Good luck with Atomos support. I've had to deal with them in the past and although they did respond to my emails, they didn't have a clue about the issue I was describing, even though I had a video on UA-cam showing and describing the problem. Cheers, Dave.
If you have really old firmware like i did (16). Update to firmware 17 first. Then update to the latest firmware (10.94.00). Took me a long time to figure this out. You cannot update directly from firmware 16 to 19
I just bought the Ninja V. Could you give me the full numbers of the 16 and 17 firmwares? The thing that confuses me is 16 and 17 are higher than 10, so I'm assuming you are talking about something else. Sorry about my ignorance, I just bought a second hand Ninja V a few hours ago and I never owned one before.
Hey thanks for the information. Question. Does it matter what year ninja v someone has? I seen one for sale and it had a 1920x1200 resolution… but others have 1920x1080. And new to this and I want to purchase one but not sure about certain specs. Will a firmware update change the resolution from old to new? Or should I just buy a newer model?
5:13. (PLEASE REPLY) Hi @David Harry , I have an issue with my ATMOS NINJA V and I thought you would help me out. I recently purchased atmos ninja v but i tried to connect it with my camera but it seems not working. When i turned it on, it shows me a red screen with a circle that say NO INPUT SIGN like the one I saw on your video. Please help me out🙏. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon.
I just bought the Ninja V and still waiting on the HDMI cable. I activated DNx but I can't select DNxHR. Does the 4K camera need to be plugged in to get the DNxHR option?
Hi. On mine I can choose the different codec options without a source attached, although I don’t have the extra DNx or H.265 licenses. They may be different and require a source being attached, maybe for initial activation. If you’re waiting for a special HDMI cable, maybe something short for your camera, assuming your use is for a camera. Just try something else attached with a standard HDMI cable. The output from a computer or something similar will do. This will at least show you your codec options, if they do indeed need a source attached. I don’t have mine to hand but I think your also have to have the drive attached as well for certain options, even when not recording. Cheers, Dave.
@@DavidHarry The cable just came in and yes, a 4K signal has to be connected to prompt the DNxHR option and the related compression variants. Thank you for your prompt answer and great suggestions.
Hi David, thanks for your video.. is it possible to update the firmware of the atomos ninja V with out ssd card? I do have the cable usb to SATA but not the ssd card
Hi Vanessa. No, there is no other way to get the firmware file to the Ninja. You must have some way to copy your video files from your Ninja's SSD to whatever computer you are editing on. Just use that to transfer the downloaded firmware file to the SSD and connect the SSD back to the Ninja. Cheers, Dave.
@@DavidHarryI figured it out! I had to format my SSD from the ninja V in the media section. Then the ninja V realised there was enough space to update it:)
Hi David, I noticed that you opened up the zip file on a Mac or Mac book, have you had to do anything to facilitate that, because I repeatedly get "Cannot open" messages when I download the Zip file to my MacBook. None of the suggested workarounds that appear on the web work for me, so I wondered if you experienced any issues and how you resolved them.
Hi, David. My Mac automatically decompresses the file, I don’t even get to see the compressed file. There is a setting that does this but I can’t remember where it is. Try a Google search for something like “auto unzip download in Safari”. Cheers, Dave.
Thanks for that David. I’m new to the Atomos Ninja. Have you done any videos regarding the setting up of cameras to facilitate external recording. I’m using the Fujifilm X-H2S and having rigged it out I appear to have added a number of failure modes. Having said that I think the problem is my ignorance, but having downloaded the 10.9 firmware I have now activated Pro Res Raw so a step closer!
I bought a second-hand AtomOS ninja inferno, I can’t update it because there is no access to the support site, I have version 8.5, but as I understand it, there is already 10.69, but how can I download it and or how can I get this file through someone and will it fit my AtomOS ninja inferno. please help me please!
Hi. I've never used the Inferno, so don't now anything about it. Have you contacted Atomos support to ask if they can send you the firmware? Cheers, Dave.
After i put the file on the SSD, i started up the Ninja V, and nothing cames up. So then i hold the power button down for 10 seconds and it says "Error Updateing AtomOS there has been an error updayeing your firmware" i just got it and it seems to have factory settinfs still so im guessing its the very first firmware it says its 10.1 anyone have any ideas on what I should do?
Simple yes, fixed no 😂 It still sounds like a bag of turds 😆 To be honest, Tone. I love the Ninja for the Pro Res video recording and how quick I can deal with it as I’m able to plug the drive straight into my Mac, with the cable in this video, and edit straight off the drive without copying it internally if I don’t have time to copy the files. So I’m now considering just using a preamp ahead of the mic input of the Ninja for any directly attached mics. This is far from being ideal as I just want a simple workflow and my Elgato HDMI recorder, which this Ninja is supposed to replace, was fine with a directly attached mic. I would never advise anyone to have to put up with workarounds for any equipment that they’ve just bought that isn’t working as it should. However, I’m probably going to have to capitulate with the Ninja as the video element is speeding up my workflow. I just don’t want the extra mess, preamp, cables etc. When using it with my close V/O mic positions. BTW. The V/O in this video was all done on the ZV-1 with my Sennheiser ME64, my usual boom dialogue mic, plugged straight into the ZV-1’s mic input being about 4 inches away from my mouth and just above my eye-line and as far as I’m concerned it sounds great and it’s a super simple to setup. Also proving that you don’t need dedicated external preamps and audio recorders to get great dialogue recording. Cheers, Dave.
sometimes the updates confuse me about the atomos ninjas,l don't know if they are compatible with all cameras in general l have a canon so the last update talks like it`s from Sony,l don't know if you need to be updating all the time, no matter what equipmentyoui have
I’m not sure but you’d think that updates wouldn’t change anything from previous versions. Although, with most technology, updates do sometimes break things. I personally wouldn’t update if everything is working well unless there’s a new feature that works for your setup. Cheers, Dave.
Hi David, thanks for posting this tutorial even if I'm 2 years late on it! I've just bought the Ninja V second hand and tried to update to the current firmware on the Atomos site. However, when I went to my downloads tab it just shows up as a Document and not a zip file? have you come across this before? Cheers, Michael
Hi, Michael. If the file just shows up without the extension it still may be in its zip format but just not showing that way. So it's worth trying it and seeing if the Ninja accepts it. If you are on a Mac there may be a setting that's automatically un-zipping the zip to its raw file after it's downloaded. I can't remember what that setting is but it may be worth checking for that. HAPPY NEW YEAR. Cheers, Dave.
@@DavidHarry Hi David, thanks for your reply! So I have now fixed the problem. For some reason, when I downloaded the file from the Atomos site using Google chrome it gave me the Zip file but not when I used Safari! Strange but true! I now have firmware version 11.13.00
