As a writer, teacher, and librarian, the last segment killed me. I'm listening to an audiobook and reading another. I'm usually reading multiple books at one time. Reading creates empathy, which enhances listening and critical thinking skills. This country needs it.

Maybe it's the pandemic? I used to like reading science fiction novels, but since the pandemic started, I've stopped. I've picked up the same William Gibson novel a few times then put it down again. It's less fun reading about dystopian futures when you're already living in one.
I’m a non stop reader and the library apps have made it even easier for me! I have a 2 year old who still nurses and for the last 2 years I’ve gotten so much reading done on my phone while I nurse him. It’s great!! I can’t speak to others, I’m always sad people don’t read more. It’s my favorite thing.

I love to read. The last several years I've had difficulty focusing to read. I think stress and over stimulation have much to do with it. I've found audiobooks to be a savior. I receive the full text and story as well as some theatrical emphasis from the reader. It allows me to listen while I cook, do chores and especially on long quiet drives. It can also relax me at bedtime. The only problem is that when someone asks the name of the book I forget because it's not in front of me every time I engage. I remember the stories though.
Yeah, I used to be a voracious reader but suffering from major depression has made it very difficult to concentrate and sapped the joy out of it. These days it’s just too much mental effort. Curse you, depression. 😔

If you enjoy historical fiction I recently listened to one called "The giver of Stars". It was very uplifting and empowering for Women. The historical aspect was really interesting. What ever you enjoy that can distract from negative thoughts and hopefully give you some encouragement. I'll be thinking about you! 💖📖📚

It’s set in Victorian Britain and is a twisty cracker - as evidenced by the fact I actually read it all!
I hope you can get back to reading more too. Getting into in a good book is such a pure pleasure, and it’s horrible to be robbed of that. Stress and depression go hand-in-hand and they definitely impacts one’s ability to concentrate and invest, so I truly empathise. Thank you for thinking of me, and I will think of you too. The fact that people can’t even answer what the last thing they read…not a book but anything…explains so much.😒 I know so many people who never read another book after high school! People *barely* read social media posts fully with many who complain if a post/comment in more than 4 lines long & yet take the time to comment about it being too long & that they refuse to read it.
The fact people flat out refuse to even fully read articles before reposting them…much less fact check or actually research a topic…is *WHY* misinformation spreads so easily! It’s also a big part of how the MAGA party can so easily keep many of their supporter believing all of their lies/conspiracies! People who like/trust the MAGA party leaders simply believe anything they say & don’t do their own research outside of social media posts/videos by others who also believe! But that also now goes for many Democrat voters too.
Hell…even the majority of congress members don’t fully read the bills they vote on!! Adult literacy rates & comprehension levels have been dropping alarmingly for years. Which is great for the government bc the more ignorant & divided a nation is the easier it is for the government to control the people & for those individuals in government to get away with doing whatever they want. 😕😒

Which the fact parents, politicians & others are trying & far too often succeeding in having books banned not only in K-12th libraries but in colleges & even public libraries! Banning most of the targeted books in K-12th is horrible…but getting them banned in college & public libraries should be illegal. Bc college students are adults & MANY college students are paying their own tuition! And public libraries are for *everyone*! Thus no one group or politician should be allowed to dictate what books adults can read or what books parents allow their kids to read! If such insanity is allowed to continue it will only lower the literacy rate & number of adults who read further. 😕

I love that mtgs call for a national divorce includes "they can get abortions even though I don't agree with it". If she's fine with that concept, we could have that now without a national divorce.
