- **UPDATE - SOUTHWEST GREENWAY OFFICIALLY OPENED ON MAY 24, 2023**
It's looking like the new Southwest Greenway is nearing completion. We were told the official target opening will be in May of 2023. Although only about a mile long, this path will provide easy access for non-motorized travel between the Detroit Riverfront Trail and Corktown. This is a little preview of what's to come. Check out the links below for updates on the plans.

I'm seeing and hearing so much positive from your town of late. It's time has finally come!
Thank you for checking out the video. Detroit has been trending up for several years now and a great place to visit.
That's super cool Jim... Thanks for the update...great work 😊✌️
@riversandcoffee ...absolutely, I thought it was pretty cool too. Got in the right place at the right time. Thank you for checking it out.
Did you get a chance to fill out an online survey about Belle Isle? There's been improvement in the city over the years regarding infra. Although I wouldn't hold my breath about a survey having an impact. Maybe in a few years.
I think I started riding the Riverwalk by just staying along Jefferson years ago around '08 and didn't know about it. Weren't many people on it. Lot more people now.
One of the main areas for improvement for foot and bike rec in the city is having more extensive infra on Belle Isle. That they have multi lane roads with loads of parking all around the island without extensive sidewalks or paths is kind of pathetic. They should go from 5 to 4 car-width lanes and put in wider protected bike lanes each direction over the bridge. Better than nothing but not great--too much glass too often on the bridge sidewalks for me.
Someone stopped near MacArthur bridge to ask me last week, "Where can I park?" Should've said: If you can't find parking on Belle Isle, it's a peak summer day and they are stopping incoming car traffic or are about to or you need to stop driving because you're blind.
Thank you for watching and commenting. You bring up some great suggestions, I really like the idea of protected bike lanes on Belle Isle.
NGL I wouldn't be running biking or doing shit in Detroit
thank you for the comment
