GuerrillaZen Fitness Do lateral pelvic tilt causes scoliosis?
It will cause functional scoliosis.
Hi you talked exactly about my condition i have 1 flat foot only on the right side and i have been in pain in the opposite side left front hip for over 10 years and muscle imbalance and weakness especially the right side from neck all the way to the foot , all doctors give different opinions from arthritis of the hip to hip replacement others says neuropathy, i am very confused !
Is lateral pelvic tilt same as uneven love handles??
Flat foot one side. Yep. Pronates ankle. Yep. Uneven hips yep. Uneven obliques. Yep. Uneven traps. Yep. Uneven shoulders. Uneven neck. Yep. My body’s a mess
It’s only reflecting your subconscious mind. Your body is your subconscious mind
@@Ohquesarah lol its reflecting compensatory reactions to legitimate injury, in my case the disk (caused my heavy lifting at a young age). You spiritual people are annoying af
@@Ohquesarahkind of true. But your subconscious mind is your body too. Try having someone cut you while you're a asleep. You won't see or hear them but the body will influence the mind. It goes both ways. So even if psychological trauma made your body crooked (it did mine) the body has to be worked on simultaneously in order to heal.
I feel your pain
I'm so tired and I'm just 20y/o , in past years I was okay but now.its getting worse and worse what do I do men
My dude you just saved me by acknowlege that I have one flat foot and thats been causing knee troubles and in recent years my pelvis has feeling it. Im 23 so I think im on time to adress this. Thank you so much
its been 2 years. how is it now?
Wish I would have seen this a year ago. I watched your videos on how to address the musculature associated with pelvic tilt and I was doing them forever with very temporary results. 5 minutes with a physical therapist last week and he popped my pronated ankle and pulled that same leg and un-jammed my hip. Literally... PROBLEM RESOLVED within 24 hours.
Thank you for the post! I am a 33 year old chef. I had a traumatic accident in '15. I now have an permanent internal prosthetic in my left foot (interlocking titanium plate with over 20 screws). My recovery has been fairly miraculous and I recently stumbled across your youtube channel. It's opened a new door of possibilities in my eternal healing journey. NOTE: My left foot is pretty flat and I cannot fully bend my toes--especially the big toe. My physical therapist had seen many surgeries like mine, but he was unable to explain this. I believe it has to do with another surgery from the same accident on the same foot that involved fusing the top of my foot together with pins & metal screws. All of those pins and screws have been removed as of January 2016. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!
Apart from old injuries to back, etc, one reason is any injury - particularly in the immediately after, recovering phase where you put less weight on one side to protect it. This can be leg injuries with or without a limp, but basically where the body puts less weight on that leg to prevent pain. Less commonly, upper body injuries too, if they result in movements that avoid using one side more - say doing more work with a healthy hand to protect a bad elbow. Usually, you'll also see one shoulder more forward than the other in such cases - a kind of twist placing the healthy side a bit forward and drawing the bad side back.
I'm glad I've found this channel 'cause I've pretty much got it all! It's really starting to affect me pain wise. I've never really tired to correct it or excersize because I didn't think it could be done so easily or without surgery.
Best guy on net for explaining these types of issues.
I got charged so much money for multiple appointments trying to figure out what was wrong with my knee to no avail and your videos are helping me to treat it at home while I lay off those bills. Funny how that works
Came here for lateral pelvic tilt from sleeping on my side, realized it was because one of my arches is fallen. Thank you!
I restore both archs with this: lay down on the floor with your legs straight but relax, get a piece of wood or large hard cover book, about 1 1/2 inches thick and put it under your glutes, stay 20 minutes, take out the book, bring your knees up but your feet stay on the floor, for 5 minutes lay there. Feel the difference. My feet were hurting for 2 months because arch was getting strong. If you have no butt get a 2 inches thick book.
freedomalert this works???? Trying it now
I naturally sleep on my back due to big shoulders but i been doing exercises for my lateral pelvic. Digging into my body i realized one foot steps a little different then the other. Makes sense now
Thank you very much for this video I have been dealing with lots of pain and decreased mobility around this exact issue for years now and I'm only 33. Thank you for the insight and information, looking forward to trying the exercises.
Very correct. Sleeping on the left side and working on the computer for long periods of time caused my lateral pelvic tilt.
TirthB'Arya same here happened since is started a job with lots of computer work
TirthB'Arya how did you treat the problem?
Did you have pain due to the tilt?
When you said “waitresses do that a lot when they stand-“ I’m literally trying everything in my power to correct my pelvis before work today (I work as a bartender and do stand like this too often!) I knew this was the video for me!
