you fellas ever think that might be a model tt not a model t.. center to center wheel base 125 inches instead of 100 inches... bet it is.. worm drive rear diff vs ring and pinion... yep it is..... three speed secondary transmission with low, direct drive and overdrive... uh huh.... looks to me like u have a 25mph or so work truck called a ford model tt. not a model t. welcome to the world of the first ford 1 ton truck started in 1917!

I looked into this and I think you called it! It does have the worm drive rear axle with the secondary transmission. I am planning on a follow up video where I go into what it is more and what it takes to drive it. Thanks for posting this up!

It is a TT. I have a 1926 flatbed with a standard cab, but the top was cut off so it would fit under the orchard trees. I bought it from the old farmer who bought it new off the Ford lot in Healdsburg, CA.

As utilitarian as a neighbor who wanted van comfort with truck utility and sawed the van in half, put on a truck rear. No idea if he plans to marry the other halves into a partner vehicle, but that'd be a sight.

it reminds me of a guy when I was a kid in the 50's, although he had been doing it long before I was born,
He drove a truck with a cut out on one side of the box selling fruits and vegetables,
that was when we still had milkmen delivering dairy to the homes. fun truck you have there, Blessings to you and yours

That is a sweet Model T C cab. My dream has been to build one since I was a kid. Now that I'm retired I think I will. Watching this gave me some great ideas. Now to find a small car with a V-6 in it I just need the frame, motor and trans, hopefully with a 4 speed. 😊😇

The lever is for a two speed drive line. Normally don't run anything but 30w non detergent oil. But you have an alt. Detergent destroys the mag windings on the flywheel. Make sure the oil contains ZDDP to protect the cam. The oil pan alignment is very important. It holds the transmission bearing and that sort of takes the place of a 4th main bearing. I'd highly recommend a magnetic oil pan drain plug. Oil contamination will build up on the crank stingers and they won't sling oil as well.

    • @kfl611
      @kfl611 2 роки тому +2

I read a comment from someone who had a model t and they said they went up a lot of hills, as they lived in San Francisco. He said he burned out the 1st main bearing, as it did not get splashed with oil and he said the old times said if you drove up a lot of hills and had a model t with out a oil pump, they used to add in an extra quart of motor oil, so all the bearings could get splashed.

My dad had a ‘27. Driving a Model T is kind of an advanced course. I’m surprised you did as well as you did for not knowing the secrets. 2 things that will help.
The lever that seems to be the parking brake on the drivers left has a couple of functions. There are 3 positions. All the way rearward is in deed the parking brake. The center position place the car in neutral by lifting up a lever that disengages the clutch. All the way forward engages the clutch and the car will take off in high gear unless you control it with the left pedal. As built, Model Ts only had 2 gears, low and high. Your example has a Ruxstell (Sp?) rear end which gives you more gears via a high and low range at the rear axle. But getting back to the left pedal, it also has 3 positions. In the middle, the clutch is again disengaged and the car should remain stationary. Pressing the pedal all the way down puts the car in low gear and you can pull away slowly. Releasing the pedal by lifting your foot completely allows the shifting mechanism to spring back thru the neutral position and then engage high gear. Once you get the knack of driving your Tin Lizzie, it becomes pretty natural to control the car using that pedal. There should be a floor pedal to the right of the three transmission pedals that is a floor throttle that you can use to control engine speed much like a modern car. The hand throttle is used for starting the engine but good T drivers rely on the foot throttle for actual driving. BTW, you need to adjust your idle speed downward. If your car runs well (yours does) it should idle right down to where you can count along with the cylinders as they fire. The “key” for the ignition is a simple switch having only an off and on position. The switch with the black handle surrounding the ignition key is the control for headlights and that switch has “off”, “dim” and “bright” positions. Don’t hitch too much hope to the headlights on a Model T. My dad used to say you’d be better off to poke your finger in your eye and go by star-light. Good luck with your new family fliver. 🥸👍💥✅

If it's a Model T they are real happy at 35 mph if it's a model TT which I believe this one is actually they are real happy at about 20 to 25 because of their gearing.
If you put an overdrive unit on a Model T They will do about 45 happily and you can push them to do about 55.
My point is at those low speeds wind isn't too big of an issue.

@@AtomicReverend Cool. Thanks for your reply. I thought it would be like driving a modern car with no doors on it. I do wonder about the rain and cold - snow and such. I think some of them had modified doors on them or enclosures you could snap in place to keep out the rain and snow.

@@kfl611 If you have never been in a old school hot rod or a Jeep Wrangler (with out the top and doors) or even a old school convertible (when they felt more open because of low back seats low window heights and a lack of safety). Anyways It's a fun experience especially cruising with your friends or your significant other like the 1950s rock and roll musicians used to sing about.
Being that I'm a car guy I've had various different old car makes And when you get into really old cars that are pre-war hot rods or stock you're a rolling car show a model T "C" cab (called that because of the shape of the door opening) draws a ton of attention And it is a weird sensation sitting on a platform without a seatbelt that you can see the ground when you look slightly down but it is also really fun.

@@MattOverDrive That is a Warford Auxiliary transmission. Not a Ruckstell Two speed rear axle. It is a under, straight thru, and overdrive, for the TT. The other gear is over to the right and down ( a lower case "h" pattern). The handle on the ignition switch is the light switch, ON-Off-DIM. The key switch had two contacts, Bat and Mag, but as it has a distributor it will only run on Bat( Turning the key to the left, it is marked).

That’s true for 1926 and 1927 models but the way Henry built them prior to ‘26, the tank was under the drivers seat as in this example. All was well if you had a fair amount of fuel in the tank and if you were driving on level ground. However, going up hill would put the carburetor higher than the outlet in the bottom of the tank and you’d “run out of gas” partway up the hill. Ever resourceful, T drivers quickly learned to turn the car around and reverse their way up the hill, as this would put the carb lower than the tank and the hill could be climbed although at little more than walking speed. 🥸👍

We don't know but its possible. It is a model TT and when you bought it, it just came with the front end and a firewall. you built the rest however you wanted.

Well, not too many years of sitting. A modern distributer and single coil instead of the original four coils and timer. Good wires and hoses … and a carburetor that doesn’t need cleaning.
