The Union Pacific 844 is the living legend as it’s the only steam locomotive that has never been retired and it’s still on the roster
I just love hearing how Lazer thinks that the Hudson is a big loco, meanwhile the Big Boy is just a short ways away chilling
I mean. Our American engines are larger than British engines
Stop it is British do not like it
That’s why it’s funny
Well, he is from the UK, its someting normal, he is not used to see engines tha big
The Hudsons were actually very large engines, although they were smallest of the "bigger American engines"
Actually, the S1 and NYC Hudson is prototypically accurate, as irl the PRR and NYC were fierce rivals, they would even race their main passenger trains into Chicago
Indeed, dont forget the Art Deco movement, that started the Streamlining, first rivals were the Dreyfuss Hudsons and the Streamlined PRR K4s
Who won?
@@michaelfrazierjr1282 The hudson
@@michaelfrazierjr1282 not sure, not was every time the 20th Century Limited and the Broadway Limited arrived into Chicago
At 3:15 and 3:33, gotta love America's LARGE loading gauge.
Ah yes American locomotives, standing At 16ft tall and heavy weight.
surprisingly, the S1 was longer than the big boy by a few feet. thats how it got its nickname: The Big Engine.
however, the S1 would have wheelslip problems leading to an early scrapping. it was almost preserved, but the project fell through due to financial problems of the PRR.
Wheelslip was common on almost every Duplex
Wasn't it proven that most of the S1 wheelslip problems came from their engineers?
@@Kghammond852 no that was proven with the T1’s
@@Kghammond852 it was confirmed most of the time, the S1 was even fitted with a sand dome later to try and fix the issue, the same problem appeared on the T1, and it was even more obvious that it eas on the engineers hands
13:12 well all of the American trains uses thier whisles and horns to comunicate with eachother. from exampele one long tot means stop or stopped. 2 toots means go forwoad and 3 for backing up. Ps check this one Out for more info ua-cam.com/video/eI6xSjkcXTY/v-deo.html
Those were some very interesting results for sure. I’ve literally never remembered Daylight doing that well and I’m surprised how slow the S1 started. It usually shoots off like a bullet when I drive it.
Programming and free driving have different performance
I love how its almost like the S1 was just giving everyone a head start tho lol. Sorry I love characterizing the steam engines.
@@FranquitoMV2004 I feel you there I just picture "well might as well make it interesting"
Gp30 foamer. Huh.. seems familiar
In real life, the S1 was claimed to have reached a maximum speed of 152mph, which unofficially makes it the fastest steam locomotive in world history, not just US history.
it was 156mph actually
There is a bit of evidence that makes it a strong possibility
The S1 is definitely my favorite, as I live in Pennsylvania and it is the true biggest steam loco ever constructed. It takes up its own area code it's so big.😂 Besides that, it holds the unofficial world record for speed, at 156 mph or something like that. 154, 156, something. Al I know is the PRR got a hefty fine for their actions with that brute.😂
Here are some facts about the Pennsylvanian Railroad S1 to know:
It is the longest locomotive in the world and thus nicknamed the "Big Engine."
It's also the longest-rigged frame steam locomotive.
It's said that the locomotive could go to speeds of 150mph. But this isn't official.
It's the Pennsylvanian Railroad's 1st Duplex locomotive and the 2nd Duplex locomotive in general.
She was too long for most of the Pennsylvanian Railroad system.
And finally, she is the only member of her class
Perhaps the ghost... of the Legendary S1 still speeds the American railroad to this day...
@@aznmozez2214 Yeah, that seems about right
@@berkshire4607 Casually Vibes to Ghost Trains ;) 🎶ua-cam.com/video/ZjbjUy4KDYI/v-deo.html
@@aznmozez2214 thanks
@@berkshire4607 @Aznmozez22 i love the Hudson and the S1! They Look like they came straight out of classic science fiction too! I know there are many streamlined engines that look like that but. I'm just gona vibe too lol. ua-cam.com/video/K4B27RW29_w/v-deo.html
I know a lot of people like how an engine itself looks. I like the tenders, and I think the PRR long haul tenders are absolutely drop dead gorgeous.
You should do a race with the Pennsylvania rail road t-1, it’s considered to be one of the fastest American locomotives ever
Great idea 👍 would be a fun race
There's no T1 DLC
@@FranquitoMV2004 darn
the s1 is faster than the t1, plus the t1 doesnt exist in the game yet
Best race yet
Of all of these engines, the Daylight is hands down my favorite steamer of all time
Faylight?
It used to be my fav when i eas younger, then a few years later i learned about the PRR S1 and whe took tge spot, but i must say tgat im surprised that Daylight did this well on the race, she usually goes a bit slower due to her simulation files
@Lazer Jet: It's possible that The S1 is bigger than Big Boy.
