From In Tongues I can definitely see progression to his work, and I think he's only going to get better from here imo. This is really the first time I ever started closely following an artist, actually caring about new stuff AS it comes out and not months / years later, and catching up with the latest news. It was good. To me the verse lacked some focus in the arrangement, but the pre chorus and chorus felt very passionate and heartfelt. The music video had cool images but the editing was weird. I know none cares, but I would give the track a 7
Honestly I found his filthy frank writing style better. If he could turn that writing style into real music, he could be a real music figure. He is a great singer and songwriting, but his newest songs are not showcasing his talent, honestly he could be huge.
I'd also say that outside of widening his range and playing with different vocal techniques, his voice has also gotten much stronger, I wouldn't be surprised if he went into vocal lessons sometime after his ep, he doesn't have to strain to transition into his higher register or keep in key. this also may be projection on my part, but at the end of the hook when he repeats "dark", that style of belt is very reminiscent of system of a down, really tapping into the emotion
