My workplace doesn’t allow employees to wear costumes on Halloween. I didn’t see this movie as a kid, so when I saw it as an adult and heard that line, I realized the joke was on my workplace
If I had a nickel for every time a female character in an Addams Family movie tried to manipulate the susceptible and child-like Fester Addams into killing him and keeping his money I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice right?

Well technically on this one he is being manipulated for his special abilities in causing pain while easily taking a lot of pain.and enjoying it. The money they Think there stealing is from the Addams family not from her "son"
Apparently Gomez is allergic to roses? Specifically the pollen? So Morticia grows them but cuts the heads so they cant hurt him ❤ There's a fan cannon that the Addams are cursed to be alnost impossible to kill. If thats true and theyre aware of it, it would make sense they decided to learn how to accept and love each other to make living their long lives enjoyable.
The best explanation I’ve heard is that she’s growing thorns and roses are in the way

@@PinkPopcastThat was the explanation given in the 1964-66 TV series -- which is also very worth watching. Though in that series, Fester was Morticia's uncle, not Gomez's brother.
@@bobbuethe1477they seemed to have switched the family relations in this movie to make fester related to gomez and grandmama related to morticia. i like fester being her uncle, it’s slightly more outside of the norm to have your uncle live with you and your family.
I always thought that the males in the family had invulnerability. That’s why morticia would be so nonchalant about what Wednesday did to her brother. Huh 🤔
4:22 I think it's more that she's going through the process of growing thorns, and like any gardener cuts away anything that's not good for them. In the tv show she revelled in how much larger and sharper the thorns were that year but also lamented that no matter what she did those pesky red flowers kept growing.

I also heard someone say that Gomez is allergic to the flowers and that was part of it. They did say which version this cam from. I do remember him being sickly in the flashback episode of the old black and white where they met but Im not positive if an allergy to flowers was part of it.
Is it me, or for a family obsessed with darkness, ghoulishness and explosives, are they Addams's more alive than half the families we see in TV shows and movies? They're certainly a lot happier and much more supportive than half the families in movies and TV shows.
That was the whole point of their creation and design. To subvert the "normal family", so it ended up with a dark family but alos with a supportive and tight one. It was also criticizing how "bad" and not in love regular families are

Morticia and Gomez are actual couple goals. Seriously name another fictional couple that are so completely enamored with each other but are also loving (at least in the most loving in terms of trying to comedically kill each other) and supportive parents. Rest in Power Raul Julia, you rocked the role of Gomez.
I think my favorite line in the movie is “Mr Addams, please stop calling, we don’t know where they meet!”

In the series from the 60s it is actually well explained (why they do so much deadly things to other people):
They can not die from those things, so they do not realize that humans are more fragile. It's just not something they seem to understand.
I don't really remember what they actually were (I think Morticia was from a family of witches or vampires, something like that).
The whole theme is actually that they are a family of mythical beings that moved into a human neighborhood.
I think you're confusing them with The Munsters. It was a TV show on at the same time in the 60s, and it's whole premise was about a family of monsters (the wife is a vampire) who live trying to be an average American family.
I was a fan of the Addams Family TV series, but I don't remember any of that. I agree that you're probably confusing them with "The Munsters."

Regarding the roses I believe Morticia cuts off the blooms because Gomez is allergic to roses. So she destroys them for him. I believe Morticia actually enjoys roses.
And there is technically a third that we don’t talk about called Addams Family Reunion I believe with Tim Curry as Gomez.

To me, that wasn’t the best reason, when I’ve heard it but I was recently told that Morticia is growing thorns and roses are getting in the way which to me the perfect Addams reason😂😅

Idk how many times I have watched this since the early 90s. 😂 I wanted to be Mortica as a kid but as a I aged, Wednesday became my soul character. ❤ Angelica Houston and Raul Julia are the perfect Mortica and Gomez, next to the original actors. I cannot see anyone else. They didn't hit the right spot with the family reunion, but that was my brother's favorite one. I prefered the first two but anything Addams is up my alley! ❤ Almost time to watch the originals too.

They did make a 3rd movie with mostly different actors. It didn't do well. It's prosbably funnier...if you haven't seen the first 2. In *Addams Family Reunion* the cast is:
Gomez - Tim Curry
Morticia - Darryl Hannah
Lurch - same actor
The rest are pretty much people I've never heard of.

I don't remember. Didi they ever explain in this movie how it was possible for Fester to have fallen into the hand of the conwoman and how she convinced him he was her son?
In the end they explain that Fester really did wash up on shore with amnesia. She took advantage by convincing him he was her son.
See when saying that Gomez Nd Morticia are so romantic, people these days use that word only related to ..well... Romance and affairs of the heart but Romanticism as a movement in arts and literature in 18th century included a lot more. Basically after enlighenment had promoted classicism and realism and the rise and popularisation of science , reason and rationality as worthy pursuits, came the industrial revolution which in several ways demystified nature and dehumanised plenty of social practices so romanticism while grounded more to medievalism than classicism, acted as a counterbalancing wave towards equilibrium, glorifying nature and individualism championing in a way eccentric quirky behaviour and interests as an expression of anticomformism and individuality and yearned for the mystique and magic of folk tales, imaginative storytelling , existentialism , emphasizing stronger expression of emotions as a reafirmation of life and had also a huge fascination with death. Motives one sees a lot in Adams Family franchise. Especially on the parents.
