Just a thought....arsenic was used medicinally in very small amounts long ago, maybe it actually has health benefits if you're gradually introduced to ut!

Arsenic aside, carbohydrates are not even necessary for a dog's diet. They literally have no need for carbs at all, no matter how much kibble companies try to market their food as healthy. I still feed my dog rice from time to time and barley more often than rice. But if it's not one thing it's another. Barley has pesticides in it, rice has arsenic in it. I feed my dog actual food and very little kibble, and the kibble he does get is very high quality. Trying to feed him real meat and fish and a partially raw diet is expensive, so he gets a little rice and barley mixed in and that's what I can do. It's still better than feeding him kibble with peas, pea protein and lentils (that contributes to DCM which Dobermans are prone to). About rice specifically, I have read that brown rice has the higher levels of arsenic. Unfortunately, white rice has less nutrition. Like I said, if it's not one thing it's another. We just gotta do the best we can do with what we've got.

It saddens me that so mnay of us have purchased "high quality" dog food that hurt our dogs. One of my beloved had neurological issues before he passed, & as soon as I heard about arsenic in dog food with rice in it, I knew it must have been the lamb & rice recipe he was fed for the time I had him. I'm looking into making my Ginger's food from scratch! Thanks very much for the available recipes!

Be careful and transitioning slowly, the cooked recipes sent my 8lb poodle into full blow IBS and elevated liver enzymes. Tooo many hearts in those recipes and lots and lots of spinach. Hearts are extremely dense in protein and high in fat. I had to switch out for gizzards, lower in fat and protein and liver. The one recipe calls for 4 oz of spinach which almost would be a whole container of raw spinach. I still feed homemade but went back to using kale and riced cauliflower, adding phylum and chia for fiber and doubling the sunflower and hemp used. No grains, it took about 3 days for his stool to be blood free and not runny. I am a fan of Dogs Naturally and use their products but those cooked recipes just didn’t work for my fur baby. Hope it works out better for you.

I knew about arsenic in rice - but I fed a lot of Orijen 6-fish :( didn't know about arsenic in fish. Does the arsenic in rice also apply to BROWN rice? I guess it does. I will check out your recipes - the only reason I don't do home cooked meals is because I fear that it will not be balanced.

Even if it's "unbalanced", which is what the food (and veterinarian) indistry want you to believe, it is still 1000% better than ALL commercial dog food! Truly they only need high-quality meat with a good amount of fat. It's that easy.

your dog wants to get down, go out, or get water. JUST LET HIM! He wants to get off the couch. His agitation is getting in the way of the information. And not a good look that you're forcing this dog to sit there when she/he OBVIOUSLY wants to get off the couch. How can we take you seriously (as an "authority" or "expert") when you don't even respect the basic needs of your dog? Good info, while I was able to listen but please, let your dog just be a dog, not a forced prop for your video. Naturally is a word to heed here. Let the dog be in the video if he wants to. That way the energy he gives is natural and aids in your presentation. As it is, it's a 9 on the wince factor. Redo it without forcing the dog to stay there and you'll get a better response.

Changing my dog to a raw diet was the best decision I have ever made. I carry guilt for ever giving her kibble. My roommate's dog has so many skin and gut issues and I have tried telling to get rid of the kibble and the rice she piles on top of the kibble but she's a know it all and won't do it. She makes a topper full of rice, corn, peas and blueberries which is not good at all.

I'll see if she can send me info to share.

I have a 5 year old lab/collie who is allergic to chicken, pork, duck, squash, rabbit etc so I understand your frustration.
I make my own food and suppliment from time with a high quality single ingredient kibble.
I have found kangaroo, venison and goat works well for my girl.
      If you can find it.
It's a little pricey and most of the time I have to special order through my local pet store.
I had to do alot of research to answer that question. What else is there that is healthy.
Just some options in case you are still looking for something else.

Why do you never give specific kibble recommendations or at least directions for what kibble ingredients to avoid and what kibble ingredients to look for?
"Just make your dog food" is not realistic for the vast majority of dog owners as many of them go paycheck to paycheck and in some cases even buy their dog food before themselves.
You always say that you need to feed grass fed, but in many countries grass fed meat isn't even available for humans. In my country meat is never labeled "grass fed".
Buying the right, quality ingredients and then additional supplements for home made dog food will add up to much more than if you're feeding even premium kibble.

Hmm...I've always realized how expensive it is to raise and feed dogs, and the culture ignores the REALITY of both animal AND human nutrition and preys on human feelings to sell mass products... "You can have a heartfelt healing relationship with your pet for only $ pennies a day" bla bla.
That said, in Hawaii I pay $5 lb for the best kibble and about same for grass fed beef from local ranchers... currently (going up). Dogs require more animal protein than we do.
If people can't afford it, they can settle for assisting at shelters... or get a smaller dog. Just my 2cents.

@@KraljHD it's subjective and not absolute but i like Orijen Tundra and Regional Red.... seems like quality sourced, natural, with some freeze dried. I believe no "meal", no poultry, a variety of organs and some fish.
Once my dog had bad itching and skin allergy and we went with Orijen 6 fish only to get away from beef and or poultry, and she cleared up.
If my dog has any allergies I look for a grain free limited ingredient one to keep it simple.
