I do really appreciate that y'all called out the "Advanced ancient civilizations not in Europe couldn't possibly be because indigenous people were smart! It had to be aliens!" plot for being racist garbage, because unfortunately there are people out there who believe that bs, and it deserves to be called out for what it is. Loved this reaction, as always!
Or maybe it had absolutely nothing to do with race and Lucas and Spielberg were trying to pay homage to 1950s B movies that depicted aliens. I understand the criticism the movie gets, but claiming that Lucas and Spielberg were being racist in their depiction of Mesoamericans is very far fetched.
@questioneverything9606 their intentions doesn’t excuse results. deep seeded prejudices exist and “advanced aliens being the only reason non-European cultures progressed” is one of them… even tho I LOVED Spielberg and Lucas
In no way does the movie imply that “advanced aliens were the only reason non-European cultures progressed”. Please present your evidence other than the fact that Mesoamericans were non-European and that there were aliens in the movie.
No, Ancient Aliens is bullshit either way@@questioneverything9606
I mean, they're right about it but one thing is make a sewer system, and making a crystal skull is a whole other thing. Like bruh that's just imposible (I don't say aliens did it but it's one of those things that just don't have an explanation for it)
When the fridge gets launched after the explosion, I couldn't resist saying "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" 🤣
I Bet Wooldoor Sockbat Would Join You On That Too
2:16
Rizzo I’m right there with you when it comes to practical effects vs CGI; my absolute favorite thing is when CGI is used sparingly to enhance practical effects as opposed to replacing them altogether
🙌🙌🙌
CGI is here to stay, until Hollywood finds a new way to utilize special effects. Live with it.
@@juanitajones6900 Just because we have to live with CGI doesn't mean we have to like it
@@eleven-hopper I don't care how you feel. And I doubt that you care about my opinions.
@@juanitajones6900 i don't. i'm just stating something that most people would agree with
Did you notice that the scene where Mutt breaks the sculpture was a callback to Indiana and his father in The Last Crusade? Where his father was looking at him dissaprovingly from the side car? Lol
Yes! I was too busy reminding Benji who Marcus Brody was to call that out though
My favourite part to recreate is Cate Blanchett going “I WANT TO KNOW!”. IDK why but that cracks me up every time.
An excerpt from Indy 4 behind the scenes:
Spielberg:I don't want to do another alien movie
George Lucas:These are not aliens, they're interdimensional beings
Spielberg: What do they look like?
Lucas:They look like aliens
😂😂
I mean, if interdimensional beings _do_ exist they're propably not going to look like humans or other Earth animals
I remember years ago, after this movie came out, reading some article on a movie site that went like -
"If anyone could survive a nuke by hiding in a fridge, it would be Indy."
And damn it if I don't feel that in my heart.
😂😂
3:52 Rizzo saying “that’s a wild plot” to Benji’s guess knowing fully well this movie is about aliens
I had to say SOMETHING lolol
Indiana Jones has always been camp. This film really matched the tone.
Since you guys are on an adventure/treasure hunt kick. Y’all should do National Treasure the movies AND the series
Omg that would be fun!
When that one dude in the cemetery screamed as he jumped down, it reminded me of R2-D2’s scream from Star Wars
Is anyone even aware that Crystal Skulls is really a take on 1950s B-movies? All of the elements are there - the Cold War paranoia, Communism, the study of psychic abilities, nuclear power and even aliens. In fact, one brief scene featured an ATOMIC CAFE sign. Since the movie is set in 1957, this makes since. What would not have made sense is a take on 1930s serials in a movie set in the mid to late 1950s. Also, I love the dynamics between Harrison Ford, Shia LaBouf and Karen Allen. And I especially love that opening sequence.
Spot on! The historical and narrative themes get heavily overlooked by the goofy stuff that everyone just labels the movie “bad.” It’s an excellent film if you don’t overanalyze its unrealistic moments that every Indi film is known for having.
