we get our tripe from a small local Amish butcher/slaughter house, usually with minutes of the cow being slaughtered. along with getting the heart, Kidney, trachea and pancreas (which took us a few attempts in trying to describe to them what the pancreas is and where it might be located on the animal. Then we learned they know the pancreas as "sweet bread" and now they are more than happy to give us the pancreas/sweet bread also
I used to bake and sell dog treats and at the time was looking into obtaining raw tripe to freeze dry and sell. It was very difficult to find a farmer nearby, so I abandoned the idea. Now that we moved to a more rural/country area, I may revisit!! We used to feed Tripett brand, but it is canned.
@@Ma-xt5fz Hi Ma! We use it still. I am sure raw from the cow is always best, and canned is probably 2nd best. The Trippett brand is minimally processed from my experience, and because of that, it smells horrible!! haha But our dog loves it!!
What is either Better and /different about beef tripe vs lamb tripe? FYI: my dog has lymphoma, and we are feed Raw and other supplements to support him. We are 4 months into this.
I really would like to start feeding my dog a raw diet (tripe included) but the more I read about it the more I'm confused. I've also read your articles and watched your videos but to be honest I'm none the wiser. The more I try to understand how to fix a bowl for my dog the more I scratch my head trying to put a meal together. For example if I add tripe what other ingredients should I remove, and if I add turmeric or colostrum or mushrooms or eggs... I'm so baffled. I think I'll stick to commercial food.
You don't have to take anything out of the meal when adding tripe. You could start by adding just a teaspoon and working up from there. There is a link in the description for easy recipes to make your own food for your dog!
There are many commercially prepared raw diets for dogs and cats. They’re complete and balanced. Examples include: Small Batch, Steve’s Real Food, and OC Raw Dog just to name a few.😄
I understand boiling the tripe will lose the beneficial nutrients. How about cook it in a slow cooker? I read the heat from the slow cooker is less intense.
should all the fat be removed from it before freezing the cut up portions? We got a whole one from a meat slaughterhouse today and I took hours cleaning, cutting, removing fat (from half of it) before giving up and just cutting the rest up and washing with hose, before bagging in ziplock bags and freezing it all. I'm exhauseted nad will probably never buy it still warm from the cow again. I'll buy it ground up.
Hi, I've been feeding my dog tripe for a year now, but i boil the tripe and feed her. The reason I give her boiled tripe is because I've observed that she develops tape worms way faster on raw tripe. I want to know if by boiling the trip I am losing out on the nutritional value.. if so, how do I feed her raw tripe without causing her a rapid worm infestation.
Boiling the tripe will kill off the beneficial enzymes. A common way to get rid of parasites in raw meat is freezing it for 2-3 weeks before feeding it. 🙂
@@DogsNaturallyMagazineDNM thank you for your response. Could you help understand how much tripe to feed my dog. My dog is a 4 year old 90lbs French Mastiff. I feed her two meals, for breakfast she gets kibbles and for dinner i feed her green tripe as a whole meal along with chicken feet and boiled vegetables. Could you please help me compose the meal of tripe, chicken feet, boiled vegetables, by the weight.
Lambs tripe doesn’t smell as much as the beef tripe. I get both for my dog. He loves tripe, and in any case the smell soon goes….just open window for a while….😊
Question: if I buy the dried lamb tripe and soak/rehydrate it - will it still be partially as effective? Or not at all (must be raw and fresh from the butcher) not purchased at pet store. Thank you. ❤️❤️
Hello. I make my own meals. I worked up to adding this to their daily meals. At most they get 5oz per every 5lbs. Is this too much & is it ok long term?
No, as long as it doesn’t upset them. When my dogs gut was very out of balance, I gave her nothing but tripe and goat milk for few weeks, and worked normal raw back in. She still gets tripe daily, about 30% of her food. I’ve tried taking her off, but the yeast and allergy problems keep coming back
Nope wrong answer on the internet i already find that out already had metal object in the bag of green tripe dog treats that is really dangerous to let dog consumed green tripe dog treat don’t feed that to your dog green tripe is (recalled)

Thanks......I think. I wanted the truth. Dang this is gross but forward we go. Anything for my little guy! I want him to live forever. ❤
I give my 18 month Samoyed Raw, Fresh Green Tripe, from Cow stomach, it stinks, but he LOVES IT AND HIS COAT GLISTENS
Awesome, amazing knowledge. Remarkable god bless u
Thank you for this great review!
Sounds like I should be eating it.
The tripe for human consumption is bleached, so all of the beneficial enzymes are gone:(
@@DogsNaturallyMagazineDNM My father used to eat white tripe and onions!
There is a Mexican dish called Menudo made from it, but I don't think it provides any nutritional support.
I haven’t found a local source. I just bought venison and lamb green tripe that is air dried. Will they get benefits from air dried?
how much should i feed my dog?
I buy it dried and feed as a treat. Is that any good?
Dried is ok, but you will lose some of the beneficial enzymes:)

Packaged dry foods gave my dogs inflammation. Ive switched to home made foods.

In Russia few famous breeders of Caucasian Ovcharka feed tripe only with some meat or fruits.
Is air dried green tripe also good? The air dried food I get that's made in NZ lists it as an ingredient.
Air dried tripe is good!

if it is freeze dried it will have more benefits than a dehydrated or cooked tripe. If you can find it raw, that is best!
@@DogsNaturallyMagazineDNM Thank you! ❤
My dog cant hsndle anesthesia how does the vet remove it then?
What about freeze dried? Is it just as worthy?
Yes, freeze drying keeps the nutrients intact!
Here in Vegas it’s impossible to find raw. I even asked a butcher from Utah they told me they can’t sell it. I buy canned.
How come that tripe has a 1:1 ratio of omega 6:3?
Can I feed raw green tripe to my SIBO\gerd\IBD dog?

Being honest...that aroma can knock me out.🤣 I have fed tripe outside. If you see Eli snuggling with Dana, give them a hug from us! Love those Labs!🖤
The aroma can definitely be overwhelming! Smart to feed it outside!
If it’s good for my dogs they get it, been feeding raw for 15 years, don’t even notice the smell
Where can I find green tripe?
Your local pet food store that carries raw food may have it, or you can talk to a local butcher!
What about freeze dried tripe?
You can give freeze dried tripe!
I also find that the lambs tripe is far less likely to cause any diarrhoea…..

I wish I could, but my stomach is turning just from the video 🤢 may have to pass on this one.
The smell definitely takes some getting used to!

What about parasites and salmonella and e cola?
Is it a muscle meat or organ meat?
