I won’t lie, I am and am not surprised with how close the S1 got to Big Boy near the end. The giant 6-4-4-6 was always going to be slow to start, with unbalanced weight and giant wheels. But it’s maximum power output is at high speed, and even at medium speeds it’s higher that the Challenger or the 4-8-4
But In real life the s1 would be kind of under powerd because it would have problems with wheel slipe because the trailing trucks and leading truck would take all of the weight and all the driving wheels would slip because there would not be a lot of weight on them which makes them kind of under powerd
The top speed of the UP big boy Is 80 but it’s recommended to only go 60 and the Challenger Top Speed 70 recommended 50 and for the S 1 100 to 140 and for 844 100 to 120 Top speed
Freight engines vs passenger engines. The PRR S1 with its 4 driving axles stands no chance against Big Boy and Challenger with heavy freight trains. Also, i think the trains used in this race are short for what a muscle engine is built for imo
My bet was on Big Boy, not just because it’s the Strongest but it’s 1 of my all time favorite trains, but the 844 is awesome too when it has never ever been retired and also the PRR S1 is very Good-looking and I quite like the Challenger too, But Big Boy is the Best out of all 4 of them🚂🇺🇸
Our freight trains are extremely important but people don’t care about them. Most people wouldn’t be alive right now if it wasn’t for the railroads. Great video as well!
Love your videos! Would really like to see more of these! The Southern Pacific "cab forward" would be a very entertaining contestant against the Big boy.
I call world strength championships!!! Steam vs diesel vs electric; USA vs UK vs Germany vs Japan!!! Well done Mr. Oliver!!! Side challenge: is an E2 tank engine stronger than a Pacific A4 as from the movie “Hero of the Rails”?
The reason why the PRR S1 and the UP 844 have a higher top speed is because they are on a rigid frame compared to the articulated, detached frames of the UP Big Boy and Challenger. Big Boy and Challenger can handle curves better due to their detached boilers from the front trunks, but their top speed is significantly nerfed in the process
This should be done again with more train cars and up hill. And figured big boy would win as its name was supposed to be the Wasatch titan because it easily conquered the hardest rail line in the world with the steepest grades going through a windy moutain pass
The Union Pacific Big Boy was actually meant to haul VERY long trains up steep grades. And when I say that I mean it could go up a 2% grade with a 5 mile long train and still pull it.
This is interesting and entertaining. This is why Big Boy and Challenger are built for strength and acceleration due to their small driving wheel. S1 and FEF are built for speed because of their large driving wheels.
Fun Fact about the Union Pacific Big Boy it's the strongest steam engine ever built and was specifically built for handling the steep inclines of the rocky mountains passes and was pretty much one of the main reasons the Allies won during WW2 the big boy hauled over 100 million tons of cargo from coast to coast during the course of America's involvement in the war
You should try the same with the winner here, an then the one with English ones then. You should have the 2-10-10-2 , which is bigger than these are by far.
Hey Oliver just wanted to say the UP 884 is an FEF3 class 4-8-4 class northeren(thats what we call them in america) just so u know mate i love the vids
Should have chosen a PRR Q2 if you wanted strength. While the S1 is fast, its not technically a strong train. Passenger trains are fast yes, but if you want raw power should've chosen the PRR Q2. Also the Virginian 2-10-10-2 would give big boy a run for its money.
Let’s get on with the strength test locomotives. They’re very strong powerful locomotives in America. Both challenger and Big Boy are freight service trains that is the reason why they can pull a lot of cars while the PRR S1 and 844 are passenger and mixed freight
The reason the s1 and the up 844 caught up is because they are passenger engines/ mixed traffic engines
A BIG mixed traffic engine
The s1 was not built for strength im surprised the 844 is losing to the s1 😮
I agree, 844 and 4014 usually lead trains together and both work well as one
@@stellambetu5139 it's because it has marginally better tractive effort and a fuckton more speed
And from what I know, pass. steam locos are build for a little bit of strength and a LOT for speed. And once they build up that speed, they keep it.
Fun Fact: It's speculated the PRR S1, the real life one, broke Mallard's record
Seriously 😳 that's soo cool
@@bluecomet1982 Did you miss where I said speculated?
Yeah there have been claims that the S1 touched 140 mph, but they have never been confirmed
@@wolfzillaproductions4563The fastest it was ever rumored to go was 156MPH.
@@wolfzillaproductions4563 same with the T1