Oh geez, that’s really true
I checked their both 16 feet tall
4014 just 21/2 inches taller
The S1 is definitely longer as she’s 140 ft long and 4014 is 132 ft long
@@TrainBoi6095 Told you so.
Realistically we all know the s1 would smoke the hudson
Indeed
It just did, it didn't need to be first place to show it ;)
@@aznmozez2214 agree, if the track was longer, the S1 would have won, in theory some Penssy engineers and firemans said that the S1 mamaged to reach a speed of 157mph around the 1940s, but it was never confirmed, thats why Mallard keeps her well deserved crown today
@@FranquitoMV2004 theirs also a rumor that the Pennsylvania t1 can get to 140. 5550 being built right now might steal the crown from mallard if they do a speed test.
fun fact: the S1 is actually the biggest engine in the world beating Big Boy by a couple of feet. the reason why Big Boy holds that record tho is cuz the S1 was pretty flawed irl and also was scrapped. and another fact is it was claimed that 6100 was actually the fastest engine in the world with a top speed of 140mph. sadly we may never see exactly if it was true or not.
great video!
The T1 had the supposed top speed of 143mph. The S1 had the even crazier "supposed" top speed of 152mph.
And the record for the largest engine is different however you measure it. The big boy's engine on its own is longer than the s1, but the s1's tender is so big that's what gives it the edge.
the biggest was actually Norfolk and Western steam turbine class TE number 2300 a.k.a the "Jawn Henry which measured a total of 161 feet
The S1 reminds me of the train from snowpiercer
Hi LaZeR JET, I love your videos! Keep up the good work, I love these race videos their always so fun to watch since you'll never know what happens!
Same
As a Canadian I think that you should do a Canadian train race please😇
You got to do more with the S1
Love these races!
As a train and car nerd, Train drag racing is the most amazing thing ever
The S1 and Hudson being so close makes sense, really. The NYC Hudsons and the PRR T1's were both roads' premier passenger express locomotives, and both roads were legendarily competitive. The rivalry was so fierce between the PRR and NYC that a significant part of Penn Central's failure was the sheer volume of duplicate routes; anywhere one went, the other had to go too. And the S1 being a slow starter but fast at speed also makes sense when you consider the PRR's main line.
I love the S1😍
Your vids are amazing, i wanna learn how to set all this up so i can test some myself
0:26 the Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 Big Boys were built between 1941 and 1944, out of the 25 Big Boys that were built, 8 survived, and 4014 is the only Big Boy that was restored and is now running excursions here in America
Incredible!
YESSSSS A SECOND ONE AFTER 6 years! Yaaaaay
You should do a strength competition with big American articulated steam locomotives. Big Boy is my personal favorite steam locomotive and when I get Train Simulator, I'm going to get the Smokebox Big Boy and operate the heck out of it
I would love if you would be able to add the cab forward Loco to the lineup. I think that would be awesome
Hey Oliver the S1 fined for going 152MPH in 1952
0:35 Southern Pacific #4449 is a Southern Pacific GS-4 (Golden State) Class 4-8-4 that was built on May 20th of 1941, she was retired on October 2nd of 1958, and currently runs excursions, but she doesn't do it as often as she did before, and yes, she does in fact have a horn
Great share
If you think the S1 is scary you should check out the PRR T1 (soon to be brought back from extinction)
S1 was bigger and faster then T1
but they are very close
Im glad the s1 is being used here
Its documented that the PRR S1 6100 went at a top speed of 156 M.P.H at one point.
What? Really?
Its just said that she did, but it was never a documented run or confirmed, but i belive its real, i love the PRR Locos, they variate a lot, and thats why PRR is my fav railroad
@@adventuresofamtrakcascades301 she didnt messuere her speed at the time
but with how long it took to get from a to B she likely hit that speed once
I think you should raise the exact same engines but with their coches 😅😊
LOVE YOUR VIDIOES❤
The urge to make a locomotive just do it always wins these races
The S1 was the worlds longest steam engine when it excisted until it was scrapped, it was about 8 feet longer than big boy
daylight will always be my favourite
The UP are built for raw power and torque. That's why they took off so much faster than the passenger locomotives.
S1 is actually the official fastest steam engine in history. Very surprised it came first. The S1 can do 250kph, the Hudson only 197
Weird how 844 didnt do better since It can go 110-120 mph, and 120% of 120 is 144, so it should’ve been neck and neck with Daylight
because it is smokeboxes', he tends to make it on the safe side and programs it to max out at 100 percent is only 100 mph.
0:23 the Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 Challengers were built between 1936 and 1944, but sadly, out of the 105 Challengers that were built, only 2 have survived, they are 3985 and 3977, one is about to undergo a complete restoration to operating condition after being retired from excursion service in 2010, and one that's on permanent static display
Great video Oliver could you try and do a race in train sim world 3
My favorite American steam locomotive is easily the New Haven I-5 Hudson, which I believe is one of the most underrated steam locomotives ever built.
