I love the fact that it’s Ke Huy Quan’s debut movie. A full circle moment when he hugged Harrison Ford on stage.

In the Indiana Jones comics, Indy was so horrified about what happened, that when he and Shorty got back to the States, Indy adopted him and sent him to boarding school. Shorty then goes onto college to become an archeologist himself and you see him sometimes on digs with Indy. Spielberg has said he now wishes he'd brought him back again, especially because Mangold had no interest in doing so. But that he likes the idea of the comics and Shorty on his own archeological digs, even if we don't see him. So just think, he's around, but he has his own shit going on. So they're probably calling and letter-writing.

Would love for them to give him a short series, just maybe a fun adventuring, lighthearted kinda thing as a grownup character, maybe from in the comics universe or smth! would make sense after all the success his actor has had lately, he deserved to be brought back for more films! Maybe it could be like a more family appropriate spin on adventure films like this one w none of the nasty orientalism stuff

Also can we just talk about how much star quality ke Huy quan has. This is his film debut and to me, he’s my favorite of the sidekicks because he holds his own. He even has his own heroic musical score. And my favorite clip right now is his mini reunion with Harrison ford on the red carpet for dial of destiny because Harrison was clearly over it in the interview and instantly lit up when ke gave him a hug.

Amrish Puri (the priest) is like the national villain of Indian movies 😂 he has done so many villainous roles in so many movies it's not a surprise that he got a villain role in a Hollywood movie as well 😂😂😂

One time in college, a professor asked the class what our favorite action movie was. I said this one, and they looked at me funny and said it was racist. I went back and rewatched and... yeah. Nostalgia is one hell of a drug, and privilege blinds. @@PinkPopcast The lore is that the "Indian" food was supposed to be weird, bc it's not actually Indian food, but rather the food that the Thuggee eat, which is what got Indy on that track to begin with. It's also why the British army guy knew to get his men towards the end, bc he also recognized the Thuggee cuisine. The movie leaves that part out, to its detriment.

    - [Removes her earring] This is a Calisto Pulse. It can disarm micro-explosives from 20 feet.

13:18 nah I don't think it's about depicting other cultures as "weird" or "gross" because this is obviously NOT Indian food. This is Temple of DOOM and it's pretty obvious as soon as they arrive that something is off inside the palace so the food is reflecting that (food of... Doom), it's also a foreshadowing of what is yet to come later in the movie.

Yeah, I was never a big Indiana jones person growing up and rewatching it that scene was just awful. I mean, considering the number of people who still believe that Asian cultures eat unspeakable things it’s not for nothing, either.

I just.. I never.. I've never actually seen the second Indiana Jones apparently. I just kept thinking "this is pretty much the worst video ever made" in Napoleon Dynamites voice.
Not your reaction though you guys are always great and I love Dr. Rizzo

13:03 - plenty of ethnocentrism here, with a dash of xenophobia, but mostly orientalism. Hooray!
EDIT: perhaps we shouldn't judge a film too hard for their utter lack of cultural research when the main character says, "As a scientist..." like, 10 times but is never actually depicted _doing _*_research_* .

Wait this is the least liked indy movie? This ones my favorite. This like when I found out that ppl didn't like Jar Jar Binks even though I liked him as a kid.
Also I love how in the indiana jones lego video game they gave Millie the power of breaking glass with her screams

Am I watching the Nostalgia Critic? Who trashes a movie the whole time and then claims they loved it in the last 60 seconds of the video?

We’re not robots, we’re allowed to have nuanced opinions. Also when am I trashing it? In this video I clearly love the music, short round, action, story, vibes, cinematography, absurdity, stunts, behind the scenes tidbits, inspirations, jokes, performances etc. - do I like the problematic depictions of South Asian culture? No. Do I think Willie is a little loud an annoying? Sure. But we’re allowed to enjoy this movie our own way and if you don’t like it… keep commenting cause you’re giving us engagement 😘😘😘

@@PinkPopcastIt kinda wouldn’t be Indiana Jones if the bad guys weren’t cartoonish two dimensional portrayals of evil. It would be difficult to pay homage to the original serials without a healthy dose of xenophobia. Although I don’t think that’s exclusive to western media. All cultures have a tendency to do this to outsiders. It doesn’t really bother me here. In the end the movie does portray the villagers as normal innocent people who have been victimized by this crazy death cult. Not an entirely unknown occurrence in the world. I take the “problematic” things in this one with a grain of salt.

Great commentary as always. Can’t wait for the Last Crusade, also my favorite IJ film. It’s so interesting to read about what state of mind Lucas and Spielberg were in at the time they were making this film and how it affected the tone. I also always wondered why he did not take Willies heart. Now I realize “she’s a main character “ 😄😄😄

There is only one scene that most people pure and continuously do not like seeing the most in Indiana Jones 2 is you will know what it is.
So traumatising to most people including myself meaning that cruel scene! 🫣🫣🫣
