Bought a dry hop doser recently (7bbl brewery) and it is a game changer. For around 500 dollars it will improve every beer you dry hop considerably. Less oxygen ingress = exponentially better hop character.
Hey Adam. Thanks again for the content. I built a doser out of PVC pipe and a RV holding tank dump valve. :). It's smaller than the professional one and for some reason it never occurred to me to fill it twice. Thanks for the obvious idea. Lol. One step I do is to push CO2 out the fermenter when I install the doser with the doser valve open. That way I purge the small amount of air that is between the valve and the tank. Close the valve and then proceed as you show.
Great video! Appreciate the real world tutorial of dry hopping. So at a home brew scale using a keg for fermentation, how bad is it to dry hops onto fermented beer? In other words not dropping out yeast but adding dry hops on yeast cake?
I really want a hop doser, but I also haven't been convinced yet that I can't get the same effect by blowing co2 the CIP arm while dropping and putting a 4 inch valve on the top port. I haven't had a hop geyser yet so maybe that's what it would take to convince me.
Thanks for showing the process! How much CO2 do you think this uses? Seems like tons. I’m a homebrewer and use a similar/mini item called a hop bong. To further decrease o2 (I think), I purge like you but then also run co2 into the tank so when I open the BV gas is also flowing up and out of my doser (I have Spunding valve on there so the pressure gradient is a few psi). It’s gotta help the DO,right?
I'm super late to this video, but I wanted to ask you a question. Do you attach the doser to the tank prior to brew day or attach it on the day you dry-hop the beer? I assume it's the former, but I'd love to be able to use it for multiple tanks if that's possible. Looking at buying one and want to make sure it will suit my needs on our 7 bbl system.
If your dry hopping during a mild fermentation isn’t there enough natural CO2 over the beer in the bottom of the fermenter and once sealed to a air lock the O2 would be replaced by CO2 from the bottom up?

love it!

Cool to see this size of a hop doser in action. Thanks Adam!
No problem!

it can depend. generally you want to get that yeast off the beer tho.

Haha! Yeah I hear you. I don’t have data to support it, but my gut tells me I am getting less CO2 ingress. Again, just a hunch tho.
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it!

I have a similar set up on my unitank for home brew. The question i have is do you do a hop dump before you package?

Needs a clear lid to watch the hops drop
How much psi are you purging with? If you said it I completely missed it lol 😂
