Your the best instructor I've ever heard sir you completely upped my game and I thank you
My first practice ever and got 17 out of 25. Thanks
Just another point is that when it comes to shooting shotguns, it's best not think of "aiming" the gun as much as it is "pointing" the gun. The difference being, when "pointing" the gun the barrel should be blurry in respect to the target (the target in focus). When aiming, it's just the opposite. So, you aim a rifle and point a shotgun. To fix your form, you may need to take a look and have your gun fitted for you. Hope all of this helps!
after watching a few of your videos, you seem like a great man and a great shooting coach
@AImosTskater44 Yes! Both eyes should be open in general when shooting shotgun sports. Keeping both eyes open allows for binocular vision when shooting clay targets.
It takes a lot of practice and hard work, but anything is possible! The key to shooting is practice and form!
Nice tips. I followed and got the positive result.
Keeping the elbow out makes me receive more recoil in my shoulder and alot of stock slap. i keep my shoulder tucked in tight, I can shoot 34gram BB shot with little to no recoil and no bruises anymore.
But the eye brow tip is very good to remember !
@Sorbik Chris Batha uses ESP ear protection. You can hear him further explain in another video:
Look up our other video titled "Essential Equipment" and Chris Batha explains further what he uses.
I hope this helps!
If you want to practice doing this, you should check out our videos of Mounting a Gun Using a Mirror and Mounting a Gun Using a Flashlight and Laser. They will help you practice mounting the gun and get used to it without firing a round! It has definitely helped my shooting and how well I now see the bird. Both of your eyes should remain open as this allows for binocular vision and a full range of view.
@ClayCoachOnline It took me a while to get used to shooting with both eyes open. Improved my depth perception and tracking - and my average.
Thanks for post. I needed this.
Glad to have been helpful to you!
Thanks for the tips man. Hopefully this will help my horrendous skeet shooting today. Hahaha. Now to decide between the short stock 20 or the long stock 12. I'll be bruised to hell tomorrow either way. Hahaha.
Best coach ever LISTEN UP PILGRIMS
The great Rudy Etchen would beg to differ. Rudy taught that except for the first bird in doubles, always hold under the top of the house on all positions. On post No. 1, hold somewhere around the left corner of the house and below, so you can see where the bird goes the instant it leaves the trap house. If you hold above the house and the bird comes out from under your gun, you have a tendency to stab at it rather than make one complete swing and follow through. As you move stations just quarter your way. On No. 2, hold halfway between the left edge and the middle of the trap house. In the middle on No. 3; halfway between the middle and right edge on No. 4, and about the right edge on No. 5.
Congrats! We hope we helped you out a bit ;) Regardless a great feat and we hope for many more to come
Hello, it sounds like you may actually have a cross-dominance issue (meaning you're right handed but have a dominant left eye). I (sorry to say this is not Chris Batha), have the same problem and I was actually able to fix it be switching the shoulder I shoot off of. It takes some practice but works great! Chris Batha suggests doing this in his "Breaking Clays" book.
What model of shotgun do you suggest for trapshooting that could also be used for waterfoul?
Valeu pelas dicas!
I’m a beginner trap shooter what would be a good trap gun to start with semi-auto or over and under or single Was looking at a CZ single trap shotgun?? Ant help would be great thank you
so you keep both eyes open when you pull the trigger?
Why is that? I find that when I try that my left eye interferes with my use of the sights and I can't aim correctly. Also, I have trouble keeping a good form (I tend to lean backward and it becomes uncomfortable to lean forward), any tips for that?
what earplugs do you use?
Id love a couple of lessons from Chris Batha.I like his quiet and calm approach to teaching. I recently switched from Sporting to Trap, after watching this I realized what I have been doing wrong, I'm holding the gun too low for one, thats what I've been doing I'm sure (see my UA-cam clips...... ATN Shot Trak DTL shooting) as everything he described that happens when you do this, is the case with me...I just thought I wasn't quick enough for it...I will give his method a try next week...(I think I also need a Trap gun, Im using my Sporting Gun at the moment)
I was shooting in the 20's with my Dad's hunting 16ga after two months of practice. There's no reason you can't break clays with a sporting gun. ( I mean, you have to be able to kill real birds with it, right?) Sure, if you want to score at a competition level, you'll eventually need to upgrade to a gun that's designed to shoot trap and nothing else. But IMO there's no reason you can't start out with your hunting gun, as long as it fits you reasonably well.
