offer and they needed to pay their debts. Two, as if they would need to pay him. Just sick arya or something.

No, he didn’t betray him. Tyrion fled King’s Landing after he killed Tywin. While Tyrion was in Essos, he worked his way into Dany’s court, but Bronn stayed with the Lannisters. Cersei/Jamie made him generous offers to help them in their endeavors, so he stayed around working with them, but he laid low, and he was never really loyal to either side. He’s also made it very clear that Bronn is about money, not loyalty or morals. Now that he’s seen Dany and her dragons, he’s fairly sure she’s the team to bet on- that’s why he didn’t kill Jamie or Tyrion right here. Bc if Dany wins and the brothers are dead, Dany sure as hell won’t pay him anything. And if Cersei wins, she promised him Riverrun, which is still pretty darn good, all things considering.
Curiously, Bronn's dialogue, as it was written, wasn't that bad. The actual scene and its believability was awful and all over the place, but Bronn's dialogue itself was ok. They really expect us to believe that all other noble houses in Westeros would tolerate a cutthroat sellsword being suddenly elevated to the position of Lord Paramount of the Reach, without even a knighthood as previous precedent or experience ruling or any noble lineage to speak of... no reason for any of them to be loyal... sounds like a recipe for disaster. The Tyrells got away with it because they had the backing of the Targaryens and their dragons AND they, despite being a very minor house, had been stewards of High Garden for some time before, so eventually it was a pill they could swallow, but I don't see it ever happening with Bronn
For all the faults of season 8, ending Bronn's story by just having him say "fuck all of you, give me a castle right now and stop stringing me alone" was perfect for him

Hated this scene. It completely betrayed the previous arc of his relationship with the two of them. His usual cocky nature was replaced here by Bronn the asshole. It would have been more fitting if Arya had showed up behind him and cut the bowstring, then held him with her dagger at his knife while the other two decided whether they should kill him or not.
Bronn can sneak up on 2 of the most important people with no guards and with a big fucking cross bow. Why didn’t he go sneak up on dany and end the war? The ridiculousness of the writing is beyond comprehension
I found this whole scene rather... demeaning for the character of Bronn. After witnessing his rise (it's not really growth because as a character he remains pretty much the same) season by season it felt kinda cheap to see him physically assault, threaten and extort the two characters he was closest to.
The fact that anyone sees this scene as being in any way coherent or fit into anyone’s character arc or the narrative as a whole is exactly why we continue to get garbage media. Even viewing this for the first time it felt like a teenager wrote fanfiction for the show. Nonsensical and extremely jarring; not to mention disturbing and frankly demoralizing that so many people eat this up and say “yeah this is good TV”
This unironcaly is the one scene that shows that d and d absolutely knew what they were doing. This conversation actually feels like some old season dialogue and shows that most of the other garbage from season 8 was purposely rushed and screwed up.
- Dude reloading a crossbow with the power of his mind, because not even The Mountain should be able to cock it with one hand let alone that fast; - Bronn has NO leverage whatsoever here, he only stands to lose, but somehow the show is pretending he has the better hand; - Bronn, the no BS guy, threatens two very smart men close to the queen with dragons and loyal armies, and without nothing to hold them accountable, expects Tyrion and Jaime to follow through on his EXTORTION after the war is over, you know, when they would be untouchable and would have no reason at all to keep their promises and would have all the reason in the world to have the traitor hanged and his lot given to a more loyal family.
This scene = masterfully done, that Jamie and Tyrion, the respective pride and joy & fucking annoyance of Tywin, got held at bow-point by a sellsword they forgot to pay their debt to, the very same weapon that killed Tywin, and practically told them off on the same stuff that Tywin obsessed over, is just terrific. Probably the last great writing in the show
Man this was totally unecessary and doesnt make sense. Bron in the grea council after the war and the Lord of High Garden.? What a joke. lol. Last two seasons this series turned into class C type series.
This one scene ruined Bronn. I mean he was one of the best fighters on the show and he was SIDELINED for all of the battles of the last season. His entire character arc was supposed to lead to him finally making a selfless choice- he would often make noble gestures, but they’d be masked by him asking for payment after the fact.
The noble houses of the reach would never accept Bronn, they barely accepted the Tyrell’s and they had Gardner blood. Bronn won’t have an army or any bannermen, and he’ll face all the reach families. There’s zero chance he keeps Highgarden. Not to mention the many Tyrell’s who won’t accept the loss.
Bronn is right about how prominent houses were founded by cutthroats I mean Lann the Clever conned House Casterly out of their ancestral home!
That’s the one good point in the scene, people often forget how the Starks got their ties to the magick of the old gods, the blood sacrifices of those they didn’t need or didn’t like. The nobility and chivalry only comes later, the age of heroes was mostly an angle of savagery, to my knowledge only House Dayne had a purely sin-free start.

