    James! Your work is incredible! It is absolutely an honor to partner with you on this project. I only wish Pegee were here to see your work. She would be so proud. Sending this to the whole family. Can't wait for the next video.

    I had that dress made for me about 30 years ago but I had to use cotton material- at that time they didn’t have the material- for a GWTW convention in Atlanta,GA.

    I’ve made this one! Same pattern and fabric choices too. Took me about a year and a half, had a full time job while doing it. It’s one of my favorites and was a lot of fun (and frustration lol) to make and it looks so good at the end. Can’t wait to see more!

      @@jameskellylondon2428 that’s the one thing I didn’t do according to the pattern lol, all those buttonholes on the ruffle! I counted out about 1200 of them, and my sewing machine is a very basic one from the 80s. I cheated and used fray check

    The speed with which you hand sew and pleat is truly impressive with such an excellent result. May I ask how long it takes to make the entire dress from start to finish? Secondly, I wonder how hot it would be to wear such a garment in the hot, humid April of the South with all those layers of fabric, and the requisite undergarments? Thank you for sharing your talents. Walter Plunkett would hire you in a thrice.

      The skirt took me a week to make, the basic bodice I worked slowly on over a few weeks. The dress is surprisingly light considering how much fabric there is in it.

    Am about to cry, it's that beautiful. Pardon my ignorance but how did they do this in the 1860s? Was it all stitched by hand? Can't fathom the level of work. And that really looks like the fabric used in the film.

    Your work is stunning!! Did you end up cutting all of the gores on the fold? I noticed you mentioned not being sure at the beginning of the video, and I couldn’t tell in the video if you had cut them like normal, or if you had placed the gores on the center fold for cutting.

    Because organza is so prone to fraying, is there a reason you did not use French seams? I am still learning so I would like your opinion on the use of French seams.

    • @jameskellylondon2428
      @jameskellylondon2428  Рік тому +2

      thanks for your messge i didnt use french seams as ive seen quite a few original hollywood costumes and they dont do them, which is why i did the same here. they just sew the seam and pink the edges as that way it is almost invisible and you dont get the thick line of the french seam showing