Thank you for this channel! As a person with Ankylosis Spondyliosis sometimes complicated by Lupus your videos have helped so much. These last few years I have gotten worse now having SI joint dysfunction. Even doing PT every year you only get so many visits and it's nice to have something to do independently while waiting to get into PT or when you've used up your insurance allowance. With random injuries happening regularly you allow me to stay proactive with treatment and help improve function and quality of life.
Super happy to hear that Marla :)
This is mind-blowing! I have been watching a lot of videos and reading a bunch of stuff trying to figure out the cause of my imbalances, until I found this video!
My two legs feel very different when squatting but I could never figure out why. I can clearly feel the imbalances as (1) I feel that my upper body is a bit leaning sideways while jogging (2) I feel that my right hip is sitting deeper into the chair and my right lower back hurts even though I have a nice ergo chair (3) I notice that my two knees and feet are pointing at different angles even though I thought I was sitting upright and facing directly forward. Because my right knee is pointing more outwards and the lower back pain is on the right side, I always thought the issue is on the right side. UNTIL I FOUND THIS VIDEO. It all makes sense now: it comes from the left ankle that ripples through the whole body. My left shoulder is higher as mentioned in the video. And a very subtle thing I just noticed: my left toenail is not parallel with the floor like the right one. It's "tilted" inwards likely caused by all the squats while have an inward-tilted ankle. I will do the exercise you mentioned in the linked videos accordingly! Thank you so much for sharing all these insightful stuff!
I totally have a bunch of little things that contribute to a slightly tilted and twisted pelvis, but this totally reinforces that my left foot being flatter totally started everything. Definitely working on my arch!
I read that the flat foot was a symptom of the hip not a tilt. Also very interesting what you said about side sleeping. My symptoms really started when I began side sleeping. I was also doing a lot of sitting at work. Tight hips are a big factor.
Hi Blake. Around minute 5.00 you said, "The tibula and fibula, which are muscles in your"...... I know you know they are bones of the lower leg, not muscles, but thought I should mention it so one of your viewers doesn't get confused. Thanks for another great video!
Yeah, misspoke there. Figured you guys were smart enough to know what I was talking about :)
Lateral pelvic tilt and turned off gluteus (one side) can be same?
An old broken foot and 15 years of imbalanced movement patterns. Then started working out like crazy, eventually became so messed up cant figure it out until one year later, which was last week, and that is that i have an extremely twisted pelvis. Also slept on my left side only for several years to combat heartburn.
Great video. My left hip dropped and sure enough my left arch is lower than my right. Resulted in hip pain. After strengthening my left arch for two months im back to running again.
"so this last cause is having a flat foot with a pronated ankle on one side but not the other"
yup, that's pretty much why I searched up this video.
Blake thanks for this my busted up ankle has been keeping me in this position a long time thanks for your help great video I’m working on fixing it now
I was looking for exercises to actually fix this. I have strong arches. That is not my root cause.
I have this EXACT problem!! Thank you! I’ve been trying different exercises to strengthen my arch, but haven’t had much luck!! It’s so frustrating!!! I try to run/walk barefoot everyday and do those exercises. I’m considering getting the custom orthodicnas a last resort. The weird part is my right arch is amazing and is super strong and has responded well to everything, but my left arch just won’t grow!!
hows it going now? Did u see any improvements?
Excellent, real help no fancy gadgets.
0:40 I laughed at that moment so hard cause that’s my insecurity and you doing it triggered me so hard 😂😂😂😂
Difficult to maintain symmetry, what symmetry we are blessed with at birth, as we age AND gain weight.
Not impossible.
Yes!!!! I found the root cause because of your video. It's real I have one side that have the barefoot and this made me hip imbalance. Thank you sir.
This guy is legit, really good video
Great info. I saw a PT for knee pain and he identified a slightly flat foot on the right but failed to connect that to my knee pain and other issues. That was 5 years ago 😖 Gonna work on foam rolling and strengthening and then look into an orthotic. Thanks.
I think one cause you didn’t mention is a screwy visual system. If you are too right eye dominant then you aren’t sensing the ground on the left correctly. Essentially it’s sloping down. This causes you to not trust the ground on the left and tighten up there causing lateral pelvic tilt. One way to test for folks that have this is look to your right does your left side tighten up when you do and when you look to your left does your left side relax?
Cant force myself to sleep on my back its automatic to move to one side
Try getting an orthopedic pillow
I use 5 or 6 different types , sizes of pillows in all types of positions from the knee up to try to prevent me from sleeping on my side.
cant sleep on back because apnea wakes me up
You need meditation
@@Pepy667 Same here. Sleeping on your back is one of the worst things for people with sleep apnea because the tongue falls back. I'm buying a sleep apnea head strap that supposedly keeps the jaw forward preventing the tongue from falling. Only way I'll be able to back-sleep smh.
