This game was so great. I have huge memories about this game, and it was definitelt the best Mortal Kombat game ever made even today. They totally brought the MK series to a whole new level, especially with the Konquest mode. Even the music from the Konquest mode (especially the music the first village in Earthrealm when you begin) gives me chilling memories... ! They should make another game like this one..

1:37:11 I like to think that after Deception’s ending, Shujinko’s fight with Onaga crippled and weakened him, but didn’t kill him. So after the battle, he escaped and went into hiding. Hiding until the power of Armageddon revealed itself and drew all warriors to it, including him. But upon arriving, he sees Shao Khan and is far more interested in killing the mortal responsible for sending him on this downward path from the beginning. So he attacks and Carries him away while Shao was off-guard. But while being whisked away, Shao attacks him mid-air(most likely by summoning his hammer to him) and notices Onaga is much weaker than he should be due to not being fully recovered from his fight with Shujinko. He then takes advantage of this and Kills Onaga either while being carried, or after they both fall to the ground. After, he makes his way back to the temple of Blaze and sees most kombatants either killed or unconscious, with only Taven standing in his way. After Killing Taven and defeating Blaze, Shao obtains the power of Armageddon and Raiden with the remaining kombatants try to stop him. Which leads us into the opening of MK9. Like I said, this is just what I think happened off-screen, but it does fill in the gaps between these events in my opinion.

I just realized "Damashi" made Shujinko jealous by mentioning the kid that pretended to be Shang Tsung and gave Shujinko the exact same powers of mimicry as Shang Tsung. It's also interesting how you have a parallel between Liu Kang and Shujinko. Liu is someone who is naturally gifted and honed his skills, while Shujinko whom was not that talented, cheated and foolishly embarked on a quest without ever thinking it through beyond his own powers for several years
You have to admit. This was good. Even if he was “Deception” he still benefited a lot from traveling to all worlds. It also gives a good introductory of the worlds.
1:35:06 That cutscene in the Nexus feels to me like straight out of a comedy movie credits, it just needs Onaga, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Scorpion, Raiden dancing in the background and it's epic.
Don't forget that in the new timeline he was not nearly as strong because the events of MK Deception never happened. He was still known by raiden and was a skilled warrior though.

Its typically for what the social climate these days is. But i did like the double johnny thing. Except this storyline kinda fits into the themes that the original mortal kombat is based off of imo. its the atmosphere where this game is 11/10. You really do feel you are wondering another world and are seeing the characters come to life. Prior to this game, MK lore was mostly a mess of cutscenes and text from endings, but this game brought it together to make a convincing storyline (even if some parts of the timeline are completely incoherent, it was a valiant effort). the music certainly helped in the atmosphere as well.
I agree with your point about atmosphere. It's the music, noises and sound effects. Also the fact that you're traveling all those realms that all look different. The design of the kamidogu for each realm is also worth mentioning. My favorite mortal Kombat game in total, not just konquest.
Knowing how it will end, early on, so many clues that Damashi was evil. Like telling shujinko to keep the warrior's medalion to trick people. Stealing from the Lin Kuei, making him lie on several ocasions. Towards the end seemed a bit filler content, wel to get him to interact with characters he hadn't already. Earth to compete then not competing, Netherrealm to taint his soul again, Outworld to assault the Deadly Alliance. Also he seemed a bit too... polite to a lot of characters. For example letting Hotaru arrest him without a fight.
It’s inevitable. Someone else wouldve taken Onaga/damashi’s offer and same ending. Damashi did say he could redirect to shujinko’s classmate (the one who pretended to be Shang Tsung in the beginning konquest)
i'm not saying that shujinko is an idiot, but i kinda understand his heart was in the right place. He believes that he is on a quest for the elder gods, so he had no choice but to trust damashi (even thought damashi means Deceiver)

1:37:11 I like to think that after Deception’s ending, Shujinko’s fight with Onaga crippled and weakened him, but didn’t kill him. So after the battle, he escaped and went into hiding. Hiding until the power of Armageddon revealed itself and drew all warriors to it, including him. But upon arriving, he sees Shao Khan and is far more interested in killing the mortal responsible for sending him on this downward path from the beginning. So he attacks and Carries him away while Shao was off-guard. But while being whisked away, Shao attacks him mid-air(most likely by summoning his hammer to him) and notices Onaga is much weaker than he should be due to not being fully recovered from his fight with Shujinko. He then takes advantage of this and Kills Onaga either while being carried, or after they both fall to the ground. After, he makes his way back to the temple of Blaze and sees most kombatants either killed or unconscious, with only Taven standing in his way. After Killing Taven and defeating Blaze, Shao obtains the power of Armageddon and Raiden with the remaining kombatants try to stop him. Which leads us into the opening of MK9. Like I said, this is just what I think happened off-screen, but it does fill in the gaps between these events in my opinion.

I just realized "Damashi" made Shujinko jealous by mentioning the kid that pretended to be Shang Tsung and gave Shujinko the exact same powers of mimicry as Shang Tsung.
It's also interesting how you have a parallel between Liu Kang and Shujinko. Liu is someone who is naturally gifted and honed his skills, while Shujinko whom was not that talented, cheated and foolishly embarked on a quest without ever thinking it through beyond his own powers for several years
You have to admit. This was good. Even if he was “Deception” he still benefited a lot from traveling to all worlds. It also gives a good introductory of the worlds.
This was one of the first games that developed my love for open world RPGs. I spent a lot of time on this game when I was a kid.
After all of Shujinko's years he has finally finished his quest. Eventually in Armageddon, he becomes useless.

its the atmosphere where this game is 11/10. You really do feel you are wondering another world and are seeing the characters come to life. Prior to this game, MK lore was mostly a mess of cutscenes and text from endings, but this game brought it together to make a convincing storyline (even if some parts of the timeline are completely incoherent, it was a valiant effort). the music certainly helped in the atmosphere as well.
I agree with your point about atmosphere. It's the music, noises and sound effects. Also the fact that you're traveling all those realms that all look different. The design of the kamidogu for each realm is also worth mentioning. My favorite mortal Kombat game in total, not just konquest.
I miss this game so much! I used to run around and replay all the weird and dumb little side quests it had.

Any type of story structure would be completely ruined with NRS current writing team.
Knowing how it will end, early on, so many clues that Damashi was evil. Like telling shujinko to keep the warrior's medalion to trick people. Stealing from the Lin Kuei, making him lie on several ocasions.
Towards the end seemed a bit filler content, wel to get him to interact with characters he hadn't already. Earth to compete then not competing, Netherrealm to taint his soul again, Outworld to assault the Deadly Alliance.
Also he seemed a bit too... polite to a lot of characters. For example letting Hotaru arrest him without a fight.