Either way, it shows that magic ties don’t just pop up out of nowhere, the Valyrians weren’t the only one who paid a price for their magic. The only ones to my knowledge who practiced a “purer” form of magic would probably be the Rhoynar, but given what happened with Garen I guess it didn’t stay that way.
As much as I hate this scene, it reinforced the theory that Bronn is a descendant of House Reyne.
The theory goes that once the Lannisters took over, the remaining Reynes fled to Essos. Since they didn’t have land, they gave up their name. Eventually, an up-jumped sellsword (who happens to know the Lannister’s song) makes his way to Westeros to seek his fortune.
Or the lands lordships and castles would pass on to some random when the original family was annihilated like house gardener getting destroyed and high garden passing to the tyrells

In this scene, I thought Bronn has gone mad but he actually has a point. People are only Kings because there are people like Bronn who did the dirty work for them only for the Kings to be put on the throne while the people who did it for them don't get any reward.
Feudal kings, are very high regarded dukes and lords, that are recognised by other lords as their primus inter pares.
The King of England was never just some random lord, he was always from a long line of rulers for one.
Even supposed nomadic "barbarians" from the east, Huns, and Mongols, have very old family lines of dynastical rule that gives them justification for their titles. Chingiz Khan wasn't the Great Khan of mongols just by his merit, he was son of the Yesugei, who was most probably descending from the Golden Family blood that was chief among the steppes since Hunnic khaghans.
Bronn however, is just some murderer, no family, no marrige pact, no support.

No it's a pretty bad point because this all relies on Tyrion being a wimp and also needlessly reveals his betrayal of cersei to Jaime. Now he has to hide in the woods until Tyrion wins and then try to get in touch with Tyrion before one of thousands of guards ever spot him.

Since the show skips on major part of Bronn's story line people who just watch the show don't know how important Stokeworth land is. It's one of the two biggest suppliers of food for King's Landing and since Lollys isn't in fit state to rule over the land it leaves Bronn acting as Lord of Stokeworth.
Now the next part is just from the books and since the show went different way we can't say for sure if it happened there as well (behind the scenes) or not, but at the end of Feast of Crows, Bronn and his wife have legitimate claim to acquire Rosby which is the second of the two biggest suppliers of food for King's Landing. If Bronn takes control of Rosby in Winds of Winter, he will have majority of said supply at his disposal. That would make him probably the most important smaller lord in Westeros.

I rewatched the whole series recently. Seasons 1-4 were a magnificent fantasy epic. Seasons 5-6 were above average. Seasons 7-8 were just regular-ass TV, and this scene is a good example of why.

I love the look on Bronn's face when Tyrion says "Highgarden". Jerome Flynn nailed it - that look of he did not think Tyrion could come up with a real answer AND he just got offered the richest, most fertile land in Westeros.
A detail a lot of viewers don't consider here is that Bronn has seen both castles and the land they are on. He was present in laying siege to both of them and he told Jamie he wanted Highgarden. It's not like Bronn is accepting the offer on Highgarden's reputation - he's taken both castles for a test drive and he wants the better one.
It's one of the most bs scenes in GoT. Literally every character acted like we havent seen them ever before. Tyrion master of logic and negotiations just shouts with offer him 1/4 of kingdom. The rest has no sense either
Bronn gets offered Riverrun, a wet, miserable place that mainly sells fish. And to beat that offer, Tyrion offers one of the most sought-after and fertile lands in the Seven Kingdoms. It's ridiculous negotiating and makes Tyrion look like a fool.
Lol Bronn becoming lord of the reach probably created a huge civil war in the reach. The powerful reach houses like The Hightowers, Redwyne and Tarly would never swear fealty to a commoner.

One subtle, telling and realistic thing about this scene that I noticed and appreciated is that while Bronn is clearly in control, he seems out of breath and not wasting any time in this conversation. It gives the impression that he fought and likely killed to get to this room, and expects to do so again on his way out. A very nice touch, and excellently performed.