That was good Blake. I needed it. Overworking my holistic therapy job, good to get back to some pointers on structure. Which I still think is important even though some high profile neurologists don't. You did forget to mention Scoliosis so if you want to give us a refresher on how you tackle them I would be appreciative. You have been in business longer than I have so I can still do to learn a few tricks. I particularly liked your video on tendon injuries. Thanks Mate.
thank you for much needed information on causes
i already have a custom orthotic for my shoes, but didn’t know that it can have negative effects when you’re not strenghtening the arch so i’m glad you mentioned that
You are a real deal man u da best , like all what you mentioned in this video can cause Scoliosis and where ever i go they say they don't know the reason why
Yeah, thanks man!
Aha!, I have flat feet & always struggled with bad posture & to make it worse I work on my feet all day bec. I am a hairstylist. Thanks for the enlightenment!😇
Peach Phillips orthotics are your friend! And compression tights!
In my case Atlas dislocation caused these issues. Have an Atlas Profilax specialist and you are set. It is a one stop treatment.
I watched your rib flare video also. I'm just blessed with all kinds of posture problems! 😬
Curious if you've heard of the Melt Method that uses a foam roller and small balls to work on the body. I haven't been consistent, but Melt immediately helps relieve the pain. Also, have you heard of the book Somatics by Thomas Hanna or the theory of "sensory motor amnesia"? I just started taking an online Somatics course. Really interesting info that ties into many of your videos! Hoping it can help me correct all of my posture imbalances!
Thank you for this channel!! I really wish I had found your channel sooner!! I'm in such a rut and not sure where to even start anymore. It is really overwhelming and depressing. I am flat footed and yes my knees knock in and I'm pretty sure I have a lateral and or anterior pelvic tilt. I have been to several doctors and chiropractors and no one has really been able to help me, and I am now scheduled to have surgery on my knee on the 29th of May for a femoral osteotomy. Which now I'm thinking I need to back out of and maybe find someone who can help me with these issues. I also have a lopsided glute and all the other signs and symptoms that you have mentioned in your video's. I'm so tired of being in pain and I'm way too young for all this. I recently started physical therapy which has helped tremendously, but now noticing a new problem in my foot which now I'm thinking has to be a trickle down effect due to some of these underlying other problems I have. Anyway too much info sorry for the rant just wanted to say thanks cause I watched some of the videos and they make alot of sense to me!! God Bless
Hi, I have just read your message and am wondering if you had yours surgery and how is your mobility now?
Nice video, what’ if I have a good arch but on the one foot the ankle stills rolls in feels like the leg is not centered over the foot like the other? Thanks
Pretty sure that the flat foot and leg length is the result of pelvic tilt , not the other way around . but it will help using foot support , but until pelvic is treated , it wont do much .
When standing and walking i have been turning my foot away from the fallen arch returning the balance on the foot it helped relieve some shoulder pain but I will also be doing the exercises as well. Thank you
Side sleeping
Stirring at desk
True leg length discrepancy
Holding things with hips shifted
Old injuries
Flat foot with prorated ankle
This is also can be because of your occlusion. (I mean if u have bad bite) your body starts compensating
Great presentation . Thx
I am in such a rut with my posture, everything is so imbalanced with chain reactions all over my body. I just don't know where to start recovery as there is so much going on. I haven't been to the gym for 3 years because I don't want to feed these imbalances and make them worse
My clients tell me this all the time man, and I used to be there myself. Check out my coaching page and feel free to apply if you want my help with this.

I was right there. I worked with Blake and I'm back to running, lifting, and being active. I was out of commission for 3 years and I know how frustrating it is!
I get you! I'm 21 and I've had a problem for two years when I lifted heavy weights, I have pelvic floor dysfunction. My left hip is higher and I have a posterior pelvic tilt, I'm in pain all the time and it's hard to fix the underlying cause
I share your frustration I was/am there. through YEARS of bad posture my body had adapted terribly as Blake mentions. This leads to a terrible positive feedback loop where even your gait is altered and only makes the imbalances worse. The only fix is to basically start from ground zero and work on soft tissue work, posture, and retraining your movement patterns. Blake has AMAZING videos for this, but it's a long journey to find out what specifically is wrong with your own body as you've likely adapted to issues that are unique to you. The pelvis, glute function, and the core function seem to be the major contributors. Tight QL muscles, tight greater trochanter area, external rotation of the hips (especially in athletes), lack of tranversus abdominis activation, lack of thoracic mobility, poor glute function, Anterior pelvic tilt, Tight IT band and outter quad....these are the issues I've had to work on. It can take a lot of time, but when you feel your body starting to normalize it feels AMAZING. I don't care about lifting weights and such with how much better I feel.