I’m not sure if you do requests but if you can find the New Haven I-5 Hudson in this game, could you make a video about it?
Also, I love your videos, especially the train racing videos! I’ve been a fan for years!
Big Boy was hustling in the first part lol
Please run the prr s1 and test its speed please
nice
I recemended the S1 in one of your livestreams
The S1 looks like they took a bigboy and said "now how do I make this girl go faster."
yes yes yes yes good job
You should do a race with the New York Central Hudson and the s-1 on the drag strip!!!
There is also a T1 from the PRR that is currently being rebuilt as I type this message to beat mallard and become the fastest official steam train in the world.
The Hudson with its coaches also looks splendid
The S1s max speed is rediculous. She suffered from wheel slip issues dude to the large leading and trailing bogies. But when she gets to speed she flys
The S1 has a Pennsylvania Railroad Coast-to-Coast welded tender.
I like the S1 the most
The battle of the sheilds at the front
Request: Flying Scotsman vs Daylight
This was i n t e n s e omg I think if the track was longer the s1 would have won
Hi LaZer JET, I really like your videos! Can you tell which game do you play and how to download/purchase the game?
hudson the best. at least it wasn't a failure for it's own railroad.
I love this¡!!!!!!!!!. I like this prrs1❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I actually have reached 200mph with the s1 last night and believe me, i derailed almost a minute later after recording footage.
Th S1 heard when he said it was slow 😂
I bet LNER A1 VS GWR Castle next
The S1 actually had the largest tender in the world.
Man who else remembers the old USA steam locos race from like 2017
Lazer Jet, when you make your testing routes/race routes, do you superelevate your curves?
Do this race again with some tonnage behind the locomotives?
By the way you said that the tender of the PRR S-1 is “ The longest tender I have ever seen” it actually was the biggest tender made for a steam locomotive in history
Side note, I live in New York City and I have watched your videos for a long time especially the model train ones and I would like you to make a video of “ how to weather a American 2-6-2 loco like a scrap look please thanks
I hope the prr T1 is added which as an unofficial top speed of 140mph
Hi, I was wondering if you could race the amtrak acela express vs New York Central Hudson what do you think.
the S1 top speed was said to be 150 but not as fast as it went
Oliver: and I know y’all asking the same question. “ how fast does it go”
Me just curious on if it’s bigger then Big Boy
its longer than the big boy by a few feet
I think that you should do a video on the prr k4 that is a good engine to add
Unless you have a mega long track, the Hudson will win almost every time because of the INSANE acceleration
Hello Lazer Jet😊😊😊. How are you doing now? I hope you are doing good 😊. I have a request ☺️. Can you make a longer track and make a race of S1 vs Mallard. Please can you do that 🥺🥺. Because S1 did SUPER SUPER well. Please make a video of that. Thank you.
Hi Lazer I am sending the letter today!
How about on doing another uk engines race like you did years ago
For me, in reality, out of 4 express engines, I like Daylight a lot, while out of 2 big freight engines, I like the Big Boy a lot.
Mine ones are the S1 for expresses and the Challenger for heavy freight haulers
I used to miss @LaZer Jet using free cam in train races
My favourite trains are the S1 daylight union 844 big boy
I remember the 844 going at 200 mph in a race with mallard (why didn't she do it again?)
Because a few years ago it got a patch, where its permormance got affected by the new smokebox performance
Also the Piston Rods would “explode” if it went too fast
S1 is a duplex locomotive btw
I suggest, 3v3v3 UK vs USA vs Germany
Sounds nice, i have some contenders
USA : PRR S1, NYC Dreyfuss Hudson & SP GS-4 4449 Daylight
UK : LNER A3 Flying Scotsman, LMS/BR Stanier Black 5 & GWR City of Truro
Germany : DB BR10, BR03 & BR01
It wouldve been even better if you crashed the 844 again just to keep tradition
My favourite Loco is S1 from PRR
I would like to ride on these when im very much older
Big boy 🚂🚂
I love the s1
This is true - one is the biggest steam train in the world
do you have to buy every year of the train simulator games to get the latest one or does it like update
I love daylight Southern pasithick
The Union Pacific 844 is a UP FEF-3 4-8-4
Here's an idea somebody else could've said before: Speed test + Race
This is me being technical but
The dreyfuss has a max speed of 123mph
But the prr s1 has a speed of 141mph
The dreyfuss has a tractive effort of 186.20kN=186kN
But the prr s1 has a tractive effort of 339
.86kN=340kN
Can you do something with Australian trains
1:29 the Pennsylvania Railroad S1 didn't do too well bcuz of alot of reasons of which I can't remember, but watch a video on the locomotive, and find out for yourself
There was an advertisement right after blazer said that
