      I think it's rare to see compassion displayed like this because it's deemed unprofessional for a judge to cry at the bench.
      To say it's rare to see a compassionate judge is naive and unfair.
      It's rare for crimes like this not to affect all the professionals involved and many suffer greatly in silence.

    • @sangellaferro
      @sangellaferro 5 років тому +47

      @@melissab4710 MOST people are brought up to believe that expressing sadness is weak, wrong, etc. We all laugh when something's funny ... why don't we (as easily) respond to our pain? It's truly a blight on our society.
      Crying is a natural physiological response. Tears of pain contain toxins; tears of happiness & joy do not!

      noreen gardner - Well we all look at situations differently. I believe he quoted the perfect verse at the appropriate time. His tears were for the murdered soul and her family. But also for a man that threw his life away. Karma always has a way of coming full circle. Noreen keep in mind when you take the stand. Your ask to speak the whole truth so help you God. So for the judge to quote the Bible is perfect. Ask yourself where the root of your human morals and values stem from. I’ll help you. God and that little book called the Bible

      @Lynette Scribner The judge is bound by "legal sentencing guidelines" passed by our city council, mayor figure, all the way up the National level...our Congress. Vote please. There is only so much, even a good judge like this guy, can do. Bound by the law! So if we want that to change (like me) then we need to vote for people with those kinds of values. People that Share your values! And people that share different or similar value--they need to vote in that person for them.

      @@webdapeeps9015 cry baby? Now I don’t cry myself when hearing of other’s suffering, that doesn’t mean I don’t feel their agony and the horror of the situation, I just don’t react physically because…that’s not how my body works, I suppose. But crying when presented with the intense suffering of other people is a common human characteristic, and one that shows empathy. Empathy is arguably the most important attribute for a judge to have, has how can you effectively asses how a person should be sentenced if you cannot understand the suffering caused and, simultaneously, how the defendant felt/is feeling. Crying for many people is just a result of emotion, and cannot be controlled. It’s not an intentional thing, it’s just a normal response when hearing and feeling the agony of someone else.

He was not like this until I was a teenager, so our early yrs he was a good father but his health issues tore him apart. He had to have both legs amputated at age 40, and a man who does not have his legs, just can't be a normal person. It was a terrible situation. He died at age 47 from massive blood clots. The blood clots is why he lost is legs to begin with. But I miss having a father having his support, and someone I could call and ask his opinion and advise on something. I am right there with you. People react to kill and not have any conscience and be able to live with that?? I think this judge did all he could and even said he had no pleasure in sentencing anyone! Thank you Judge Chasteen!

      @Sylvia Rucker Gods has absolutely nothing to do with it. The jails and and religious institutions are filled with so-called god fearing people who conveniently pick their morals and ethics when it suits them. I don’t believe in gods and therefore hold myself 100% accountable for live a virtuous and good life. No get-out-of jail card for me by stealing, killing, or raping someone, only to believe that some god will forgive me and take away my ‘sins’. I own my sins and the moral debt I might create.

      @seagullseagullseagul I don't know the case personally. I just knew that he hid her body. It didn't say he killed her. He had a dirty secret and he shoulda said something. The McCullough guy was the one that killed her as far as I understood things. He just burned her body and hid it, which is just as bad to not fess up and tell what happened, but he didn't do the actual killing, and once she was gone, she was gone. He didn't have to burn her or hide her remains, but he did, and 25 years sounds firm enough to me!! Some people who tamper with a corpse don't get much time at all. He got what he deserved for not letting them know what had happened to her. Plus at that man's age 25 yrs is probably gonna be a life sentence. So what more do you want?
