    This is awesome. I love the multi-purpose idea and the fact that you can pick whatever threaded pad you want!
    Not saying it would work well - BUT you could even mount some cameras on that thing :-)

    I definitely recommend this. Now that I own it, I wouldn't recommend buying any of the other pedal pads on the market. I love it so much that there's only 1 thing I don't like about it, and it's actually quite trivial: the spurs are only adjustable with the included hex wrench. It's very tedious. If *I* had designed the Meinl Pedal Mount, then I would have at least made the spurs adjustable with the usual thumb screws that we have on bass drum pedals and other pedal mounts and pedal pads. The first time I take this to a gig for my pre-gig warm-up, I will be wishing for a quick and easy way to retract these spurs so that they aren't a danger in my hardware bag (I don't want them puncturing a hole in my bag or damaging any of my hardware in it). Not only that, but if there's no carpeted surface to use while warming up, I'll have to retract the spurs which will consume valuable warm-up time.
    I guess there's 1 more minor thing I don't like: it doesn't have any memory locks. It needs 2: one for the pad's location on the horizontal part of the rod, and one for the height adjustment part of the rod. I want to bring this to my next gig (and every gig), but I will probably have to leave it fully assembled. Or perhaps I'll have to use a marker to make marks on the rod that can act as my memory locks to show me where to put the pad and how high to set the rod. I'd like to avoid that because I want to keep the resale value of this as high as I can, but I seriously doubt I'll ever want to part with it.
    Ultimately though, I give this a full 5 stars without any hesitation at all, and I firmly believe that this is superior to all of the other pedal pads on the market.
    Perhaps my favorite thing is, this pedal pad is *completely* adjustable. You can adjust the tilt to match the tilt of your bass drum (that's what the wing nuts are for on the feet), you can adjust the height, and you can adjust the horizontal location of the pad itself to adjust where the striking surface is (closer to you or further away). None of the other pedal pads I found while shopping around are this adjustable! Some of them can't be adjusted at all! Since I'm able to adjust this pedal pad in every way that you can think of, I have been able to perfectly match my bass drum in terms of its tilt and where the actual striking surface is. One of the biggest complaints I saw with *other* pads is, the striking surface itself is too close and can't be adjusted. Another complaint was the lack of a height adjustment on some of them. Another was a lack of an angle/tilt adjustment. The Meinl Dynamic Pedal Pad has *ALL* of these adjustments.
    Another complaint I saw of other pads is, some of them have a relatively thick rubber pad *glued* to the part where the pedal attaches. The problem with this is, it can make the attachment part too thick for your pedal. Meinl was smart and didn't do this. Instead, they simply included a pad that you can attach if you want one or need one (it has an adhesive backing that you expose by peeling off some protective paper).
    Anyway, now I'll tell you about the sound of the pad. It's about as quiet as I think any pedal pad could be, and all I hear is the pad when I am using it. It's just a *reasonably* quiet mid-range frequency thump (about as quiet as you can expect when whacking it with a bass drum beater). It's a very clean sound. There are no distracting noises to go along with it. I have an original 12" HQ Percussion RealFeel pad that I am using at the same time (as my pretend snare drum), and I would say the pad on this Meinl Dynamic Pedal Pad is just *slightly* louder than the gum rubber side of my RealFeel pad. I'm using a brand new Iron Cobra, so I also have those new black felt Power-Strike beaters. The sound of the pedal pad will be determined by the beater(s) you're using, and also how hard you're hitting. It's also determined by the floor and a number of other factors. Mine doesn't sound like a bass drum like it does in this video because I have it on high-pile (plush) carpet that has a solid cement floor underneath it. So, all I'm hearing is the sound of the pad, but it's not a bad sound at all.
    The feel of the pad is excellent as well. Before I discuss the feel, please understand that nothing will feel the same as a bass drum. That's a feel that's impossible to duplicate perfectly with a solid pad, just like how it's impossible to duplicate the feel of a snare drum or a tom-tom with a solid pad. What you want from a pedal pad though is the same thing that you want from a practice pad for your sticks: you want enough rebound so that you can practice and do your exercises, and it also has to feel good so that you aren't distracted by the feel. This pedal pad gives you *exactly* that, and it feels excellent at *all* dynamic levels. I was even practicing songs that require brushes and an extremely light touch on the bass drum ("feathering"), and I was loving it. Yes, it's a harder-feeling surface than a bass drum and it provides more rebound than a bass drum, but again, that's unavoidable. If you want something that feels as "realistic" as possible, then you'd probably have to buy something like the Roland KD-120B V-Kick Trigger Pad (which costs over $450), or the KD-140 V-Kick Trigger Pad (which is around $1,200). Even with those, you're not moving air inside of a bass drum, so the feel would still be 'wrong'. It would undoubtedly be far better than a solid pad, but still.
    I received my Meinl Dynamic Pedal Pad a couple of days ago and I practiced on it already for at least 3 hours straight non-stop, and NOTHING came loose! I have a double pedal and I honestly tried my best to put this thing to the test to see if I could get something to come loose. I fully expected one of the 4 wing nuts or wing bolts to come loose. Instead, after those ~3 hours, all of them were still exactly as tight as they were before I started. Thanks to the spurs, it also didn't slide away from me - not even 1 millimeter! In order to see if it was moving, I simply put the included hex wrench on the floor next to one of the rubber feet on the side closest to me (I left it touching the rubber foot). That way, if the Pedal Mount were slowly moving away from me, I would have seen it very clearly. Instead, even after those ~3 hours, the Pedal Mount was still in the exact same spot. This thing is extremely well-built and extremely solid. I'm very happy with it!
    Another thing I love is, the pad itself doesn't seem to be wearing out or coming apart at all. I inspected my floor and pedals and the pedal support plates after my ~3-hour session, and I saw absolutely no black dust from the pad at all. I mean, another complaint I saw of *other* pads on the market is, they wear out very quickly and you can see the evidence of it on the floor after every use. One person solved that issue of their pad using duct tape, and another replaced the pad with a small RealFeel practice pad they were using for their sticks (it was a bit of a project for them, but they did it and they're happy). To me, this is all laughable because this Meinl pad seems to be extremely durable. So, I don't see any evidence that I'll ever have to replace it, or put duct tape on it, or worry about it at all for any reason.
    @Jazz Martyrs, you said it moves too much upon impact. I disagree, and this is based on my use of it so far. I never once felt it or noticed it while using it. It didn't look to me like it was moving as much as it appears to be in this video. I doubt you will find a pedal pad that doesn't move at all though. If you do find one that doesn't move, it will probably be one that doesn't have the type of adjustment you need, such as tilt, height, or the location of the striking surface. Or, it'll probably feel crappy. Or it'll probably have an annoying sound. Or it'll probably wear out quickly and leave a mess on the floor. Or, perhaps the fact that it doesn't move at all when its hit will make it feel too hard. I think the fact that this thing can move as much as it does when you hit it contributes to its superior feel.
    One final little thing to mention that I love is, the wing bolt that tightens the vertical adjustment rod in place has a polished and rounded tip. That means the part of the wing bolt that's pressing up against the vertical rod and holding it in place isn't practically drilling into the rod due to being a rough unfinished edge. I decided to check this before tightening because of how nice the finish is on the rod. I was worried I'd be ruining it. This is my first Meinl product, so I didn't know what to expect. I'm very impressed by this attention to detail. They could easily just leave the tip of the wing bolt unfinished like many manufacturers do.
    So yeah, don't even hesitate: just buy one. I see no good reason to consider any of the others on the market.