@@badhbts Exactly. Even the other Indiana Jones movies have scores of unrealistic moments. Hell, "Raiders" had an entire Nazi regiment roaming around 1936 Egypt without any political consequences. How's that for lack of realism?
It's still bad though. Everything after the bike chase scene is pretty hard to watch. I don't hate the movie but it was a disappointment.
@@Renoistic It wasn't to me. I was never disappointed by it all. And I still prefer it over "The Last Crusade". I haven't seen "Dial of Destiny" yet.
Indiana Jones and Benjis’ revenge on Rizzos’ interjections during the High School Musical Trilogy.
Hahaha yes!!
So this lore is based on the Nazca Lines in Nazca, Peru. I’ve been there (flew over them), they’re real, and so are the elongated skulls (obviously not crystal). I think it was an ancient beauty standard, they wrapped babies’ heads so they would grow tall and sort of pointy.
Whoa that’s so interesting
Yeah. The lore in this is on par with the lore in other movies. I feel like people just disliked it because it went "aliens" instead of "religion/mysticism".
Oh man, the ant scene is one of many scenarios I've been in/seen in TV/movies that have made me have a phobia of ants for awhile growing up
I love this movie because some of my favorite tropes are in it, like, "kid you didn't know you had" and "getting back together years later" etc. And really, is surviving a nuclear blast in a fridge and interdimensional beings really the most unbelievable things in all of these movies?? :D
Yes! Gotta do Rocky, Back to the Future, Terminator, Die Hard!!! A couple of these you only need to do the first episode. And ET?!😊
Lolol
Honestly, this is one of my favorite Indiana Jones movies, mainly because I love the sci-fi twist they included in the movie (and I'm a huge sucker for sci-fi stuff). Love your reaction, guys!! :D
ahh sudden Macklemore! 🤣
Moose and squirrel. EXACTLY
😂
The Parent Trap is my all-time favorite movie, so the sword fight audio was *chef’s kiss*. Hope you react to that one someday. 😊
🙌🙌🙌
Benji being on brand for the channel 💖
Always! Lol
@@PinkPopcastHow about you and Benji review Mission Impossible
I enjoyed this movie. Seen it a couple times on tv. Was crushing on Shia Lebeouf as a teen
I spent years waiting for new Indiana Jones and I got Shia and aliens.
I just found this channel and love you guys so much! I'd really love to see a nimona reaction from you, it's been my favorite movie of this year
you know what? i’m liking the mustache rizzo 🤔
Don't mind me I'm just here for young shia labeouf
The third one is my favorite, but I have to admit I like this one more than the first two. I never understood the hate. People called it unrealistic when there was soooo much unrealistic stuff in the first 3 in the action. And I think another reason is because they went the "alien" route instead of the "ancient religion" route for the first time. But this has as much basis in "real" lore as the the other movies. The crystal skulls concept has been around for decades before this movie. Stargate even had a whole episode around it in 2000. And I love alien/sci-fi stuff. So between the action fitting right in with the rest of the movies and a sci-fi twist this rose to the top. What pushed the third into first place is Sean Connery and that father/son dynamic with one of them being a bookworm and the other being the action hero.
Rizzo’s sex appeal been on a steady incline since day 1
Thank you 😎
I'm so happy you watched all of these. The terminator movies would be a fun next set of movies
... all of them? ALL of them?
In Cate’s defense, that’s not a Russian accent. That’s an Eastern Ukrainian accent 🤪
it never gets old hearing Rizzo hum the theme song!😂🥰
Die hard is the way to go!!! Loved y’all’s reaction as always. Don’t let Benji have the whip if you guys go on an Indie adventure. You’ll live longer. ❤😂😊
Oooh! Die Hard next, please! Unless you wanna save it for Christmas
Y'all should watch back to the future 😂
Lol, yes, please watch more “boy“ movies! Benji’s comments and reactions are hilarious.
😂😂 you got it 👌
I'm sure it's been said, but you can't start Die Hard until Christmas.
Thanks for doing the Indiana Jones series (even this one); your reactions are always joyful to watch. I amost put down my wine glass to type this.
