Every time I see that green dress I think of Carol Burnett's skit on Gone With the Wind and laugh. "I saw it in the window and just couldn't resist it." LOL

It warm my heart a great deal to know someone cares enough to go through this restoration process. But PLEASE take care of them as you would your own life, for if one is damaged forever it would almost like the whole world lost leigh all over again and i don't think I could bear it! viv

The BBQ dress is at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.It is apparently stored with many others of incredible value from the world of films in the vaults.I believe it is put on show every now and again and is always draws one of the biggest crowds. So wish I could get to see it,but as I live in the UK I guess that will remain a dream xx

In the mid-late 60's the green dress was on display at Universal Studio rather new theme park in California. There was just a rope in front of it in a room, nothing really protecting it from the sunlight or dust.

Kathleen Amatangelo That’s why it looks so bad, why would they do such a stupid thing?

The color changes because nothing last forever. They should take measurement, make an exact replica of it. And put a life size photo of the real dress side-by-side. The conservation took ages and probably couldn't do justice to the dress. It's good to retain the condition as it is but just enough from further deteriorating.

"replacement feathers"? the original ones dont appear to have that bad of a problem. what would happen to the original feathers? would they be thrown away? do these discolored fabrics get replaced as well? i think there gets to a certian point where it isnt eve the same dress anymore

Exactly! They should be preserved but why replace original parts??!!

sometimes for restoration purposes in older times they used to replace some damaged original pieces. i guess the restoration or preservation practices weren't as rigid as they are nowadays. you can look up the peacock dress, they replaced the original silk flowers at the hem at the request of the owner at one point and kept the original flowers in a box in the attic. maybe in the whole movie it says the reason of the replacement of the original feathers. haven't seen the whole documentary so I don't know.

They should do a traveling show in major cities, with all of the Cinema fashions and who wore them.

That would do to much damage to these gowns. Look how bad the green one has faded, it looks like the sun got to it. Where have they been kept?

I heard that they used to take some costumes from some movies and reuse them for other movies, they would redo them so they lost their original look, what a shame but they didnt preserve originals like they value them now

I don't mean to cast aspersions on any of these works of art, but one of these dresses is portrayed on the Carol Burnett show as the green curtain gown,
with the curtain rod still in it!!
Then, Carol says, "Thank ya, I saw it in a window and I couldn't resist..!"
I love the barbaric dress the best of all!!
The red gown is beautiful, but it looks more like a floozy of the 1800's would wear!!☺️☺️✝️⚜️

the dress you are mentioning is not from the movie gone with the wind but from went with the wind, which was a skit. in the gwtw the dress doesn't have a curtain rod in it, because it was meant to fool Rhett that she was still in wealth, and having a curtain rod in it deceives the purpose. in the skit they show the curtain rod to make this scene hilarious by showcasing an exaggerated form of Scarlett's desperation of her chosing to wear drapes as a dress.