    • @TwoCablesOCN
      @TwoCablesOCN 5 років тому

      That's because of the floor it's on. It looks like it's a very nice real wood floor in a very nice recording studio. Mine doesn't sound like a bass drum because it's on a high-pile carpet that has a solid cement floor under it. That's the floor I have in my little bedroom where I use my Meinl Dynamic Pedal Pad. Even so, the sound it makes isn't bad at all, or distracting, etc.

    Is the actual foam-pad attachment for the Pedal Pad available as a separate part as a replacement? The rival product from Evans features a replaceable pad available separately.

      Unfortunately, it seems it's not separately available. So, I am here to echo this request! Meinl: please make the pad itself available as a separate purchase, especially for people who already own a Pedal Mount.

    I love Benny Greb. This is cool but Steve Smith has the exact same thing. Looks good in theory but your drums are never mounted to you leg so adapting to this weird feel seems illogical to me. Nevertheless it is a cool idea. I am not trying to hate. If this works for you more power to ya.

    • @maxadrums
      @maxadrums 6 років тому +4

      Cameron, the purpose of this practice pad mount was that you can pick whatever threaded pracice pad you've got and mount it on the mount. Many companies do have knee-pads out, but it's always a specific pad. In this case, you can take whatever pad you're used to and just mount it up. Allows you to pick sizes, feel, brands, what-have-you.
      And the purpose for the "kick-mount" seems to be that 1. It's lighter than other kick-pads on the market, and it's also a multi-purpose stand, as you can mount percussive instruments on it, as well as using it for pad practice.