I unapologetically love this movie
Love you guys!! to give you an honest comment, as a Peruvian this was such a terrible explanation of our culture, the typical thing that every south american country is like Mexico -_- no offense to Mexico because is a lovely country but the lack of knowledge of the difference was catastrophic
Did we do a bad explanation? We definitely realize this film had a bad depiction regardless, and called it out as such!
@@PinkPopcast Thank you for the message :D great! we share the same impression from this movie
Also have y’all ever watched Van Helsing from the 2000s? Such a fun and silly movie
Absolutely LOVE that movie..not a huge fan of the ending lol but still a forever favorite
@@PinkPopcast I have the same sentiments! Plus awesome use of CGI and Practical and some of my favourite Blooper reels.
I'll cast my vote for Terminator and Die Hard. I spent the pandemic catching up on all the uber-masculine, straight-boy classics I'd spent my life avoiding, and I can confidently say Die Hard and Terminator 2 are masterpieces. (Taxi Driver can kick rocks.)
Nice haha good to know!
Saw this in theaters when I was 9 and I loved it. Has its issues but it’s just so fun!
As much as I love this franchise, I've never seen this. I enjoyed watching it with them. It was dumb as rocks though.
omfg please do the die hard movies!
These were so fun to watch you guys react. Do either of you like Mission Impossible? It could be fun to do those.
Yes! We just saw the new one and loved it
Perhaps a little leftover ooomph from the Grail saved him? 😬
Probably lol
This movie was directly inspired by The History Channel. #TreasureWasKnowledge
During the 1950s, Errol Flynn (Robin Hood; assorted pirate movies) and Guy Williams (Zorro on TV at that time) were stars of popular swordplay/swashbuckling franchises. That's where Spielberg got some of his ideas for Shia's character.
I love rewathcing this right after the other videos because you can see the subtle nudges to the kid and Indie being related. And how it mirrors Indie and his father relationship.
I like this movie mainly because I love that Indy is now in the dad position and going on an adventure with his son and of course I love that Marion returns because I love her as well as her and Indy because they're cute.
You'd think with all the 'bedtimes stories' Indiana has heard, he'd have a better relationship with his dad thru the years. Lol, jk
Oh my god that’s hilarious and so true!
He probably didn't hear them from his dad. He mentioned earlier about running away from home and being with Pancho Villa. I read that his family traveled a lot. He probably heard stories from people he met whenever he ran away.
omg pls do a top gun video. that immediately became one of my fave drunk movies bc it's so ridiculous in every way (why are they always sweating?? why is tom cruise playing beach volleyball in jeans?? why does the dramatic, emotional scene after *the thing* take place while he's in undies for no reason??) but it's absolutely hilarious
😂😂
Thank you so much for this, I was just thinking I would have to rewatch one of the other three Indiana Jones videos during my lunch break,, I'm loving the content guys:)
Marion is the best part of this movie.
2:00 love a good Rocky and Bullwinkle reference.
Btw you guys should do a reaction of the movie from 2000. That could be fun
22:19 I’ll Be Home For Xmas reference!!
❤️❤️😂
Could y’all do The Evil Dead series of movies!? They’re such fun watch throughs, and the newest one just came out so it’s trendy. Start from the beginning /from release date. Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, Evil Dead (2013 remake), and then Evil Dead Rise!
I would love to see you guys do at least the first Rocky, it's a genuinely great film in addition to being a boy movie
1:45 I don't know if it's a case of fading into British as more someone impersonating an English accent because they were taught English by someone from England - that or because some words in English have a similar tone
You guys should totally watch Holes movie. Love that movie and the book.
"I keep forgetting it's not modern day."
How? How do you forget that after 4 or 5 movies?
I know, right?? - Rizzo
Lol Indiana Jones is our Bill Nye of archaeology/history
Exactly!!