Not trying to be annoying, but the challengers regularly operated at 70 mph on passenger trains
@@crocowithaglocko5876hes talking aboute the freight operation

The Union Pacific big boy would easily be able to pull 100-200+ pieces of rolling stock with EASE.
No up to 1,000
It's my favorite train in the world
@@rayyans4662No
The Big Boy is articulated, so it did not come close to derailing. The front curves without the rest of it.
7:45 yep that is basically what you'll see in America if you come here Oliver

I agree big boy is my favorite train
Also can the strength challenge be done uphill? Now that’s a real challenge.
Our freight trains are extremely important but people don’t care about them. Most people wouldn’t be alive right now if it wasn’t for the railroads. Great video as well!
I think these four engines should do a speed challenge
I’m curious if the 844 would/can beat the PRRS1 at 200%
I know what you mean but it is unfair because the 844 has more power
Can already tell this is ganna be a damned good race!! Also keep up the goodwork!
Love your videos! Would really like to see more of these! The Southern Pacific "cab forward" would be a very entertaining contestant against the Big boy.
America's loading gauge allowed us to pull off some bs that European railroads couldn't conceive.
This is something I'd support.
one of your best vids (my opinion) please do more strength chellenges
This was quite enjyoable to watch. You should do this with some American diesels next, maybe the ES44AC, SD70ACe, DD40AX, and AC6000CW.
Do you mean DDA40X
And the SD40-2
@@mulletmayhem3812The SD40-2 is smaller than all the Engines listed on the comment, so the it doesn’t count

