Next year ( 2022 ) it will be 100 years old! And still driving on a regular basis, amazing, Nice car and owner.
Hi Barry, That's an good point. Happy to read you think the car & Care Taker are nice :-) Lou
Beautiful car.
It’s absolutely amazing that these cars have lasted over 100 years and are still in very good working condition.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're right, pretty cool this one is still going over 100 years later. Here is one more I think you'll enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/6i8-bSaUk_M/v-deo.html
No wi-fi, touch screens, cameras, rain sensors or heated seats. How did people survive??? This car is a time capsule back to the normal working class guy who had a family and a mortgage. The simplicity of this car is incredible. I love the fact that the owner was also the primary mechanic. Certainly not blinding fast, but this simple little car is an icon of the early auto industry. Interesting video and well done, Lou.
Hi Charles, Happy to read you appreciate "The simplicity of this car is incredible" :-) Have you seen my video series on the "Early Automobile History"? If you watch this 1st video in the series, at the end of the video, there will be a video you can click on to see the next car in the series. Hope you enjoy that, Lou ua-cam.com/video/GY4j9Xf4F7M/v-deo.html
Oh man! My dad told me about how his dad always had him laughing as he would rock in the drivers' seat going uphill as if he was helping the old Model T along its way up the grade. Grandpa died before I was born, but I've seen his pictures and can now fully visualize him doing just that. Getting to know this Model T through you is a blast! Twas a gorgeous work of art when new, obviously - and a little bit complicated, while simple to maintain. Awesome! Dad never said if Grandpa's T was a roadster or not - I am assuming not. In fact it just now occurred to me that Dad passed 4 years ago today. So my visit here is entirely coincidental. Thank you, Lou, for having done this! I always appreciate your content and efforts providing it.
Hi ImTheDaveman, Sounds like Grandpa & Dad had fun memories "Rockin the T" :-) Good story, and you're welcome, Lou
These cars look fragile but they ware made to be tough and reliable
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Dr Gabe. Hope you see many more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
and if taken care of can still run to this day, unlike modern cars
Dr Gabe it’s old
@@hertzwave8001 except for today's Ford vehicles. Today's Ford vehicles are more reliable then model T because ford motor company is still owned and control by ford family who are Henry Ford's great grandkids.
Even before the slogan, it was always built ford tough

The Model "T" started the whole movement of cars, first in the States, then, all over the world, including my country Costa Rica! I have big respect for Mr. Henry Ford and his great idea of making cars for the common man!!!
Indirectly, all of us car fans exist somehow because of this simple, reliable and honest cars, so, we owe to all Model T's a reverence!
This car is the most influential car in history!
Thank you Pablo Cespedes for viewing and sharing your thoughts on this historic car :-) Lou
I have a few of these myself, mostly older. I must compliment the gentleman on the quality of his restoration, it really looks great and correct for date. I have the exact same tool box next to me - I was restoring it this week, The only thing wrong is the spokes were painted black. I like natural better myself. I'm doing a 1917 roadster this year - which involves a lot of searching.
Hi Alex, Happy to read you have some too :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Spokes were always painted black from the factory. Dealers would have replacement wheels that were not painted,
customers would request that the dealer replaced the black wheels with the unpainted spokes. They would later varnish the spokes, and that became very popular.
Tom Greifhahn is a lovely man. Nice Roadster, it is very good in condition. Beautiful to see Tom drive it around. All best wishes to Tom Greifhahn.