As a student then a teacher I walked around for many years with a very large bag full of heavy books, hanging off my shoulder.
Why didn’t you show us the actual exercises to strengthen the arch? This was the most eye opening video I’ve seen on my incredibly frustrating physiology.
My man..Thank you for making this video. Body has been jacked up for a while now with progressive loss of ability to train. Stoked to begin working on this
wow thank you this is immensely helpful, what a kind wonderful soul of us in pain
Great work man 👍
You are a life saver! Thank you very much! 😄
my exact case. flat arch on the right. i also have a chronic issue with my rhomboid on that side-doc next week for that. basically my right lat is super tight and that’s messing up the rest of my musculature, hip, foot. kind of a chicken/egg problem lol. thanks for the tips, i will work on my arch.
Hello
I have been told by my chiropractor that I have anterior and lateral pelvic tilt. I started visiting her because I started getting an unusual issue. Having had chronic back problems on and off for twenty years I just put up with the pain but two years ago I started to not be able to tolerate any different footwear at all aside from the ones I was wearing prior to this problem.
Could lateral pelvic tilt be the cause? I get really tight SI area, tightness up my spine and under shoulder blades in response to different footwear after just a few minutes, then I have to put up with the soreness for at least a day.
Please give me your thoughts, thanks
Wow bro i have flat feet and i had uneven sholders and sometimes my quadratus lumborum hurts on the one or the other side and it tightens my hamsterings. Thanks a lot i have a better understanding of it now.
Would side sleeping on the other side be helpful in counteracting lateral pelvic tilt?
Yes
Chris Hill really? I’ve never heard anyone say it does.
if one side is really hiked to one side, no matter what side you sleep on the one side will be hiked
No as this reinforces shortness of both sides of quadratus lumborum which creates more problems.
You have to stretch the QL which is right

Best and clear cut video on hip imbalance ! Is it possible to get ankle pronation due to hip imbalance (lateral tilt)
I hate old injuries like having APT & broken hip
Ahh...
Found it...😍
(Emotional)😭
Scoliosis cause hip tilt ,all skeleton lid connected and work as a whole.
I have no idea what is wrong with my pelvis...a chiropractor told me I have a twisted pelvis but I never went back to see him again. A physiotherapist told me I had a slight anterior tilt. My left shoulder is definitely lower than my right and when I place my fingers on my hips my left hip seems slightly higher. I lean to in my right side when sleeping and watching tv so it makes sense to have hip hike on my left side but.... all my pain and tightness is on my right side! Including my glute medius, tfl, lower back, hip flexors I’m even getting trapezius pain and have a lot of trigger points around my right shoulder... my left side with hip hike seems ok??. A little confused with what is going on! Not sure the best person to see chiropractor or physiotherapist?. Another thing I have noticed is my back looks slightly more posterior tilt and left side more anterior when looking in the mirror😀
Do you have old right ankle or right knee injuries?
I remember I used to have some horrible pain in my left foot and ankle up until a couple of years ago and it was due to arch drop. I started using shoes with arch support and I no longer felt so much pain when walking. I subsequently had a gluteus medius/piriformis injury and I know my QL started tightening up like hell, so did my adductors. I soon felt a leg discrepancy, the right right leg feeling like a wooden, long leg. With exercises I started to walk just fine and although I dont feel different when I walk, visually, the left hip is lower. I now wonder whether I've had that lateral pelvic tilt for way longer than my injury, and potentially that even caused the injury itself. I'll give the foot exercises a go and see what happens. Thanks for the video :D
How long does it takes to correct tilted pelvis
Please guide exercise about this ..
Is there a possibility that something else could cause a weird gate which would then cause the arch of one side to not grow?
How to know which foot to put arch on? Both?
i want the practicle exercise
Flat foot on left side will make hip on right side go up and shoulder on left to go down?
Please sir give me more exercise to improve my laterial palvic tilt
Do you think it's worth it to seek physical therapy to help get it back correct again? The pelvic tilt? Mine has gotten terrible...
