Mortal Kombat: Armageddon was the last MK in the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube era. Midway Games successfully transitioned Mortal Kombat from 2D to 3D with Deadly Alliance, and Armageddon was suppose to be the culmination of that era. Personally I liked Deception the best of the 3D MK games, but this one was very good in its own right. Like Deception, this game also had a fleshed out story mode in the form of the "Konquest" mode.
Throughout the Mortal Kombat universe, the warriors grow too strong and numerous for the realms to handle. The warriors' powers threaten to destroy the fabric of reality. To prevent this, the Elder Gods demanded a safeguard to be put in place to absorb the kombatants' insatiable bloodlust. In an enormous crater in Edenia, these warriors clashed in an ultimate battle between the Forces of Light and Darkness that would threaten to rip apart reality and bring about the apocalypse. Without warning, a mysterious pyramid rose from the ground, and the tip burst into flames, attracting the warriors' curiosity to see what it was. The kombatants fought one another to get to the top, while Blaze, the gods' firespawn, revealed himself to them. The firespawn was created by Delia, a powerful Edenian sorceress who is the mother of Taven (the main character in the Konquest mode), to destroy each fighter that threatened him in order to save the realms from Armageddon. This will be the warriors' last battle, in which some will survive and others will die. This will be the final battle for Mortal Kombat, the battle that will determine the fate of the realms.
We recorded this using the PS2 emulator on max settings at 60fps. As always we used relevant gameplay, important dialogue and all cutscenes to present a fluid cinematic experience. We hope you enjoy!

He didn’t give a shit about any power and didn’t understand why others wanted it so much, failed to comprehend how insane his entourage was, including his own brother and learned how truly savage the land he lives in is. He killed Blaze because he thought it was necessary, and he knew he was the only person sane enough to use the powers that came with it properly, if they were real.
I know right! I liked Taven and honestly thought the next game would involve him in some way but nope he's nowhere to be found and Shao Khan got the power of Blaze and Raiden reset the entire series :/

I agree, MK Armageddon was indeed fun to play. I had a blast with the Konquest mode, especially playing as Taven who happens to be my favorite character next to Daegon.
I agree armageddon was fun. I think fly kombat was amazing and it looks cool. Not to mention the game has more death traps which is what I love. Taven is a cool character.
So Taven did all that work, traveling through different realms, fought against his own demented brother, destroyed his own family, saw his childhood dragons die, fighting through wave after wave of armies AND other combatants fulfilling their parents proficy for NOTHING!! That ending was a nasty kick in the balls.

The first time I played this game I actually took it as some sort of moral explaining that just the idea of possessing extreme power, true or not, will corrupt many and cause all the quarrels that happen in this game. And make all the participants suffer. Taven was pretty much the only one in this game who didn’t care about this power and thus emerged victorious. Well and alive.
I may be overthinking, but back in the day this was a pretty great story to me.
I feel bad for Taven, his parents killed, his brother turned evil, and dragons that were his friends hurt :(

i kinda wish they rebooted this game to today's generation. i remember having so much fun with this game.
If it was made today we'd have to pay an extra £50 just to get all the chapters.
Armageddon was kind of a fond farewell to that generation of MK games, and it did it well.
That's why there are so many kharacters krammed in, even the krap ones like Jarek, Mavado, Kai, 2-legged Motaro, Hsu Hao, Reiko, Nitara, Sareena, Khameleon, and....seriously...Mokap? That was a sign they were finishing it.
Anyway, still a good game. Limited only by the restrictions of the PS2

MK Armageddon is still my favorite mk game and its Konquest mode is the greatest gaming experience I felt in the 2000's. Yes, it should've been longer but I adore it - fantastic locations & intriguing story. I really like Taven. Brilliant game. Sweet memories from 2006-2007.

The fight with rain was a pain in my ass when i was young and didn't understand games nearly as well
3:18 I like to think that after Deception’s ending, Shujinko’s fight with Onaga crippled and weakened him, but didn’t kill him. So after the battle, he escaped and went into hiding. Hiding until the power of Armageddon revealed itself and drew all warriors to it, including him. But upon arriving, he sees Shao Khan and is far more interested in killing the mortal responsible for sending him on this downward path from the beginning. So he attacks and Carrie’s him away while Shao was off-guard. But while being whisked away, Shao attacks him mid-air(most likely by summoning his hammer to him) and notices Onaga is much weaker than he should be due to not being fully recovered from his fight with Shujinko. He then takes advantage of this and Kills Onaga either while being carried, or after they both fall to the ground. After he makes his way back to the temple of Blaze, he sees most kombatants either killed or unconscious, with only Taven standing in his way. After Killing Taven and defeating Blaze, Shao obtains the power of Armageddon, and Raiden with the remaining kombatants try to stop him. Which leads us into the opening of MK9. Like I said, this is just what I think happened off-screen, but it does fill in the gaps between these events in my opinion.
So now we know what shinnok was doing in mk9 and X. It’s pretty nostalgic going back and watch this and deception before mk11

Taven, Daegon, Shinnok, Liu Kang's spirit, and Shao Kahn are the only survivors of Armageddon in the original timeline. With the as of yet unreleased Mortal Kombat 11 implying time travel and/or both timelines interacting with each other, I wonder if he and any of the other survivors will have a role in MK11's conflict?

This game had one of the best intros I had ever seen. This game got me into mortal kombat.
They need to keep the fighting roster this full every game. It kept the game fresh. I wasn't having the same match over and over. Plus, 14 playable females was perfect.
again this... much of Armageddon's content was sacrificed due to the large roster and you guys still want this back

This game chose quantity over quality. It had the huge roster, but most characters in the roster weren't fun to play. It was mostly recycled moves & re-used assets.
Plus there'd be less surprise for each game, what would be the point in hyping up the roster if we already knew everybody was gonna return?
I'd rather have a good 20-30 roster over a shit 60 roster
I think the Konquest mode in Armageddon was superior to Deception/Unchained But Both are amazing games with tons of features.

The Chubby Puggy Animates his character model was so basic and hated how he overpowered half the roster in konquest. Hopefully they flesh him out if they decide to bring him back

Temna Senka only thing I hate about new characters in MK. They give up on them. Kotal was made to look like a badass in X and then mk11 they made him look horribly weak and then aftermath let’s not talk about how much they disrespected his character lol

I won't deny there were a few good characters, but let's stop pretending Ed Boon's doing a good job overall in any capacity. The truth is he's running Mortal Kombat into the ground.
