- One of Tim Riley's signature songs.
The group at this time consists of Brian Free, Ivan Parker, Mike LeFevre, and Tim. The Band of Gold is made up of Garry "Taco" Jones, Mark Fain, and Doug Riley.
I've felt like this song is almost talking about me, since I've been in a wheelchair for over 30 years. I just want to do something for God. He has it Under Control.
Gold city has been my favorite group since I was a kid, Dad would have our local radio station playing nearly every night and Mr.Tim Riley would be singing under control, I didn't realize how much this song would lnpact my life at the time, Till this day they are still my favorite group, ✝️
I'm so glad Jesus has everything under control. No matter what your going through. Jesus has it under control. Praise God.
I love the soft colors in both lyrics and sound
This is one of my favorite songs. It's so peaceful. Makes me feel like I"m on a boat rocking back and forth.
I love this song and Jim Riley sings it with excellence. The words are so comforting.
This is when Gold City WAS Gold City!! These four men.....Brian Free, Ivan Parker, Mike Lefevre and Tim Riley can't be replicated!!! Love them!! I listened from mid 80's until the group was different in the early to mid 90's. I'd love to see a reunion concert with the four of them!
GCs best line-up ever & one of SGs best ones...my fave GC song....remember it from when they spent a week @ our Church back in the day...
Fantastic Tim Riley, i'm sad he retired
Mark Fain was such an underrated bassist
Tim and all of these men were and are wonderful men of God and their God given voices only add to their greatness. Man can they eat !!! Baklava. Chicken...They are and were wonderful examples of Love.
Very Beautiful and so Strong ! Powerful Voice of This Bass Singer Touching so Pleasantly / Soulful Song . Tim Riley is My Favorite Bass Singer .
The bass lead is great, but he harmony in the last chorus with Brian Free coming on strong is just phenomenal!
The Bible speaks of famines and trials
in the last day how they'll sweep through our land
but we have His assurance that through all these trials
we'll be lead by His mighty hand.
Manna from God will come down from above
to restore and to nourish our soul
so through all of your trials and all of your fears
remember God has it under control.
Chorus:
Under control (the winds obey His _____)
Under control (when he speaks, the storms be still)
Oh don't be afraid (Oh, don't be afraid)
Though the billows may roll (the billows may roll)
God's almighty hand (Aaaahhhh)
is still in command (Ah, is still in command)
So rejoice in your soul (rejoice in your soul)
for it's under control (it's under control)
Verse 2:
Now you may be like David of old
and a giant trial you may face,
but just when it seems your standing alone,
you'll find Jesus standing there in your place.
With a stone of faith, your giant will fall
and Jesus all the victory will give.
So today as back then, in this world so full of sin,
remember God has it under control.
Repeat Chorus:

Amen, my Lord always knows what He is doing
Love this song !! Great message.
best bass singer EVAR!! Bar none!!
Tim really is a great bass singer. I remember when I got to meet him. He was so encouraging to my gospel group after we got started.
But seeing this makes me think of one thing: What a rug!!!
@lyndasparks Lynda, it does have a great comforting message, always a great song to recommend to those in their valley....

This song gave me strength to hold on when I was by my mother's death bed
@jdsumner he's back singing! whoohoo
Oh, I'm glad you did correct me. I do like to get things correct. Thank You.
I believe Tim will be 63 this year.
@bigboytenor He plays upright bass for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. He does an amazing job of it!
@moproducer yup :)
I think he just made another album :)
Is he wearing a rug?
at 3:46 to 3:48 does he switch to a low note, or are there harmonics that make it sound that way?
tix3 To my humble amateur ear, at 4 minute mark, Tim Riley, bass singer, hits the low note an octave lower than he sings in the melody. But he flirts with the low end of his register at times during the melody, to give you a hint that hey i can hit that low note, just wait. Great song. Powerful message. What a wonderful peace to know no matter what trials and troubles we may face, God has it under control.
@caswell1000 sorry to correct you but it's Tim
will someone please post the lyrics to this song
I tried to get the chords and lyrics for this song for a friend at church... I found a song with same name, Under Control.... but it was the wrong song... Worldly lyrics... Wonder why this song didn't come up? Anybody know where I can get chords & lyrics, please contact me! ;-)
Jeffrey Lear i posted the lyrics on this video. Dont have chords though
No doubt that Tim is a bass singer to content with. Now, when it comes to overall singer, voice quality, register, depth, resonance, In my opinion, I would go with Big John Hall, Jim McClintock. Listening to these guys voices you can feel the gravity of their voices even as they speak.
@MrKyledude18 Yeah, but Jim Riley sings it better.
The "Real" Gold City not those imposters.
