excellent info! Ive been chasing down issues on my van for YEARS.........and finally have come to a loose/not sealing oil cap (and oil filler tube grommet at the engine is cracked, leaking air) creating a LEAN condition.....leading to more fuel injected.... and fouling the spark plugs and O2 sensors!
Thanks for this video I only realised that my gasket was missing- I never knew they had a gasket haha the more you learn thx for this video hopefully it solves my issue with leakage from my 116I [N45B16A]
Had the same problem but not that bad, still there was a small vacuum leak. Bought the new cap and it is really bad quality, i then looked for another one from SWAG, genuine one for early engine models with round shape. It really was better hope it will last long from now.
This was an excellent video I replaced the gasket in the cap. Is this common in BMW's the smoke from the burning oil in the back by the PVC coming from the leaky cap. Thanks.
Haven’t been able to find a gasket. I might buy the febi part for 3 euro and use the gasket like you did. I noticed febi’s finish is sloppy when I bought the intake boots. If I can avoid febi, I do.
Yes you are right. Febi finish ist not that perfect compared to Lemförder for example. But febi parts do the job just perfect and may not hold for too long. Till now the gasket is doing well and no leaks on that area.
@@DIYTEA I got a new put in, I physically see oil around the cap, also oil collects on power steering reservoir, it was every few weeks about 3k miles, it was parked almost two weeks working on it, my guess was so long parked, it finally dried up in there. Hoping for best
@@Tom-q9z5s Yes you can do this. Could work but pay attention to select the right rubber material cauz there are some qualities not suitable for heat, oil and fuel vapors so they desintegrate and land inside the lubrication channel in the cylinder head

Would this waste a quart ever 600 miles or so?
No. That's s lot.

Do you know the gasket specs?
No sorry. There is slso no part number for the gasket alone.
I guess I can just measure and order one from a gasket house.@@DIYTEA

I did same yesterday, I didn't wanted to use without BMW logo so I did same. =) But still leaks a bit...
May be the closing springs of the cap are worn. Try the new gasket with the new cap and see if it still leaks 😉
@@DIYTEA I would't use no-name caps but I will try, thanks. =)
@@FnckU54 👍 you are welcome. Tell me if it works
