GREAT to hear the film score as you work. Your skills impress me deeply.

spectacular already! your trick of flat lining the tulle to the taffeta until the waist and then sewing them as separate layers is what gives the skirt its movement...i hadn't realized how many of plunkett's scarlett dresses were princess-seamed until you mentioned it, and it sure adds another layer of complication to your reproductions...! love seeing you analyze and then reproduce these gorgeous designs! on to part 2! :)

@@ushere5791 yes all the later dresses are cut through with princess seams and all the earlier bodices are cut with them too.

I think I like the dress this way. Without all the adornments.

Stunning!!! You Sir are a Artist!. You make the most magnificent gowns with the most gorgeous fabrics that you just so happen to pull out of your stash. Sorry the comment is so short I'm off to part 2.

I have just shared some of your videos to my sewing students. I run a non-profit sewing studio near Washington, DC. I love that you just use the basics. Not even a fancy sewing machine. This should serve to inspire many of my students. I have a fundraiser every year to buy used mechanical machines like old Kenmores and Singers to give to students who would not have the means to purchase themselves. You are really an inspiration.

thank you, I have had that machine a long time and only ever use Singers as that is what I was taught on. Thank you for sharing the videos.

Absolutely Exquisite!!! I always wanted to see this Lovebird Gown without it being hidden by the dinnerctable as it is in the film.. BTW, the only of Scarlett's dresses that I have seen in another film is the Shantytown Dress, which I recognized in a 1940s Hollywood Western, and I don't recall the name of the film. I saw it decades ago, while still in high school. Thanks again for another lovely creation.

I'd really love to see you make a version of that exquisite white gown worn by Marilyn Monroe in The Prince & The Showgirl. I bet you'd make a wonderful recreation.

Bravo - Love your work and craftsmanship! Enjoy all of your amazing videos. I want to comment on the rumored story of the dresses fate... That sounds IDENTICAL to the story of one of Judy's DOROTHY dress/pinafores - exactally - WHICH I understand did JUST resurface this past year (*found still at the school were once believed lost*). Best to you, thanks for sharing your work with us

What I should have said in the story of the dress was that it was in the schools storage for years and when they went to get it out the box was empty. So I guess it had been stolen at some point and they never knew.

Looking good James! Really like the explanation of the sleeves. I love seeing this dress come to life.

thanks. I was looking at Waterloo Bridge last night and the sleeves are done in exactly the same way on Vivien's swan lake dress.

As always, brilliant. When you say, you are using techniques that were only available in the 1930’s, I wonder, what would be different today for a handmade dress like this? Also- I find your speaking voice to be so very relaxing...

There is no modern finishing so no overlocking, all the seams are finished with pinking the hems are hand sewn, no zip, it fastens with hook and bars.

This dress is absolutely stunning as of this part. How did you separate the netting and taffeta layers from each other? Any tips?

    • @jameskellylondon2428
      @jameskellylondon2428  3 роки тому

I just cut into the seam allowance in the net at the waist point so then the net and taffeta could be sewn up separately.

It was taffeta with an overlayer of black tulle. Plunkett used the layering of tulle over another fabric for many of his dresses over the years.

enjoying your videos, but i have a request. as i am hard of hearing and you are rather soft spoken, i have my volume turned all the way up. however, the music is playing very loudly in each of your videos. would it be possible to adjust the volume of those segments? also, please, turn on closed captioning if possible. thank you. it would be greatly appreciated.

Right now, unfinished, it looks like a very beautiful 1950s ball gown! I'm really looking forward to seeing it finished, as so little of it is seen in the film.