Bronn's perfect. Loyal to the coin, but frugal as can be. You need a ruthless man to tend the fields who can kill, but also appreciate the finery... and Daenerys can't rule everywhere. Jaime and Tyrion will claim their useless ancestral land, or Harrenhall, and hang back... if they survive.
There's a lot of if's, why not one more?
Meanwhile they still have to contend with the Iron Bank. They'll want High garden, making Bronn ideal to defend it. More than anything though keeping Bronn happy is key. Tyrion knows how capable he is, you need him. You never want him as a free agent, it's a total waste and a huge liability.
Dany is no fool, there's no one who can take High garden and not be corrupted, except the world's biggest snake. You can trust him to be the serpent in the garden, instead of the dragon ruining it... and he tows the line.
Dany's lost every person she trusts, anyone else she trusts needs to be near her.
And the good thing about being an absolute dictator, or fascist, is that nobody will really own anything. Bronn will be a vassal or an appointed governor, nothing more.
She shares power with no one.
But Bronn is fine with loyalty, there's no point pretending you own something when a queen with dragons *exists*.
He's ambitious, but not that ambitious. Those dragons guarantee he can retire in a land terrified of dragons instead of him. It's an excellent win... as long as he survives what's coming.

When it comes to high garden it will come down to someone capable, not trustworthy. Dany doesn't trust anyone at all, not even her closest advisors. She trusts her dragons.
Bronn is a good a choice as any, and Tyrion's emphatic recommendation will be exquisite and laced with truths she'll want to hear.

I mean, this is even based on the idea that Bronn COULD get anyone killed. What was he going to do? Batman his way into King's Landing, the Royal Palace, all of the royal guard and then hopefully find Tyrion or Jaime and kill them? Or would he raise his army of 200 peasants and start a war?

It's hard to spot the problem with scenes like these because they have 3 amazing actors squeezing milk out of stone. But I like to recall a scene between Arya and the Hound. Arya is practicing her fencing, Hound sees her, makes fun of her, of her lessons, of her teacher, let's the girl stab him, tanks it with his armor and proclaims "the best swordsman is a big guy, in a big armor with a big f- sword". That's the spirit of ASOIAF. Despite the magic, the fantasy, there is a tangible sense of gritty realism. Bronn is not Batman, he is a sellsword, he gets paid to kill people way less experienced than himself. What happens if Jaime and Tyrion dies there? Dragons burn down Bronn's castle with Bronn inside. Armies knock on his door and a his leftovers will be dog food. The whole negotiation makes no sense, hell Tyrion and Jaime could just say yes to whatever and never care to follow through. Again, what the hell is Bronn gonna do? He is a lowborn, he has no armies, no ancient pacts, to favors to call upon, no debts to collect. His position as lord is entirely dependent on the favor and good will of whoever sits on the Iron Throne.
Hell, it irks me even more THAT HE RELOADS THAT CROSSBOW WITH ONE HAND. Look, if you can reload a crossbow like that as if you were cycling a rifle's bolt, you wouldn't need a crossbow to begin with. A seasoned archer would need to dig their crossbow into the dirt, hold it down with one foot, and pull the string with their whole body in order to cock it. This is also why anyone using a crossbow would also carry this neat little device called A LEVER to be able to cock it more than twice before muscle failure got you out of the fight. Don't get me wrong, a cocked crossbow with a bolt is one hell of a threat, but the moment he fired that warning shot he was out of his main weapon, and in perfect position to get shanked by Jaime and Tyrion.
Oh, and this isn't an issue with ASOIAF or even GoT in general. There is a scene where Joffrey uses a crossbow, and he uses a lever to cock it. That's just post-book quality at play.
Love the scene when Bronn shot the crossbow how it shows how shocked Jaime and Tyrion was and after Jaimes still talked bs to Bronn the disbelief on Tyrion's face like "could you please shut up, you trying to get us killed?".

Jaime or Arya totally should have killed Cersei. Fuck how they ended Cersei and Jaime. Rewatched season 8 and while I loved it the first time, rewatching it after rewatching seasons 1-6 for 3 times so you get everything better really puts a sour taste in your mouth. I don't think it's as bad as people say still, but god did they fuck some characters up.
I don't understand why Tyrion just allows Bron to become Lord of Highgarden and Master of Coin at the end of the show, after having literally attacked and threatened him. He is a mercenary. His only loyalty is coin. He was useful for Tyrion in the beginning, but now he's a loose cannon. Crowning random mercenaries who threaten you as Lord of great houses and given high ranks in the small council is no way to run a kingdom. Tyrion should've had him killed. This scene wasn't played for laughs - Bron really was threatening Jaime and Tyrion.
Well, these are the same writers that wrote the whole scene revolving around a crossbow, while not knowing how crossbows work. If we assume Bronn could cock that thing with one arm, he could wrestle those dragons bare handed.

