- How to Become a Professional Mermaid - 6 EASY STEPS TO BEING A MERMAID PERFORMER! ♥ How do I become a professional mermaid? Years ago, this would have been a VERY silly question to ask. It is a question that I asked myself back in 2016... and I couldn't be happier that I did! Want to be a professional mermaid or merman too? Watch this video and find out how YOU can go about becoming a mermaid performer. This video and the content linked (see below) will help you easily navigate the waters of pro merm life AND will also help you decide which path is best for you.
On that note, remember that becoming a professional mermaid means that you are on the path to becoming a business owner. Therefore, it is important to not only watch this video, but to also dive deeper into the world of entrepreneurship. Watch videos on this topic, seek the help of business professionals in your area and consider looking for a mentor to help guide you through this (sometimes) difficult route. Being a business owner is VERY fun and rewarding, but know that EVEN being a professional mermaid can be challenging and frustrating at times. ♥
Please don't set your expectations too high for this career path, as most professional mermaids (myself included) are NOT full-time performers. Most do require "real jobs" to help pay the bills and put food on the table.Think of this as a fun "side hustle" that can help give you some extra cash while having fun and working towards financial freedom.

@@mermaidzoephiahart My suggestion for you would be to first... get a silicone tail. Most fairs require that you have one as a mermaid. And second, reach out to the pod of mermaids in charge of the fair you'd like to work at and see if they may have a place for you at the fair. Sometimes, pods like mixing things up to have a new rotation of mermaids each week to keep patrons interested in coming back to see the new creatures each week. ♥ You should *never* go directly to the fair and ask for work if they already have a performing pod of mermaids though. That could result in costing someone their job as a mermaid, which... sucks. :(

Hehehe! Yes! The forest trail I was hiking was RIGHT next to a shooting range 😂 Lightning may have been more dangerous, but it is for sure preferred. 😉 I hope they weren't too annoying!

Wow this was perfectly on time! Especially when next year is my senior year and I’m going to have to decide which college classes are best to take - I have so many cool and amazing future jobs I have in mind that I would want to do when I grow up and becoming a professional mermaid is one of them!
I'm so glad it came just in time for you! Senior year is a tough time, since there is so much pressure put on seniors to "know what to do with their life" upon graduating. 😶 I know you aren't there yet, but I hope you'll remember that when senior year does come that you really don't have to put that much pressure on yourself to "figure it all out" in that instant. Most of us still don't have things figured out well beyond graduation. ♥ I'm glad you're already thinking about the future though. That's awesome!! Very dramatic and educational Phantom ty. I want to be a teaching Mer. I have early childhood education background as well as a love and deep understanding for the ocean. So getting into my tail and going to schools would be my dream. Along with performing in our downtown aquarium during 'field trip season'.

I have always liked mermaids since I was little. I wanted to be a marine biology when I was a little kid. When I was 10 and 12 I had two strokes. It affected my right side. My granddaddy told me about Blackbeard how he was killed at the coast. I have learned more about pirates, maritime history. I just found out that sailing is great for handicap. So I would like to be a merman talk about marine life, maritime history, and live on a sailboat. 🧜♀️🧜♂️🦈🐋🐠🐟

You are so adorable! I love that your Goth! I’m a tad dark myself a Siren not a Disney Mermaid so I’m happy to see someone more like myself.... I’m working on becoming a professional Mer/ Siren . I’ve been a Mermaid/ Siren for years but only personally. It’s awesome to see different aspects of this work. This video was very helpful and answered a lot of my questions! If I may ask as a beginner is it ok to start off by volunteering at events as a mermaid? This past summer I volunteered at a comic con and made a appearances at the brown trout fest. I volunteered at the NOAA Thunder Bay sanctuary the week before Halloween. I’m only 20 going on 21 in Jan so I’m young and haven’t learned about running a business yet but hopefully I’ll learn in the future!

Volunteering is certainly something you *do* need to do before you can justify charging for events, however... make sure you're only volunteering at events that are non-profit or for friends or family. Otherwise, you will be taking potential jobs from your fellow mersisters, since companies will always pick free work over paying a mermaid to work.
That said, don't beat yourself up if you've done this in the past. We've all made mistakes... including myself. >.