Thank you very much for this video. I think it’s what I have as my right shoulder goes down and have pain in the right leg in places of rotations. But, I’m afraid it’s not the only rotation of pelvis I have as my right hip goes forward when standing straight or up when laying on my back. Are you able to make a video on addressing tilting of singe hips forward? Many thanks
This was a great video! Thanks! For me, it's hit the spot exactly with my flat feet! I'll be checking out the videos you mentioned, in the description, for the arch building exercises. Do you think wobble boards are good for helping stabilizing muscles from flat-foot-caused lateral pelvic tilt? Basically, my right foot is super flat (left too but not as much) and my left hip is higher, and now I know why! Turns out, over time, apparently my left si joint got 'fused' or didn't have a lot of motion, and now that my chiropractor's getting movement back in there, my psoras or gluteus medius on my left always 'tickles' as if it's stabbed with a knife. I've seen many other videos, including many of yours, but this is the first one that showed me it's my right flat foot affecting my left high hip. Thanks again!
This is life saving vedio , thank u so much, 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I don't understand, always been told that sleeping on the left side with a pillow under the knees was the right thing, so, it's not?
I'm always sleeping on my right side. Would sleeping on the left side fix this?
Derek that sounds like the easy way out
@@Cherylmasonmain too good to be true but always worth a shot
Bingo - Thank you Thank you - My two feet arches, size, and strength are completely different. (additionally, the right leg is much bigger and stronger than the left). And I believe this is the root cause of all my issues including but not limited to lateral pelvic tilt, tight everything (hamstrings, calves, quads, hips, etc). I have to stretch the whole day to feel good!! I will contact you for personal advice and training.
Is your right side the hip that is lower? because its the right side for me that dropped
no - my right is higher.
You sound like me, are you hypermobile?
In certain types of baseball swings, they emphasize a Lateral tilt, so in order to get into this position,
I should have my FRONT hip above my REAR hip correct? I can achieve this by tilting my pelvis?
Thank you in advance! You are the man Blake!
If the rotated pelvis resulted from hip replacement can it still be corrected.
Thank you so much ....love you 😆
Wow wonderfull. What do I do if my back having Scolioses 60 degrees? Got the same body tipe
So does that mean my left foot is causing my left glute and left leg to be weaker than my right?I don't know which one to work on first or all at the same time?
cat heart what are you starting on first? I have the same problem, but on the right.
I’m basically doing all 3 but I do it gradually like first I do my foot then once I get comfortable with that and becomes habit I do my leg and so on
cat heart hope it goes well. Let me know if you do anything else that works. This imbalance is a lot of work to try to get back in balance.
I always sleep with my left side down.... that's why my right side is little outward.....
what if i start sleeping with my right side down. Will it fix my uneven hips?...
FBI it will help to reduce it but it won't fix it for sure. You need to strengten certain muscles and change your habit to fix it permenantly.
How can you expect people to trust you if you have a habit of lying? Changing your habit that contribute to it is the key to fix it.
Thank you, flat arch might be my problem👍👍
Omg thank you so much for this video. I always wondered what's wrong with me. I also found your video on lifting the lazy glute
You say a flat foot can cause problems up the chain but is it possible to develop the lateral tilt followed by a dropped arch? Couldn't the glute become inhibited from lateral tilt to cause the arch drop or is this not really a possibility?
Dose this apply if you have been flat footed for years? At this point I been flat footed since high school and have been training ever since. Currently have a hamstring imbalance where my left side of definitely activating more during any kinda of deadlift really also during the lift my right foot starts to rotate out to compensate. I have restored to doing a lot more single leg hamstring work & while it's reduced it's definitely still present. Sorry for the long post btw
I have exactly this, but is it possible that it is the other way around and the lateral tilt/hip causes the foot to be flat. I also have a winged scapula on the side with the flat foot
I was just wondering why no mention of muscle imbalance was refered to esp Q/L or gluteus medius
as a possible etiology?
very insightful info. bro thank you
Thank you so much your videos are so informtive I am. Going to try those foot exercises.
Sir very good demonstration. Requesting you to show how to make uneven spine straight. Midbone N upper bone vettebrae is bulging out
Can really tight calf muscles cause a lateral tilt?
My shoulder is dipped on the side my hip is lower, also my right foot which is the one that’s lower feels like its scrunched up and doesn’t land on the ground right
Hey bud so I have tight pelvic till 2 degree lower 11mm and I have qt tightness. Which one would be my weak leg?Would my short leg be my left?
Blake-this is exactly the issue I was telling you about when we spoke a few weeks a go! Man, I have got to start working with you soon. I’ll definitely be in touch again! Thanks for your great content! I really feel like you’re THE trainer for me and my situation! 💪🏻
Hi
I have that of the one leg longer than the other... How can I correct it
Wow?, thank you so much. It really helped me. Now I will apply all this information to help my lateral tilt.
