ive already have played it 20 times and im not even a Padres fan. Its just insane and I feel so godam happy for the guy. Hes literally a nobody on that team, he knows no one. What a way to introduce yourself...
I teared up honestly. Probably won't ever happen again for him, he'll probably get sent back down next week, that's just the way it is... But doing this for his boyhood club off a cy young winner none the less is remarkable.. unreal
Credit to the broadcast team who knew that his family was in the stands and already had a camera on them. Wonderful for such a moment to be caught on camera to make it immortal. Also, it's just nice to see a pitcher who doesn't give up on batting practice.
LOL, since I was about five miles from the stadium when Musgrove no-hit my Rangers, I have to agree with you. This is on par with Stephen F. Austin upsetting #1 Duke in basketball a couple of years ago. Whitney Houston sung it: "One moment in time, when I'm more that I thought I could be . . ." That is why you watch sports.
Me too! I had a dinner meeting with a client and saw the fiasco of the first three innings and figured I wouldn’t miss anything. When I got home, I turned the game back on in time to see Pham lead off the 9th with a hit, advance to third and Grish get the game winning hit!
I watch this clip over and over. One of my favorite moments. Not only has long road and perseverance in the minors, but to be able to handle that pressure of bases loaded and to follow through with that grand slam in front of his family. I guarantee you 99% of all young boys and men dream of something like this. I sure hope they make this a movie.
Was thinking the same thing. That was a good take on the change up, and the hr ball wasn’t a bad pitch, a Scherzer 96 and well below the zone, that’s no joke, but Camarena just went down and got it.
So surreal, awesome and unexpected! You couldn't script this! Given Camarena's long struggle to make it to the show, persevering after his father passed away to arrive at this moment of hitting a grand slam for his first MLB hit in his home town in front of his entire family with two strikes against arguably one of the best pitchers in MLB, and inspiring the Padres to overcome an 8-0 deficit, it was just so special and incredible to see and hear it live at Petco ! And that pitch by Scherzer wasn't even a strike! Best baseball moment I've ever witnessed! Reminds me of Jim Morris (portrayed by Dennis Quaid in "The Rookie"), only better... Someone should make an inspiring movie about Camarena's life!
Just met him at balboa bay club tonight super cool humble guy he’s just coming off tommy John surgery, even being a dodger fan was cool watching this video with him right next to me with his brother in telling me to look up his highlights and this comes up
I get chills every time watching this replay. A Slam of the Century, an instant padre hero, Daniel Camarena. Even though he went to my rival high school, Cathedral Catholic, all the best to the guy 👍🏽
As a Reds fan this was incredible to see. Great to see it wasnt a highlight against us. Seen enough of those this year! But a great hometown story to see!
I was at the game when another journeyman Padre, Chris Denorfia, hit a pinch hit walk off, first pitch against Chapman and your Reds. I thought no moment could top that outside of winning a chip, I was wrong. Thanks for the love from Cincinnati.
@@tonyattardo9350 ugh I remember that. 8 or so years ago. Denorfia started with us. Remember him here in 2006. So that was even more salt to that wound with that blast. Good luck rest of season. We are up against Brewers starting 2nd half 4 games out from them. The NL Central has been a free for all this year with teams hot then cold. Us on a hot streak now. You guys got a squad that can ball, hopefully you guys pit it together 2nd half
I love how aggressive and young the Padres are. They have a team that can last a decade, especially with young guns like Fernando and Ha-Seong. Man, I miss living in San Diego!
Fantastic!…this was an unbelievable event for a pitcher debut from a long stint in minor leagues…and to share it with his family…Doesn’t get any better than this
I can only imagine the amount of games him and his brother went to with his family at the stadium. Now they have another great memory for the books. That homer was a gift from pop for sure. How can you hate baseball?
As a lifetime fan of baseball and the Phillies fan who grew up loving the 1993 team. I would just like to thank your entire organization for letting the players be themselves and making baseball fun again!!!
Don't tell me that man is a pitcher...that swing was legit, looking like an everyday hitter at the least. inside low fastball, located with perfection, and the guy slammed Mad Max. we'll see you for a long time, Daniel.
This is for SWVLL. I remember him as a 6year old t ball player he got sent up to play with the older kids in the 7 to 8 year old caps and more than held his own.Always hustling
as a nats fan its hard to see your best pitcher have a bad day like that but camarena's hit was absolutely incredible and you can't help but feel good for him. this is one i'm not upset about losing, padres deserved that win.
Opposing teams can just never load the bases against the padres. Ever. No matter if the batter coming up is a PITCHER in his 2nd MLB AB. Doesn't matter. There's some kind of magic on this team.
Somewhere in Chula Vista, there's a loser or two who works at 7-11...or at Roberto's...who brags to any customer within earshot: "No big deal. Shit, I struck his ass out when we played Cathedral back in 2010."
This is one of those clips that is going to be played forever
This^
Seems like this era of Friar Baseball is going to have a lot of these moments, after being pretty bleak the past 20 years.
Mlb.tv plays flashback highlights during commercial breaks. This is undoubtedly going to be there.
ive already have played it 20 times and im not even a Padres fan. Its just insane and I feel so godam happy for the guy. Hes literally a nobody on that team, he knows no one. What a way to introduce yourself...
Giants fan, and of course I want the Giants to go all the way. But, wouldn't this highlight fit so nice in a World Series Film!
I teared up honestly. Probably won't ever happen again for him, he'll probably get sent back down next week, that's just the way it is... But doing this for his boyhood club off a cy young winner none the less is remarkable.. unreal
Hope the absolute best for the guy, but no matter what happens from here on out, you can never take this moment away. SPECIAL!!!
Off of a future hall of fame, for sure. Unreal
@@KingNyanCat ur right,, watched it again, down and in 96 mph fastball, that ain't easy even if ur doing it everyday 😆
It is so hard not to be romantic about sports sometimes
A week? Doubt it... they keeping him the rest of the year for that hit.

something about these hometown boys. first joe & now camarena.. crazy
You betcha yah great moment.
Could be your year.
@@Daniel-fd3wp ain’t nothing better than a local boy winning one for the hometown
After decades of the Padres being shit. It’s a beautiful thing.
If there was ever a moment to actually top Musgrove's No-Hitter....THIS. IS. IT!!!! Surreal moment.

@@noeltaylor3594 I was there for the no hitter. We went just as crazy as Daniels brother so it’s really close
I see a movie in the future … a baseball version of the movie, Invincible, starring Mark Wahlberg.
@@goaliedon I see a movie happening too...but with an 85 year old Kevin Costner.
Being from SD makes this all better. Have a day Daniel Camarena
Just like how Musgrove is from SD and threw the first padre no hitter. This team is WILD and I’m all for it
“Bad timing huh”….yea for anyone facing bases full of PADRES!!!!
St. Louis Cardinals fan here (for life) I don't think I have ever been happier for a player I have never heard of, on someone else's team. 🍻
As a baseball fan, thank you for editing and posting this extended cut. I sincerely appreciate it.

I was there too! I was in the section to the left right by them! Right field foul pole!
That's probably the greatest Padres comeback win I've ever seen!! Magical!