I’ve watched your content since 4th grade 🤩
I’ve stopped watching when I was in 6th grade, but found you out of the blue.
Keep it going!
The S1 is the best kind of steam loco cause it’s super big super strong and super fast but it’s tide with big boy for my favorite
I love Union Pacific Big Boy on Strength Challenge because Big Boy is the strongest and quicker starter 🥰😉
Big boy was supposed to be the strongest cause in real life. He pushed an entire freight train
This should be done again with more train cars and up hill. And figured big boy would win as its name was supposed to be the Wasatch titan because it easily conquered the hardest rail line in the world with the steepest grades going through a windy moutain pass
9:23 XD hope you enjoyed your cookie
Moral to this race:
Sometimes sucess is not needed to surpass but determination leads to sucess
You’re my favourite train’s UA-camr😊
What if you did a race where you are actually driving a train and racing against another player?
Interesting
I think he did. He drove a Challenger vs a programmed Big Boy years ago.
@@harrisonfarnsworth4739Same Thing with Driving Golden Eagle VS A lot of A4’s
9:23 that was so random but funny for no reason 😭💀
Are you going to be reviewing that Eurostar in the background?
Also fun fact. The S1 is also called the Torpedo.
Can you have a Grate 9f race?
Here's a fun fact for you ,the big boy can pull 5 miles of Freight at 80mph, an can pull that same Freight at 3% grade at 30mph or 40mph.
i would have liked to have seen an alleghany in the lineup but this is Cool!
The fact the S1 was designed to haul deluxe passenger trains instead of freight is kinda funny
Let’s be honest America does like to be a show off with it’s locomotives Rockets, and such
Laser Jet I love your route building tutorials
The Union Pacific Big Boy was actually meant to haul VERY long trains up steep grades. And when I say that I mean it could go up a 2% grade with a 5 mile long train and still pull it.
Big boy still won
Whooo PRR!
That was a great race.
Hey mr Oliver did you plan to do this video Just because i told you do it or it is that you like the idea yes or no?😅 i Just want to know:D
Pease do something like this again I loved it.
This is interesting and entertaining. This is why Big Boy and Challenger are built for strength and acceleration due to their small driving wheel. S1 and FEF are built for speed because of their large driving wheels.
Make them race
Race starts at 3:10
Brilliant race
Lovley video mate
Bro is so close to 100k he’s at 99.9k
i love your channel!!!
Fun fact about the big boy, on flat ground he can pull the equivalent of 16 statues of liberty at once and get some speed to
9:24 it's a biscute Lazer, a biscute
Big Boy is HAULING, HES JUST HAULING XD (Completely S Rank tier)
This is going to be amazing
did you know the s1 does have a nickname, it was nicknamed the big engine due to its size
Big boy was literally built for this, that's why it's called "big boy".
Ngl but the UP 844 and PRR S1 look beautiful
Nice model railroad bro
Not even the S1 with its power and speed could beat the Big Boy's incredible strength
Now do a Niagara versus Super Hudson versus C&O 614 versus C&O 1601 strength challenge
Prediction:
First: S1
Second: 844
Third: Big Boy
Fourth: Challenger
You should have included the Pennsylvania class Q2 which had a whopping almost 8000 HP
It’s not the strongest steam engine ever built
They are all beautiful locomotives but Big Boy will always have my heart
keep it up my g
Oliver whydontyou do a race with the union Pacific challenger vs the union Pacific 844 race
Big boy 1:01
Many don't know this fact: Big boy's full speed is of 90 mph/160 kph if it's pulling passenger cars
the S1 did pull freight near the end of its life
The PRR S1 shouldn’t have been an Express Freight engine aswell as a Express Passenger engine, despite being so big, strong and fast
You should try the same with the winner here, an then the one with English ones then. You should have the 2-10-10-2 , which is bigger than these are by far.
Bg boy
Lazer when was the last time you raced the super class 47?
YES AND THE BIOG BOY WAS BUILT FOR LARG CARGO RUNS FOR ALOT EVEN TANK TRAINS SO IT WAS BUILT FOR THIS
4:40 We call them cough drops or Lausenges (spelling?) 🇺🇸
That tight curve part looks like the horseshoe curve
Please include Indian train ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey Oliver just wanted to say the UP 884 is an FEF3 class 4-8-4 class northeren(thats what we call them in america) just so u know mate i love the vids
844 was for short passenger trains so its not good with long frieght trains
You should know BigBoy could go 80 MPH (128.7 KPH) safely with a load
He reminds me of that one guy in the ready or not map, 32 megabytes a second
Should have chosen a PRR Q2 if you wanted strength. While the S1 is fast, its not technically a strong train. Passenger trains are fast yes, but if you want raw power should've chosen the PRR Q2. Also the Virginian 2-10-10-2 would give big boy a run for its money.
GOO BIG BOYY
fun fact: american steam trains are so damn reliable because the boilers are almost 10 inches thick on the walls.
The s1 is surprising me 😮
You should try tug of war but if it don't work maybe try tow with your irl model trains
My favourite train up big boy😊
Sonewin
🎉🎉
U have a hornby eurostar doma review
I would have included 611 and the new York Central hudsons
Add Vanda Bharat express ❤
Can you extend the race track already please🙏🙏🙏
Big boys very strong but I think that if race track was longer prrs one would surely win my favourite engine is the big boy and prrs one

I want to see it again, but with British Steam locomotives
Should of included the southern pacific cab forward
A single big boy locomotive would pull fright trains up to 3.5 miles long
You forgot to add to steam locomotives.
Duluth,Mesabi & iron range 2-8-8-4 yellow stones.
And Virginia 2-6-6-6 Allegheny.
A Y6b would eat all of them on startup, probably not at speed.
The big boy has got scraped
bruh, the 844 isnt ment for cargo let alone a massive train like that.
You should have added Santa Fe 3571
