Dion (DiMucci) and the Belmonts were among the pioneers of early rock, coming out of NY as doo-wop singers. Dion was a huge influence on a couple of other notable New York musicians, both Paul Simon and Lou Reed (he's actually performed/recorded with both). He's still around, and he's still singing into his eighties! Check out his big '60's hit, Abraham, Martin and John for a completely different style of song which still resonates today.

Paige Mull Exactly. In 1961 a song about a guy openly admitting he likes to go from woman to woman and doesn’t want to settle down (kissing them and leaving them) and is essentially bragging about it took balls especially at that time period, but still a great song despite the subject matter.
The song was written for his neighbor with all his girl tattoos 9n his body for reminders. As he was in the merchant marines. Dion wrote the song when he was 13 if I recall. As the song says, flo on my left, mary on my right, I tair open my shirt, rosie on my chest. As his neighbor traveled when he got the itch. He put into lyrics so it would connect to ordinary every day life. Dion one of the great writers from his youth to time. As well as a great singer with attitude.

Hey Jamel! Dion DiMucci, and his group The Belmonts, grew up right here in Da Bronx. They started out as a rock n roll group. But Dion split and went out on his own. By the mid-60's, he followed his heart and began to embrace the social change happening in America. His music aligned more with folk music, and he had more hits and a new audience. PLEASE, 60 years later Dion just released a song about Sam Cooke, of whom he was close to. It's a beautiful song that Paul Simon helps out ONLY IN AMERICA
This is a good song for a driving playlist. I think you might also enjoy "Love Potion #9" by the Clovers and "Build Me Up Buttercup" by The Foundations. 2 super groovy songs.
You should react to The Highwayman by the Highwaymen. Fantastic song by a supergroup composed of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson.
Dion is an amazingly personable and generous performer. In the 2000s he put on a free concert during Reno's Hot August Nights event out in the parking lot of the Grand Sierra Resort. During his second set the power went out on the stage. Did Dion and his incredible band freak out? Oh, hell no! He put his electric guitar down and picked up an acoustic to continue the song right where he left off. Needless to say, the crowd went wild. The man is the very embodiment of cool! 😎
Rocknroll had a blend of numerous previous musical traditions, including country, rockabilly, boogie woogie, r&b, blues, and doo wop. Italian-American singers have a strong doo wop tradition, and they fell right into early rocknroll. Dion DiMucci was the biggest of them all. He was on the famous "Tour From Hell" when the plane crash killed Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper.

Always thought it was an interesting commentary that his two most famous songs are this, and "Run-around Sue"
I thank you Jamal for this reaction! One of my all time favorite songs! Though I'm only 44,I love classics and all music genres!
"Seventeen" by Janis Ian - her voice is unbelievable and the lyrics hit an unforgettable emotional note.
Abraham Martin and John ,my all time FAVORITE, you got to love these guys. Thanks for the memories.
What he means is: "I'm a Player...yeah, A Player....I play around...around...around....around...around..."
Dion ain't a player, he just crushes a lot. hahaha
@@tonyplove Nah...Dude is a PLAYER!
@@whazzuphere Hahaha. Capital letters. PLAYER!
Dada🤣
He hugs them and he squeezes them; they don't even know his name, so it's more like: "I'm a prisoner. yeah a prisoner, I'm doin' time, time, time, time, time."
This is the kind of music you heard in the 60s Bronx rollin down the street in a Chevrolet 💪
Run Around Sue would be another great one to check out.
I love watching you when you are really enjoying a song... This is the best channel.
Seeing these oldies...have you listened to The Everly Brothers?Hit after hit with these guy's!
Wake up Little Susie!!
PLEASE, 60 years later Dion just released a song about Sam Cooke, of whom he was close to. It's a beautiful song that Paul Simon helps out
ONLY IN AMERICA
Ha Ha Ha!!! We used to call this "swimming pool music" 'cause that's where we heard it first most times...I love it!
I’ve heard this a million times, and this is not how I pictured Dion! Great growl in his voice.
This is a good song for a driving playlist. I think you might also enjoy "Love Potion #9" by the Clovers and "Build Me Up Buttercup" by The Foundations. 2 super groovy songs.
Damn precious old school song! Hell, what more can I say! Thanks Jamal!
You should react to The Highwayman by the Highwaymen. Fantastic song by a supergroup composed of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson.
I can't hear this song without hearing raiders yelling about "Is someone there?!" And frag grenades exploding in my head
Gil-scott Heron - the bottle is a fantastic song as well.
Yes!
Anything by Gil is good... Hope he gets into his discography
I love that song. That flute intro is badass.
Dion: I'm the kind of guy who likes to roam around
Also Dion: Stay away from Runaround Sue
Me: ...
Karma :)
@@daverhoden445 runaround sue happened first
You need to please react to Del Shannon's Runaway it was done in the early 60's.
Dion just released a new album a week ago.
Dion wasn't just a wanderer, he was a player.
2/25/21 New Orleans
Rock n Roll baby! During that era it was all about music and dancing! Literally! We danced every chance we had. Those were fun days and good music. Enjoy watching your reaction. But really, those were the best days of times! The oldies will always live on
If you're gone old school, and I know you love a good story, check out Down in the Boondocks by Billy Joe Royal. Pretty sure you will love it
He drove parents crazy like Twisted Sister did in the 80s.