This was such a stupid scene, and felt almost like a mini character assassination for Bronn. He started out like this, but developed a ton when travelling with Tyrion and Jamie, and became good comrades with them, more than just a sellsword as depicted here, yet, it's like the writers forgot about all of that. In fact, it's like the writers forgot about just about every damn minute of character development during the final season, and made a ton of stupid outcomes for beloved characters.
Lmfao Bronn was always a sellsword, loyal only to who paid him best. Don't confuse people having great chemistry together for friendship. He left Tyrion to his fate when it came to the trial of combat with The Mountain and did not even bother trying to find another way to help him.
You have to remember, even Tyrion, considered the lowest of the lannisters and more than likely being given the least of them, was still the son of Tywin, Tyrion had riches beyond what most men would ever have in 10 lifetimes. So he could always afford to pay Bronn off even if someone else tried hiring him.
Bronn literally said "enhances it really" once...
That is what it means, the "chemistry" is a bonus, but his main motivator was always money and if Tyrion does not pay up, anyone is free to hire him to kill Tyrion. Earlier seasons which did have the books as source materials make it very clear that the "friendship" came second for Bronn, the money (and status) always comes first.
In this scene, the dynamic is different. Tyrion has access to fuck all.
So he has to appeal to his real motivation, which was always gold. It was so back when they met and it is so in this scene too.
This is one of the few scenes they actually got right post-book source material without botching a character, but you dumbass reddit morons choke on so much dick from your faggotry that you are incapable of understanding anything that is not fluffy rainbows.
I wouldn't say it's beyond Bronn to do that, he did abandon Tyrion before. However it is completely out of character for him to threaten the winning team and then expect them to follow through on empty promises AFTER they have dealt with all their issues.

Stupid season 8-style negotiation. Bronn admits that Cersei's promise will not be fulfilled. So, what is the reason to promise him Highgarden? And since when does the Hand's promise to give Highgarden bound Dany? How can Tyrion persuade his Queen to give the Highgarden to a cutthroat?
Timing is everything.
Bronn should have followed Jamie to Winterfell secretly and this scene should have happened prior to the battle of winterfell.
Bronn could then argue about what he is due, yada yada yada.
At the battle of Winterfell, Bronn should have died saving Tyrion in the crypt, realising Tyrion has to live to fulfil his promise of Highgarden..
It would have given Bronn a full circle ending - he originally fought to save Tyrion at the Vale when he didn't have to, gained his trust, worked his way up and lost everything right at the end. Yes people would have been mad a fan favourite died, but it also gives Tyrion someone he has lost, when Dany is realising shes lost a lot of good allies.
At the end, Lollys could be revealed to have had a baby boy, and Tyrion could THEN give Bronn of the Blackwaters heir Highgarden. It would have been a nice nod to a Lanister always paying their debts.
Bronn never would’ve fought at the battle of winterfell. That goes against his entire ideology.
He fought for Tyrion because Tyrion is a Lannister, and he wanted to gain favor with him. Plus, that was a fight he could win.
He refused to fight the mountain on Tyrion’s behalf, because the chances of him dying were way too high. He likes Tyrion, but he’s not willing to die for him.
Bronn staying and fight in at winterfell makes ZERO sense. Tyrion doesn’t really owe him anything at this point, but Jaime does, since bronn saved Jaime’s life.

I think this scene could’ve been done in a similar fashion, but better. Bronn has more or less become friends with Jamie and Tyrion at this point, but they had given him many promises that had not been kept. It could’ve been done a bit different where Bronn has a frank conversation with his past friends about all the things he’s done for them, what they promised him, and what he currently has - and how Cersei is currently promising him a castle and has already given him a large sum of gold.
Bronn even said to Tyrion when he was captive for the murder of Joffrey “aye, and when have you ever put your life on the line for me?” Plus Bronn put his life on the line to help Jamie get Marcella back. That being said, him being Master of Coin at the end is just stupid - no saving that one.
What's interesting is that based on Bronn's interactions with Tyrion and Jamie throughout the show, I feel like he never intended to make a deal to fight for Cersei, dragons or no. He always wanted to fight with Tyrion and Jaime, but knew to get paid properly, he was going to have to come heavy and strong arm them. It was always going to be them, but he wanted to make sure he could retire after this one.

I think he was alluding to jaime not being able to stop him from killing him with that crossbow. Which jaime didn't have a weapon pulled out and he was in front of bronn, if he was behind bronn, he would have had a shot at a sneak attack.