@@gregoryschmidt1233 Well I suppose so, Its just that I personally struggled to shoot trap with my Sporting gun, but that just might have been down to me. Unfortunately I am unable to shoot either now, a couple of weeks after my post I had a rather significant stroke I'm afraid.
I don't see how that could be. My right eye works fine by its self but when I use both eyes it's hard to use the gun's sights. Honestly I have no problem shooting trap with one eye, it's my posture, lack of a proper follow-through, and the fact that I shoot wobble trap which is significantly harder that is giving me trouble. But I will look into this cross-dominance thing! Maybe I just need a bit of practice with both eyes, I've only tried it a few times.
Actually he's fabulous, Jimi :) I managed to hit three out of ten pigeons, four at the most on a good day! Because I was aiming most of the time :-/ Then I stumbled upon his videos. I did everything exactly as he said. Now it's eight out of ten on a bad day :) - See bird, shoot bird! I love you, man :D
what about follow threw?.....
I use a Miriku Trap gun the very nice and high ribed gun but i dont know about Waterfoul
Hey, I'm 14 and I shot 22 out of 25 is that good for my age or should I be shooting bettr
@TheKodiak72 Elbow kept nearly vertical when tucked in tight*
I've seen so many of these videos, if I ever see Chris Batha in real life I'd equally respect and fear his ability
good tips
これは参考になる!good!!
Y'all guys who just commented arnt that good but ok. I am 12and i shot 20 out of 25 for my third time shooting and I'm getting better.
@balls27106 Well I also shoot 15 outta 25 most of the time
Those were the pre COVID days
pretty much impossible if you didn't start shooting at age 12. The level of shooting is incredible and if you can come even close to that i would consider that a great achievement! But like ClayCoach said, nothing is impossible. Most important thing in my eyes though, is the fun you have while shooting.
how hard is it to become an olympic trap shooter?
Art Vandalay It's a pipe dream. You need to fire 1,000s of rounds a day. You also need to win multiple state and national championships then maybe someone from the US shooting team might notice you and ask you to come to the training center at your own expense of course.
Although good advice. The video's would be more useful if they were longer, and had at least a few shots on one stand so people could get a fuller understanding of at least one 'peg/stand'.
Hi. I'm always told to keep both eyes open. But that doesn't work for me. I've tried and tried, but I miss more shots than when I close my right eye. Am I doomed?
Nora Ross ...American Champion shoots with one eye closed...so you are not doomed...its just practice ...minimum would be shooting 100 clays per week...get someone at the club to check that your gun fits you...so that your gun shoots where you look...stay well and happy shooting
susan corning Yes you are. There is no hope for you and you should quit. But if you are stubborn and you want to keep wasting your money and time try shooting with both eyes open. And also maybe hire a shooting instructor.
Roger Pace I shoot five times that a day. In any weather day and night. one hundred clays that's a joke.
Dude, your a joke. Stop spamming with negative comments. If your so bloody good why don't you provide people with some positive advice and motivation?? I can't stand know it alls like you!!
What about your master eye? the right?...If you are right handed you can shoot with both eyes open.
A good score is what you think is good for you. mine is 25 of course
Ran my first 100 today
man i need to raise my earbrows, i always get atleast 20 outa 25. It'll really help to get an extra 5 more.
doesnt really help me
i used to shoot 14/25 all the time, now i hit 1/25.
I know the feeling. I used to shoot anywhere between 16-23, now I'm in the 7-10 range lol. I haven't shot trap in over 2 years, so I think I've forgotten something mechanical in my stance/aim. Have to spend some more time on the range to figure it out.
yeah, but this was only 4 months.
this did not help
How the fuck do you aim?
Glorious-D You aim ahead of the clay you want the clay to fly into the shot.
You just have to be like Tom Knapp. Nothing special.