13:00
It was propably originally written in a language that wasn't english (propably spanish or some south american language) where it might have rhymed. Though it's a riddle and not a poem, so it might never have rhymed.
her russian actually does make sense (as in, grammatically correct and the stressed syllables are where they're supposed to be). the issue is that she has an accent that a native speaker would not have. the russian characters in hollywood movies almost always sound like they learned russian later in life, even though the character is supposed to have been born in russia. they really think no one will notice (i will)
Interesting! Is there an example of an actor who did this well?
@@PinkPopcast i'm sure someone's done it well, i just can't give an example since i don't watch western movies as much anymore (let alone those with russian characters). it does seem like every time i've heard someone convincing they turned out to be native speakers or people from countries whose languages sound similar to russian. really just proves the idea that hiring natives speakers would be easier for everyone involved: the actors would have to do less and it would sound better to those who actually speak the language. anyway, wish i could answer your question and i hope you didn't mind my little rant :)
I was hearing that the aliens didn’t just visit the Americas. They visited all civilizations. They just ended up getting stuck in South America. That is why all the treasure in the temple was from different places on earth.
Please watch the terminator movies :)
bruh i was listening to the video thinking "man i havent watched this in a while but did this movie really rip off the same music for the fencing scene as the parent trap??? i feel like i wouldve remembered that" 😑 yall got me with that one.
Lol we always gotta make our references
@@PinkPopcast as you should! 😂 lol thanks for the reply! love yalls videos ❤️
Oh my gosh, PLEASE react to Terminator (1 & 2, skip the other ones) and Die Hard! Kindergarten Cop might be a fun one too!
BOY MOVIES! 🍿
Why did I just notice that in the movie she quote the Hindu holy book Bhagavad Gita “Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.” Which for in the future Oppenheimer famously quotes after the atomic bomb
2:04 Thats A Good Fearless Leader Impression
I've watched all 4 vids, i loved them! Greetings from Argentina
I don't remember much about this movie, but I do remember enjoying it when I saw it at the cinema, it's just a fun ride, like all Indiana Jones movies! Plus I love Harrison Ford 😄
I'm too late D: i forgot about the premier.
I went to see the new movie last night. It was better than i expected (and better than this one) but there were a few things that i think could have been better. Overall a really good film though :))
Missed the live. Looking forward to this reaction.😂
Loved all of your Indiana Jones reactions, it’s been so much fun❤️ lol while watching I was gonna bring up how I’d love for you guys to react to the mummy movies with Brendan Fraser, but then you guys started referencing it and that got me laughing and made me happy, that’s one of my favorite adventure movies. And lol yeah I think we’d all be Jonathan from the mummy if we were on a treasure hunt, I always say at least put a little treasure in your pockets😂 anyway speaking of combining practical effects and CGI, my favorite show that did this was “the dark crystal age of resistance”, it was so good but unfortunately got cancelled😭 I keep hoping they’ll bring it back. But honestly if I had to pick, I’d definitely pick practical effects. Practical effects always feels more magical and I love the idea that I can actually touch it, kinda like how they use practical effects for the first jurassic park movie. Anyway I don’t know about die hard because I never watched it and I barely remember terminator. But here’s some other ideas, I have no idea if you guys watched these, if you want action then maybe “independence day” but if you want comedy then “galaxy quest” or if you want something emotional “fried green tomatoes”. But I still hope you guys watch “goonies”, “back to the future” or “spider man into the spider verse”.
watching these reactions makes me realize the parallels to National Treasure 🤔
Recommended commentaries: Zenon: Girl of the 21ST Century, The Descent, The Skeleton Key.
Edit: not commentaries, reactions. Lol
41:41 is this the same church from the wedding in the Birdcage with Nathan Lane and Robin Williams?
Rizzo same!! I think I'm part of the small small group that loves this movie just as much as the others lol the ending is kinda...I don't know strange but it's Jones! Tho I am stoked to see the new one.
Benji now i want a crossover with Indiana and Rocky and Bullwinkle!
😂😂
oooh...you guys should TOTALLY watch John Carter of Mars!