... and judging how soundly Bronn has won most conflicts, Jaime should be scared. We can't scale Bronn, but he was considering fighting the Mountain. Jaime's brave, but he's not that brave.
Even in a straight up fight, Bronn grew up killing. No feather beds and special trainers. He just did it. No tournament tactics, no need for it. Jaime's too 4 in Westeros as a duellist, but Bronn never really did duels.

It is highly doubtful that Daenerys would have given Bronn Highgarden. Even Cersei was most likely not giving him Highgarden. Especially if Bronn doesn't even fight for it on the battlefield. Even with the madness of Daenerys' fucking writers, that would not have happened. Most likely.

No, he didn’t betray him. Tyrion fled King’s Landing after he killed Tywin. While Tyrion was in Essos, he worked his way into Dany’s court, but Bronn stayed with the Lannisters. Cersei/Jamie made him generous offers to help them in their endeavors, so he stayed around working with them, but he laid low, and he was never really loyal to either side. He’s also made it very clear that Bronn is about money, not loyalty or morals. Now that he’s seen Dany and her dragons, he’s fairly sure she’s the team to bet on- that’s why he didn’t kill Jamie or Tyrion right here. Bc if Dany wins and the brothers are dead, Dany sure as hell won’t pay him anything. And if Cersei wins, she promised him Riverrun, which is still pretty darn good, all things considering.
Curiously, Bronn's dialogue, as it was written, wasn't that bad. The actual scene and its believability was awful and all over the place, but Bronn's dialogue itself was ok.
They really expect us to believe that all other noble houses in Westeros would tolerate a cutthroat sellsword being suddenly elevated to the position of Lord Paramount of the Reach, without even a knighthood as previous precedent or experience ruling or any noble lineage to speak of... no reason for any of them to be loyal... sounds like a recipe for disaster. The Tyrells got away with it because they had the backing of the Targaryens and their dragons AND they, despite being a very minor house, had been stewards of High Garden for some time before, so eventually it was a pill they could swallow, but I don't see it ever happening with Bronn

Hated this scene. It completely betrayed the previous arc of his relationship with the two of them. His usual cocky nature was replaced here by Bronn the asshole. It would have been more fitting if Arya had showed up behind him and cut the bowstring, then held him with her dagger at his knife while the other two decided whether they should kill him or not.

I found this whole scene rather... demeaning for the character of Bronn. After witnessing his rise (it's not really growth because as a character he remains pretty much the same) season by season it felt kinda cheap to see him physically assault, threaten and extort the two characters he was closest to.
The fact that anyone sees this scene as being in any way coherent or fit into anyone’s character arc or the narrative as a whole is exactly why we continue to get garbage media. Even viewing this for the first time it felt like a teenager wrote fanfiction for the show. Nonsensical and extremely jarring; not to mention disturbing and frankly demoralizing that so many people eat this up and say “yeah this is good TV”

One of the stupidest moments in an incredibly stupid season.
This unironcaly is the one scene that shows that d and d absolutely knew what they were doing. This conversation actually feels like some old season dialogue and shows that most of the other garbage from season 8 was purposely rushed and screwed up.
- Dude reloading a crossbow with the power of his mind, because not even The Mountain should be able to cock it with one hand let alone that fast;
- Bronn has NO leverage whatsoever here, he only stands to lose, but somehow the show is pretending he has the better hand;
- Bronn, the no BS guy, threatens two very smart men close to the queen with dragons and loyal armies, and without nothing to hold them accountable, expects Tyrion and Jaime to follow through on his EXTORTION after the war is over, you know, when they would be untouchable and would have no reason at all to keep their promises and would have all the reason in the world to have the traitor hanged and his lot given to a more loyal family.

This scene = masterfully done, that Jamie and Tyrion, the respective pride and joy & fucking annoyance of Tywin, got held at bow-point by a sellsword they forgot to pay their debt to, the very same weapon that killed Tywin, and practically told them off on the same stuff that Tywin obsessed over, is just terrific. Probably the last great writing in the show

This one scene ruined Bronn. I mean he was one of the best fighters on the show and he was SIDELINED for all of the battles of the last season. His entire character arc was supposed to lead to him finally making a selfless choice- he would often make noble gestures, but they’d be masked by him asking for payment after the fact.
The noble houses of the reach would never accept Bronn, they barely accepted the Tyrell’s and they had Gardner blood. Bronn won’t have an army or any bannermen, and he’ll face all the reach families. There’s zero chance he keeps Highgarden. Not to mention the many Tyrell’s who won’t accept the loss.
