We bought a 2019 Transit Custom Van in 2023 with the 2L wet-belt engine from a local Ford main dealer with 50K miles with a full service history, it was then professionally fully converted into our campervan and we intend on keeping it for several years as it's also our second vehicle (if you don't includ my motorbikes). Although we've only done a couple of thousand miles since owning it (partly because the conversion took a few months to arrange and be finished) it's only got about 2K more miles on the clock. However, we plan to do a lot more travelling in 2025 across the UK and Europe, so want to have the wet belt(s) changed very soon for peace of mind for a few years. I don't have the facility or (hopefully) need to remove the engine from the van so want it to be done in-situ. We would welcome recommendations for a garage / mechanic to do this job, preferably locally (anywhere in the South Devon area, from Exeter to Torbay), but would consider further afield if necessary.
I quite like this episode, as you spend a lot of time showing us the engines and then displaying the remedies for any problems encountered. And the sound was terrific. 😆
Hey Lee and Issac, Lee when you machine the valve pockets so close to the edge of the piston would that create a hot spot? Issac, have you thought about changing your GFs name to Subaru, smiles all round.great video chaps 👍🇦🇺🍻
After milling the valvepockets is there any worry about the thin edge left . Will that sustain the heat created at the crown of the piston or will the metal left be insufficient to prevent fatigue or burn ?
Hi, just out of interest that 1.5 PSA lump has it got a 7mm chain or the "uprated" 8mm one. I have heard of 7s failing on a regular basis and looking at the year of manufacture will these be the diesel version of an eco boom engine ?
You are right about the 7mm chain failing. Thankfully it can be identified by the number stamped in the cam cover. Unfortunately to convert to 8mm it needs new cams as well as the chain and tensioner.
So in all these years that's the first time I've ever seen a set of honing Stones anywhere in the workshop is that a new tool or did Noah's Ark just reappear?
tip for the subaru motor, run your mains on the tighter side of spec as the two halves of the block are trying to pull apart and your clearances will grow especially if you are running big power
To think ford got 550bhp for saloon car racing with the cossie engine so at that power wouldn't expect a long life I rate the blacktop zetec as my everyday mk1 focus has done over 200000 miles and still going well shame the newer generation of ford engines aren't as good

HP bragging is like our street racer clowns bragging how fast they are in the 1/4 mile. Try talking them into going to a sanctioned track and they will not. Actual timed runs separate the men from the BS poker guys. You would think someone would come up with a kit to get rid of the wet belt and put a chain in that will last.
You break the promises on your video schedule, and then make up excuses. How can a person trust your word regarding engine work if they can't trust your promised video schedule? Food for thought. Not to break balls on when the videos come out, but rather that we be good and solid to our word, to our promises. Far better to say nothing than to say things that turn out not to be true. We should give pause about what we say, and not make promises or commitments that we can't keep for one reason or another.