I feel like people were way too harsh on this movie when it came out. Yeah it has problems (the biggest one being the racist implications of aliens behind behind the indigenous culture's advancements, as you pointed out) but the biggest stuff I saw people complaining about was stuff like Indy's son, the idea of passing the torch, the monkey scene, and the jokes. The action sequences were pretty fun! The overuse of CGI was frustrating. I've definitely seen far worse movies. I don't think it deserves its reputation as one of the Worst Franchise Movies Ever.
As for y'all watching "boy movies" ... I'm here for your reactions to anything tbh, subject matter isn't as important to me as the dynamic between you two and your jokes.
Terminator definitely...
oh we NEED to see the die hard reaction (idc abt the sequels but i wanna see the og)
woild love to hear your thoughts on the new Indiana Jones film
9:06 Either MacCarthyism or J Edgar Hoover's influence - would normally say McCarthyism but I don't know if he had anything to do with the FBI which was still under Hoover's control.
Have you seen Cowboys and Aliens? It's so much fun! Starring Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig 😁
I very much want to see a reaction to Nimona
These flicks are supposed to pay homage to the B-movies made, in the times in which they are set!
BTW… During the’50’s, the B-movies were pretty much all about the cold war/Russians, giant bugs, & (As Indy puts it) “saucer men from Mars”!
They are not meant to be “real”! While they often involve real events/historical figures, etc… are adventure fantasies!
And they are not to be taken so seriously!
They are meant for the audience to just sit back, & enjoy the ride!
(You know…? For fun’s sake.)
Sure! One must suspend disbelief, but I never hear anyone complaining about all of the ridiculous stuff Captain Jack Sparrow, or any other BS any lead character, survives!
BTW…
Temple of Doom is (Literally) the most ridiculous link in the chain! (Even if Key Huy Quan’s “Short Round” is one of the best characters in any of these flicks!)
As far as Indy 5 is concerned, to my mind, the only real thing that ai have any sort of problem with is that (SPOILER!), Indy’s being accused/wanted for a crime he didn’t commit, was never resolved!
Other than that, it’s an enjoyable, & fine final adventure.
(And, for the most part, the majority of reactions I have watched for it, seem to agree.)
Stop being told how to think, & go into these flicks with an open mind, & just sit back, & enjoy them, for what they are…
Entertainment!
turns out Cate Blanchett doing a ridiculous Soviet accent might actually be my favourite genre. but Cate Blanchett doing literally anything is my second favourite genre so 🤷♀
Ah that guy from Even Stevens
😁
Freak show film is beautiful❤
Please watch outer banksss!! I really enjoyed it
Can you please watch the hunger games?
At some point yes lol
Watch shrek 1-4
Sorry Indiana Jones purest this is fun. I also get why you hate it .
You can HAVE BOTH! It's terrible, it's fun - it's terribly fun!!!
@@PinkPopcast Agreed
Terminator please
I love the series so much but is this my favourite out of the series? Nah. Am I still gonna watch the destiny of dial? Fuck yeah
Like, the ending? Out of all the films, idk why, I just feel like it was a cop out? Idk why, even though all the films have outrageous reasons and plots 😂
I think last crusade is defs my favourite out of the series
Indiana Jones has a bad case of the Scully effect
Benji organising weapons testing via artistic design😂. Having John Hurt in a movie but then having him barely speak should be a crime! I watched The Storyteller series when I was a kid, his voice will always be magical to me. Like Rizzo I saw the Crystal Skull at the cinema, I enjoyed some of it but the aliens thing is racist & lame. Dial Of Destiny isn't perfect either (hated the facial CGI at the beginning and the ending is confusing) but I think it's better than Crystal Skull. I really want to hear what Rizzo and Benji think of Dial Of Destiny! As for "boy movies", Yeah it would be fun to see you guys watch/react to some classics like Die Hard or Terminator. Though I am still hoping you will watch LADYHAWKE :-)
Benji, you're wrong. Whenever you've dated someone in the past, the door is open in the present.
I don’t think that’s accurate lol
