    I am an older guy shooting shotguns all my life, not great at it but ok, have a Remington 870 and a Browning Auto 5 made in 1953 . I want to try this , for us non professionals it seems like a fun game. When we get too serious about shooting and or missing the fun is no longer there. Have shot competitively in IHMSA and NRA etc. in years past. Your shooting tips help me realize why I miss clays at the range where we have throwers. Focusing on the bead more than the bird must be a common mistake and stopping the swing. Thankyou , you are really great in instructional videos but you make them fun to watch.

    My local shotgun club offers 5-stand in the winter. They move in a heated enclosed trailer with 5 openings cut into the side as the stations. It’s a lot of fun.

    Great video you have exactly the same idea about shooting that I do just have fun. Two months ago I shot my last five stand target. My back broke on station number three. i’m 73 years old and have been shooting for 65 years. Sure miss it.

    5 stand is great fun. Shoot it every time I see one. Some people say it gets repetitive but I like that aspect. You can practice different presentations in the same game and work on your weaknesses.

    I use my local 5 stand for practice when im on my own. I live in Bradenton Florida and we got the manatee gun and archery club that has a great 5 stand for practice in between nsca clay tournaments.
    They have a green for easy
    Blue for medium and black for hard level. I enjoy it because they put you up against 4 other opponents and after 5 shots you move over to the next station.
    The one thing i do differently in 5 stand is use a much shorter barrel because i have a much smaller window for picking up clays. I find a 24-26 inch barrel the best. My 24 inch mossberg 940jm pro really shines in 5 stand. I have multiple 25 for 25’s with it in the green and blue. Still trying to get a perfect black. So far i can do 22

    Almost identical to “Compaq Sporting”, a beloved discipline, at least in my country Greece. The only difference is the semi circular lay out of the five stands, instead of the linear one used in the Compaq Sporting. Thank you so much Steve for the effort you put in your presentations!

      Five Stand layouts differ from one club to the next. My local club has a covered, linear five stand house. Each stand has access to all targets for practice, or they can designate for competition. One can run through the stands once to warm up, then shoot a round of Sporting Clays.

    My local shoot has a compact layout (UK-ese for 5 Stand?!) and I’ve found it’s a great warmup for a 50 bird sporting clay shoot - I get my eye in (or do all my missing) seeing the same few traps from a variety of angles and orders, and find it helps me hit the ground running on the sporting layout. Great video.

    When you're shooting doubles, how do you get that second shot off so fast? Do you move the selector to the second barrel or does your gun have double triggers? Thanks.

    • @justindeaton7301
      @justindeaton7301 6 місяців тому +1

      On modern o/u shotguns the selector is just indicating which barrel fires first. Most people shoot bottom barrel first in my experience. When you shoot a pair you just pull the trigger twice. It’ll fire whichever barrel is selected to fire first, you reset the trigger, then it’ll fire the second barrel upon the second trigger pull. No need to select anything between shots or have double triggers.

    • @bobhill3941
      @bobhill3941 6 місяців тому

      @@justindeaton7301 Thank you so much for the in-depth explanation. I've been looking at how to shoot doubles here. I'm excited to try and copy the techniques being demonstrated. I recently started shooting trap with my brother and we love it.
      More importantly (for me) I'm trying to give myself all the advantages I can, to hit the second clay, because I have issues with reaction time, coordination, and timing.
      Again, thank you very much.

    I shoot 5 Stand often and I've never seen "cages" like that used as stands and they're nowhere as safe as the type that are set up like a window with uprights on either side to stop you from swinging towards the other shooters. Look at some of the other 5 Stand videos on UA-cam and you'll see what I mean.

    • @TheCdnLibertarian
      @TheCdnLibertarian 7 місяців тому +2

      Oh no! It’s something different than I’ve seen before. It must be dangerous… You have 5 across with no barriers in trap and everyone is fine. Also, unless your stations have blocking wands or frames well forward of the window you could theoretically swing your gun too far. But we don’t. Because people learn the safety rules. In my military days we would have multiple people on a range in various positions and it was safe because we all had our arcs of fire designated.

    • @MagDumpGuns
      @MagDumpGuns 7 місяців тому +1

      If you’re within the “V” there’s no way to swing through someone who is at or behind the firing line…it would take the same error that it takes for someone to flag another shooter on a PVC or metal window setup that are common.