That was a treat. I love to see people who can drive these cars well. It takes a knack to drive them smoothly. Thanks.
Hi Todd Wall, You're right, 35 years of driving it makes it look easy :-) Glad you enjoy this one, Lou
T's are magical machines. I never get tired of them.
Close enough to St. Celestine to hear the bells 😀
I haven't ridden my bike in the area since I was 13, and haven't lived in Chicago since '81. I used to ride my bike everywhere.
It's nice to see that the area is still nice. That T is right at home there.
Right place with the right car :-)
This one was AWESOME Lou. I always wanted to know how to actually drive one of these things because I never knew how the 3 pedals worked, as I knew the weren't the same as today's cars LOL. If I wake up in the morning, it's a good day, if I learn something in that day, it's a GREAT day, and you just made it a GREAT day and I thank you for that.
Happy to read your comment Mike Lunn and glad you're having a GREAT day :-) You've made my day better too, Lou
Note the spokes are round, only car to ever do that, but they were turned an a lathe. All others were oval, formed by shaving. Took one of these apart, 100% in 1967. Rebuilt everything and back together. You can tear down and reassemble in about a day if you want to.
HI Toy Man Television, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and adding to the story with your experience :-) Lou
There's a Model T rail car in New Zealand !
David R Lentz, USA
At first I was going to say, “Well, that was interesting” (and it was, as far as that goes), or something to that effect. In truth, it was both delightfully enjoyable (short of experiencing it in person) and immensely instructive. I enjoy building model kits, including vehicles in certain categories; 1) private passenger cars from round the 1920s through to the early 1940s, stock, showroom new and pristine, original parts and paint colour scheme, Mr. Greifhahn, your black 1922 Ford Model T Roadster fits that to a T! 2) tractor trailer rigs and large, work-related trucks, generally from round the 1970s and the 1980s, 3) construction, excavation, etc., vehicles (bulldozer, cement mixer); 3) emergency response conveyances (fire truck, police cruiser, ambulance), all of standard design, with routine wear, road dust, etc. So I like the opportunity to have a close look at the real vehicles (I am very myopic), to find the myriad details-the four small, metallic rings that open the hood, the spark plug wiring-that no amount of book learning can convey.
Thank you, Mr. Costabile and Mr. Greifhahn. Perchance would either of you, or anyone you know, have a 1920s Duesenberg, Lincoln, Packard, Cord, Auburn, Oldsmobile touring car, or the like? I know of kits of these that I would like to build more accurately.
Hi David, You're welcome. If you type into UA-cam search "My Car Story with Lou Duesenberg" or "My Car Story with Lou Lincoln" or "My Car Story with Lou Packard" you should be able to see more cars you enjoy, Lou
This video was invaluable to me as an author--my latest book is set in 1933 and my main character drives a 1922 Ford Model T (I will make it a roadster and use this video as reference!) I had no idea how these cars worked and am so glad to see this detailed video of a running one! Thank you for taking such good care of this car and for sharing it with everyone!

Lord Debring? I'm a American Sir not sure how to address you,My question to you sir Why does the British drive with the steering wheel on the right?
@@gunslinger2172 Before cars and going way back, it was common to always pass others on the left. Reason being you would carry your sword on the right so passing others on the left, you were always able to fight if need be. Some parts of the world just decided to stick with what was standard and common at the time i guess.. im pretty sure some of the very first automobiles in America had the steering on right because it wasnt really known which side was the better way to travel with vehicle.

Greeting`s Lou from Tennessee.Thank you for sharing this because I have found many MODEL T`s on line but this is the first 1922 which was the same year FORD MODEL T.I don`t know if the Roadster that you commented on was larger that a Coupe? My dad & mom moved from Orange City Iowa in 1925.In my dad`s car were my parents,my Uncle Al,my Aunt Hilda. And with all their belonging were also my 3 brothers and one year old sister!! They moved to Grand Rapids,Michigan a distance of 653 miles! I sent this true story to the READERS DIGEST for possible publishing in the LIFE IN THESE UNITED STATES because when they tool Route 20 east to Dubuque,Iowa it had been raining hard all day and when my dad got close to Webster City my da saw a road sign but could not read with the heavy rain,so he stopped the car and my Uncle got out and walked back to read what rhe sign read and it read,WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS MORTON SALT! Memorable trip to say the least!

What a neat Rida along Lou! I love the old model t car. I have a whole outfit that my great grandpa used to drive his car like this back in the day. The leather gloves and had and the glasses and the long coat he wore back in the day for those cars with no windshield. First time I got to see how you shift and drive a car like this. Thanks for sharing Lou!
Hi Steve Flad, Happy to read your comment :-) Thank you for sharing details on your Great Grandpa's outfit too. Glad you came along for the ride :-) Lou
This car changed everything. Before the Model T, cars were like private jets. Only the ultra-rich had them, and they were almost like a novelty. They were expensive to manufacture, and awful to maintain. The Model T made cars cheap to manufacture, and affordable to the emerging middle-class. Now having a car was an achievable goal for most people. They also revolutionized mass production and changed how we made things. It is a marvel of engineering in many, many more ways than one.
Hi Kyle K., Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou

I never had the car, but I do have a complete set of the tools. When I bought my 1st house it was full of the former resident's stuff. The Old Woman specifically dug out the old tool box to tell me what I had there. Some great stories came with them as well. Still have them, my Grandfather looked at them back then and knew exactly what they were and more importantly how to use them. Said he made a few temporary connecting rod bearings and main bearing repairs out of old harness leather. Didn't last long but beat walking or messing with horses which he wanted no part of.

