I am weird, but I separate these types of films into separate (sub-)categories - music films and musical films. I would call this film a music film. When the characters are "aware" of their singing, usually because at least one of the characters is a musician or a singer, I consider it a music film. When the characters are not "aware" of their singing and it does not directly affect others or the plot, I call them a musical. They sometimes do overlap, but are generally overwhelming one type. I call 'Julie and the Phantoms' a music show even though it has a performance that I would consider fully a musical moment (Julie's performance throughout the school that is happening in her head while she is listening to music through her earbuds).

"One of my line dances" Implying multiple. Love it. Benji's wedding party gets invited to a retreat beforehand but it is actually a dance boot camp to make sure everyone is on point.

I love that Benji says "a guy you've known for two weeks" as if they didn’t know each other from childhood before she moved to California.
Part of the fantasy is that he reminds her of who she used to be and connects her to her roots of before the fame. He is a symbol of "what is important": being able to do what you love while being true to who you are and not hurting the ones you love.
It's childhood friends to lovers but also he takes care of your horse that you left that barely recognizes you.
Yeah, she knew him as a kid but as an adult, she only knew him for two weeks. Just cause someone knew you from childhood doesn’t mean they’re entitled to comment on your adult life, people grow up and change and that’s OK. Her revealing the secret wasn’t gonna help her friends or family, it’s just gonna make her a full-time celebrity which is gonna make it even harder for her to spend time with them. He had no right as someone who is not a part of her family or her every day life to make her feel guilty about the choice that she made to protect herself, and her loved ones.
They didn’t even recognize each other when they met at the beginning so clearly they weren’t even that close to begin with 😄
I always saw it more as him being upset that she used Hannah to get info out of him, coax him into asking Miley out, then constantly bailing on her date. I didn’t think he was mad at her lying to him and not sharing a secret.

When i was a wee lass during the famed early 2000s, i was gifted a Hannah Montana merch wig. I looked crazy but i loved that thing. It was hot, itchy, consistently matted and the best thing to happen to 6 yo me since rainbow wellies. I looked indistinguishable from cousin itt. It was the cause of the first major argument in the relationship between me and my mother. See, she thought id nail my Abba cover in music classes without it and i did not. She won, I went without and bombed. That wig and i were inseperable for months after. It is now lovelingly called "the first signs of your anxiety disorder" by my therapist and "foundational character building" by me.

Musical movies are like this one - it is an integral part of the movie but it doesn’t really story tell
Movie musicals are like Singin in the Rain or Mamma Mia where the music is used to actually tell the story and contribute to the actual dialogue

Wow this took me back 🤣 from what I remember of this point in time was how annoyed I was that this movie and the ending season/s of hannah montana had nothing really to do with each other. I can also distinctly remember thinking that her heart didn’t seem to be in it anymore either - at least in the later seasons that becomes more prevalent.
