Big boy is one of the most powerful locomotives ever built in history. These locomotives were designed to handle 4500 ton drag freights on their own over the mountains of Utah. They were capable and did in fact once pull a 5 1/2 long loaded freight train by themselves. 844 was more along the lines of a passenger engine much like an A4 or even a p class Mikado of lner heritage. Towards the end of the steam era here in the states, 844 did haul freight trains, think of her as just a huge mixed traffic loco
@@yuliaong9617 not even REMOTELY accurate. Don't ever compare fictional caricatures of locomotives to real life masterpieces. Trust me, people out there will NEVER stop making fun of you if you do. Especially nowadays.
If they were pulling 100 cars or more, the Big Boy would win. Not to mention the Big Boys’ max speed on freight trains was at a max of 60mph, the 844 and her sister engines have a max speed of atleast 110mph
I would like to say, that the big boy was made to haul freight at 60mph, where as the 844 was made to haul things at 120mph. The is a big difference between the two. The engineers were known for running the 844 like locomotives at more then 120mph
By American standards, these trains were pretty small. If they were pulling much more massive trains, big boy would win through strength. However, the FEF-3 (844) is still extremely strong, and also incredibly fast.
Union Pacific built their locos tough. 844 may be 'smaller', but size isn't everything. The Big Boys were meant to pull heavy loads great distances and not at high speed. Because 844 has speed it can pull heavy loads too, as it has a surplus of power for its size. A Big Boy is not necessarily in any hurry, but the FEFs can do any job. Better engineering!!😁
Hi LaZeR JET that was the best strength challenge ever and the up 844 is my favourite American steam train ever I like the sound I like when it runs and I like the speed
One lucky grandpa that got to do that on the Rock Island. 50 cars is a lot for British trains laserjet usually does, but yeah nothing compared to American consists.
Oliver I think I may have a solution to your problem of the engines exploding, just dont use the smokebox ones, I think you dud say that the smokebox engines have a tendency to explode when you give them too much power
Smokebox’s locomotives are designed to be as realistic as possible, meaning they will face explosions. So like if you’re wanting to get the best possible power test, you would have to use Smokebox’s locomotives. Maybe not making them race would cause them not to explode.
So I saw a documentary on big boy they said that they were pulling over 5 miles long so I looked up how many train cars were in a mile and it was between 90 and 150 so I estimated at least 500 minimum car was what big boys were pulling for that reason they were built for
Laserjet, amazing video, but may I ask you on quick question. Even though it's train simulator 2022, it is exactly the same map as the train simulator 2021 map.
Big Boys can pull up to 120 cars sometimes more. I believe 1 of the 25 managed to pull 154 cars. Oh and the Big Boys get go 80mhp but they never usually hit that speed.
I think that's why American trains have lots of power because they have to carry lots of freight while getting there quick to keep production moving along
I want the 844 to win because it is faster than and almost strong as the Big Boy. Did you know that there were 25 Big Boys, 105 Challengers, and 45 FEF class 4-8-4s of the Union Pacific.
If you are going to do a strength challenge, programming the locomotives so that they don’t over work themselves would be best. Edit: nevermind that’s exactly what he did lol
I want you to do a strength challenge with Northern Pacific Z5 Yellowstone against Northern Pacific Z8 Challenger. Also, do a strength Challenge with Chesapeake and Ohio Kanawha 2716 versus Chesapeake and Ohio 2-6-6-6 No. 1616.
Hey Lazer Jet, what is up? So regarding your steam engine races, have you tried a strength challenge with the Flying Scotsman and express passenger coaches?
@Lazer Jet, just a heads up coal burning engines burn coal and water (obviously) while Oil burning engines burn a specific type of oil (mainly bunker oil) and water (the oil replaces the coals location in the tender) and the extra tender u had on N&W #611 is an auxiliary tender. The Auxiliary tenders for USA locomotives hold nothing but water for extra water capacity because there r no water towers anywhere across the United States except for specific areas like the C&T, D&S narrow gauge and other preserved railroads across the usa. Also the N&W #611 can only operate on the east coast of the united states because the east coast has an abundant coal supply where the rest of the usa doesn't plus there r no coal depot's for her anywhere else other than the east coast as a result all modern preserved steam locomotives are converted to burn oil to go anywhere in the united states

So big boy is Henry from Thomas and 844 is Edward from Thomas too (basically)

I would agree
Incorrect, Big Boy type was capable of pushing 85MPH with 0 cars, 75MPH for 50 cars at a 0.1% grade
Can someone explain to me why does the speedometer on the up 844 says 200mph maximum top speed if it can only go 120mph ?
@@cecainemaresainnebunesc8962 in case of a runaway, they can monitor speed
@@NashRailfan you are correct, but supposedly the big boys could go like 110 MPH. But they obviously didn't test that.

I’m not surprised that Big Boy was eventually come to the strength competitions, I wonder about the Challenger 🤔
While in service, Big Boy could haul 5 mile long trains and had a top speed of 80mph.
I’ve seen the UP Big Boy 4014 in person and running. The shear size and amount of power it puts out is incredible.
I love how the whistles sound on the 844 and 4014
They do sound good, but it’s kinda off-putting that they’re the same whistle type

You should do a narrow gauge strength challenge
Cool idea bro
Perhaps add a 0-4-0TT England class. (Basis for Duke)
ok but how about only 8 wagons because the guage engines are like a bit too small to carry alot
2 famous locomotive racing.
Nice
New Challenge?
How about you make a map of sherman-hill and give BigBoy a hometown revenge at 100%?
The Big Boys were strong enough to pull atleast 150 cars, maybe even 200+
Big boy got the grip and power big boy got 4 pistons maybe more behind the wheels idk
Question is at what speed.
@@chanshadeez2303 max speed of the bigboys was 83 mph, so with a heavy train i imagine track speed

Hahahaahahahh! 16 cars is a walk in the park for the Big Boys.

nice race keep it up
I think it is going to be the big boy and also I love your channel!!
It is common is America to see 100-200 car trains
Great race mate.
Now you've done the American Strength Challenge, how about the German Strength Challenge with German Steam Locomotives.
The Big Boy, the C&O Allegheny, the N&W Y6b, the PRR Q2, they were all extremely powerful locomotives, in close competition with one another.
Great video
Speed isn’t everything, but being reliable and useful is.
Awesome vid, would love to hear the engines more tho. I don't have this game yet, I need a very good pc I think? One day.... :))

Nah. The world record for a non-streamlined steam locomotive is 108 mph, held by a Gresley A3. FEF3s could feasibly handle close to 105 IMO though.

HAPPY FIRST RACE IN TS2022!
HOW DID YOU GET STEAM IN 2022.
Think about it this way though the big boy uses far more fuel despite making more tractive effort to negate the long consist
It would be neat to see him do a pulling test with a British 0-4-0 tank engine and an American 0-4-0 saddle-tank
how about doing a strength test (nyc hudson vs n&w 611 with this consist of freight cars).
You should check if Uk locos can pull American length of trains

Try them pulling fright on slopes, that will be a challenge.
Each train on each railway have the Mae whistle to tell them apart
Last month smokebox just released his union pacific heavy challenger you should try that loco it's really amazing.
