    thanks for posting i forgot how goofy Tim Riley could be at times, what i really don't get is why people, presumably Christians leave such negative comments. sure JD Sumner was great, many people think he was the greatest bass singer ever, i am among them, but that doesn't mean i need to demean other men who use their talent for the Lord. Tim Riley Ray Rease, Ed O'Neil they are powerful singers and to all i have seen in meeting them briefly men of God.if some of these commenters had their way the only music would be old recordings of the Blackwoods and the Stamps, but thankfully the Lord has many singers and many styles and new songs and new groups are sharing the gospel everyday I thank God for everyone of them even if they can't sing quite as low or true as JD Sumner once did.

    Correction: Tim Riley hit a thunderous DOUBLE LOW G. Listen for instance to Gold City doing "God's building a church" right here on UA-cam.

    What an interesting video -
    Love the music of Gold City
    since SGM Radio times. Can
    hardly believe how "thin"
    Ivan once was. He looks like
    a whole lot better now since
    he gained up some weight.

    Yeah, I like the low voices too. That's why I like Johnny Cash more than Buck Owens in country music, for instance. A lot of terrific bass singers in Southern Gospel, I gotta say! Richard Sterban of the Oak ridge boys, for one, and then there's that new guy in Gold City, he took over from Tim Riley. He's tremendous!

    If Tim Riley is a baritone, I'm a soprano..... C'mon... I know Gold City members personally, and I can tell you that Tim would hit lower notes than you ever hear him sing just goofing aroumd in the studio. He was never into showing off his range just for show. He only went super low if it meshed with the character of the song. He has the goods, he just doesn't always play his full hand.

    yeah I loved ol jd and i will admit he could get lower than anyone...but that hollow baratone BIG MANELY sound just wasn't there. Tim has a good bit of that...Bass is my favorite part and man i love to hear a good ern. I would love to hear someone like him in person...or richard with the oaks...or someone like that. My dad heard jd in person and he said on "way down" the building started shaking lol that would be really amazing

    • @yelyharmony2047
      @yelyharmony2047 6 років тому

      mike smith man...Jd's voice was simply too low...Now people crying...some don't like it becaise it was too "graspy"...and that's not his fault and he couldn't have changed that.He could have gone to the best voice school ever and he still sound like that...He could even talk lower than Tim Riley can sing...so I don't even know what you mean with "Hollow baritone sound"(That's stupid)...and "Big manly voice"(That's retarded)

  • @bigmrclean
    @bigmrclean 16 років тому

    Apparently you've never heard jd sumner. Jd can sing that 2 octives lower than they just did it. He holds the world record for lowest note recorded in genious book of records. Althought i do like this guys voice better and im a huge jd sumner fan. Jd was just so low sometimes it didn't sound normal..tims voice is just baratone mellow deep and HE is a GREAT bass singer..i would KILL to have a voice like that!

    Actually JD does not have the lowest note in the genious book of world records. That title goes to Tim storms if i am correct.

    Better voice quality as JD Sumner and every bit as deep and cavernous.

    guys stop comparing 2 different people. Tim can never be J.D. visa versa. Another great bass is Paul David Kannemar Jr of Valor (formerly of Vocal Union)

  • @wmden1
    @wmden1 13 років тому

    Opinion only; J. D. the lowest, no question, but not the most pleasing voice. Riley, powerful, very low, and accurate with pleasing voice. George, low enough, lyrical most pleasing voice and most accurate. Mike Holcomb, very low, possibly most powerful, accurate and pleasing voice until he fries at about F below Low C. Must mention London Paris, Isaaic Freeman, Jimmy Jones. My favorites are George Younce and Mike Holcomb.

  • @uglymoon78
    @uglymoon78 16 років тому

    Sorry, meant "better voice quality than JD ..." I know that JD sang a double low C occasionally. Maybe Tim Riley never hit such a low note (although he could hit a low G as tunderous as any). I meant more like the sound of his voice was cavernous. Jd was great, but his voice got a little hoarse and raspy at times.

    • @Mark-sj3xb
      @Mark-sj3xb 4 роки тому

      There’s no comparison. Tim Riley is a true vocalist with superior tone quality. JD was just a growler and spoke unintelligible.

    If "mediocre" meant "the best there probably is", then you'd be right.
    But since it doesn't, you're dead wrong, sorry.

    I'm used to the Dixie Hummingbirds version and the way he is doing the bass part is irritating me. Lol!

  • @bigmrclean
    @bigmrclean 15 років тому +1

    Tim for some reason has the record for widest vocal range and an 8 hertz note. He's not even in j.d.'s class and needs 3 huge subwoofers to even hear the note that doesn't sound half as deep as what j.d. talks. If J.d. were still alive tim storms name would not exsist. I wouldn't even really consider him a bass singer.