I saw another video before this one where the guy had to use rhe crank outside of the car to start it. In this case it had an electric start, that was much easier. The driving operation was still the same. Cars today are much easier. In my family my uncle talked about my grandfather having a Model T pickup truck. I never saw that it or knew my grandfather. A guy that was a parent of one of my wife's daycare kids had a shop behind his house where he restores Model Ts and Model As. He gave me a tour of his shop and showed me his personal Model T. It was quite interesting. Beyond that the closest I came to owning one was building a plastic1:30 scale Model kit.

Hey Lou. Another awesome video. Nice looking hat Tom Greifhahn is wearing. I have a similar hat of my own. I've seen Model T Fords before. I remember one year there was a rally here in Seattle, Washington, where a convoy of Model Ts drove through every city and town in the country. Whether the rally *started in* Seattle, or whether Seattle was simply one of the places they drove through, I cannot remember. But I remember seeing these vehicles driving through town. I would give drivers either a thumbs up, or sometimes the "peace" sign. For being over 100 yrs old, they seem to run good. :)

tom is a great sport. i"ve seen a few functioning original model 'A's , but a 'T' driving around, with its thirty year owner is a treat. functional as ever, and pretty frugal on fuel, as well. he's sporting an optional full spare on the back, wow! tax tags from '22..

Excellent restoration! I'm glad to see someone who knows how to drive one. With modern gasoline, that car will never ping because it has 4.5:1 compression. Start it at retard, then put it to full advance. That is how you get the most power out of it. I had a '26 Coupe for a while. It was a lot of fun for a Saturday cruise.

I drove past a wooded area and noticed an old black car.. I think I will take a look to see what it is this winter when there are no bugs and leaves on the trees.
Hi JR G, What was it? Lou
America's first true car they cost $500 brand new and back in the day that kind of money was nothing to sneeze at but still very affordable.
Made the freedom of transportation available to all people
When new this car was less than $300. At a time when a worker was earning five dollars a day. Henry Ford believed that a man who is building the car should be able to afford it.
1912 was the first year of electric start. Cadillac was the first manufacture to do so. The Model T was outfitted in 1919.

My 3rd car was a 27 T pickup. Fun truck!!! I was 15 when I bought it. Got my first car when I was 10. Mom was indulgent, what can I say.......
Good times, good times :-)
The weird paint used on these was made from Gilsonite. Heres some back story on that ua-cam.com/video/nJhOJ8eseCs/v-deo.html
Not widely known, the engines were mad in a different plant, and crated and shipped by rail to Dearborn. Henry personally designed the crate!! Why? When taken apart, it became the floor boards!!!
Yep, Henry was quite the innovator when it came to manufacturing and mass production.
ohh what year was that
A great piece of Americana!

When I was young my uncle from Phoenix, he restored cars this era, he came to visit and ending up buying a 1922 Model T. It was what they called a Doctor's coupe. Doctors made house calls back then and behind the seat is where they travelled with their bags. Normally the gas tank is behind the seat but not on this car. Even had what they called a fat man's wheel. Completely original car.

Reminds me of 1947 Fordson tractor engine. I like the term 'backspin' for kick-back.

Love the scenery and all the brick homes too. Would they be Craftsman (Sears & Roebuck) Homes?

These masonry homes were built in the 1920s by a contractor from California his name was John Mills they built about 1000 homes in this area and the homes were complete with a garage, fence. All of the streets and alleys were paved. The street lights were in and the community also had a great school and park.
Amazing

Just a comment about the 'coach lights'; yes, they were used as a running-light in town, but they were also used as a parking light, which in many towns, you had to burn all night long if parked on the street (just on the side where the traffic was). These were acetylene, so they would not run the battery down

My Great Great Grandfather the Father of My Grandfathers Wife bought a New Model T in 2016.. I have a Family photo with it and a Story of how he didn't know how to drive it when he first bought it .. I think he was a Township Treasuer at the timne but then was the Calhoun County Michigan Road Comissoner for many years..
I could send you the photo by e-mail if you are interesrted..
