- First Kayak tournament of the year we find ourselves just outside of San Diego, CA at El Capitan Reservoir. As shown in the previous video, it has been an interesting trip up until this point. Lets see how the tournament unfolds and if we can get a little redemption on this seemingly unfortunate trip so far.

Greg fishes for me in the winter...This weekend I watched ALL of Greg's Tournament video playlists for fun.. I may or may not have teared up when he won the first one on video... I am a simple man.
I remember when he was fishing for bass on a frozen lake in NY last year That's when I knew my definition of hard core was no more

Sleeping in line to get into San Diego Lakes is a tradition since at least 1972 when I started fishing them. Otay, Hodges, El Cap, San Vee, Morena, Sutherland, all of them.
Imagine getting into kayak fishing, rolling up to your first tournament, you are nervous, excited, maybe confident even if scared......and then up rolls Greg Blanchard. Hopes and dreams fade away lift a puff of smoke. :)
Your a good dude for passing along technique and lure color, especially during a tourney. I wouldn't have been so nice (unless I knew them)

The answer is in Gregs "Gameday" morning videos of the passion & excitement in preparation to this day. Confidence in the unknown but known capability of what "we" are up to this point in going to battle in competition to be the best.
I don't know about most guys but I'm not happy to just be there in any tournament. I want to win. The thrill of the hunt in competition & the nature of it. To me it's also spiritual.
& a meaning of fellowship with people. A true love of the sport.
From Grace to Grace these videos are worth more than the time I see in the slot. Greg is true inspiration to the sport. Thank you for all you do for us kayakers to see. #HallofFame.

Fished those waters many times in february and it's not easy.san diego in general has quality fish,just real tough to catch sometimes.nice job brutha

It's ungodly cold here in the Ozarks. Winter storm is locked in for the next 4 or 5 days. No hope of wetting a hook anytime soon. Checked out your channel and you are fishing a tournament!!! Sweet!!! Kayak tournaments are taking place around here and I'm still looking into it fully. It's quite a different deal than the bass boat concept. I actually dig it though. Not sure if it's financially possible but I'm not giving up on the idea. I noticed that fish attractant you were using.......my choice as well. I have black gaff tape over mine just so I don't let everyone know some of my small secrets. I use both Crawfish and Shad scents. Not as an attraction but as to mask my scent from them. Thanks for sharing Greg!! Digging the tournament video 👊.

So many emotions all raining on your brain!!!! That’s tournament fishing!!!! When it’s 9 or 10 in the morning and there is nothing in the well........the voices will begin their deal if you let them. Gotta realize that the next cast could put a kicker in the boat. Toughest thing is to keep that mindset after one hundred thirty-seven unanswered casts!!!
Have one this weekend and it will be cold and rough and tough....they say it builds character. Oh well!!!

I totally understand when you said it was tough, plus someone was on your spot. This past weekend on Clear Lake was like that. I've never seen the parking lot at Redbud filled to capacity. The guy who won Big Fish in our club snagged a 7 lbs. toad, but some of us only had 1 fish. Hopefully, Berryessa will be an improvement in March. Tough outing for sure!! This was my first tourney in Cali and coming from Florida it was a rude awakening!! LOL. Like you mentioned, there was barely any spot on the lake that wasn't already occupied!! On to the next one!

My guess @ 8th & 77” woulda got ya a 6th place! That was one of the hardest Greg tournaments to watch. Crazy you could really only fish a couple spots on the lake, way to make the best of it. Thxs for taking us.

i myself am fishing several lakes this yr that i havent fished or thought i would ever fish here in alabama. going in blind and catching bass is extremely hard to do. i really enjoy watching your videos and cant wait for the next one. hard to beat that green pumpkin color on a rocky lake.

Some lakes just aren't cut out for tournaments. Not having enough water to fish is the most frustrating thing on tournament day especially in a kayak.

Was stationed in san diego and used to ride my streetbike around this lake, north side has awesome vegetation at the mouth.
These lakes makes me happy to live in Northern Cali!🤣
But we love the offshore fishing around here

Pre spawn-post spawn I believe scent is even more crucial because I feel like bass have learned over the decades to avoid red and focus on other senses sure bass don’t have the sense of smell of a catfish but they still smell that garlic dinner cooking!!
