Detroit: Still Searching for Tiger Stadium
Tiger Stadium in Detroit was my all-time favorite baseball stadium. It was a classic ballpark that served as home of the Tigers from 1912 to 1999. It has been 25 years since the last Major League baseball game was played there. However, there are still some remnants of the stadium scattered around in different restaurants, pubs, museums, and other stadiums. Join me as we look and search for remnants of Tiger Stadium and the stories from when it still stood.

How many miles are on the trail?
That was my child hood. Wish they would have just renovated it, if it was possible. We moved to tennessee in 1990.
Why can't Tigers play a game again at this site?
foot ball feild is all done, when ya gonna make a new vedio
No one remember the bathrooms and the troughs you peed in quite traumatic when your 6 and 7 years old
Search for your Brain its gone TOO
Greetings from Türkiye and thank you very much for this perfect video♡ Also much thanks for the info♡ The city looks very clean and tidy♡
I grew up in Grand Rapids Michigan so it was real traat to drive over in my own to Tiger Stadium and watch my boys play baseball. Affordable tickets back then and enjoyed the seating and service.
Unfortunately never saw a game at Tiger Stadium but nothing beats those old ballparks. Thanks for the video.
Always Briggs to me. Loved night games, walking into the grandstands and the bright green of the turf in the bright lighting always gave goosebumps
Thank you for this video! It brought back lots of great memories and a few tears. I really really miss this beloved stadium.
Old tiger stadium was magical. Ive been to several games Comerica park its just not the same the entire design is horrible please tear it down and build an identical twin of old tiger stadium and chabge name back to tiger stadium please get rid of Comerica park name its really stupid!!
Thanks so much for watching and adding a comment. Tiger Stadium was by far my favorite place to see an MLB game. I think when the team sold it to the city, it was the begging of the end. So sad it sat around rotting for so long, so much could have been done to restore part of it. I mean if Michigan Central can get saved, anything can. Thanks again and Go Tigers!
The whole comerica thing is really stupid change back to tiger stadium. Or move it back to Michigan and Trumbull
That's the moderate world we live in every stadium has corporate naming rights You basically asking ownership to lose money it's just not realistic

My buddy has a seat he got from an auction
That is so cool, I wish I had got one back then. Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment.
The home plate & pitchers mound was also left, and if I'm not mistaken kids mowed the weeds down and started to use the field again...
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. Yes you are correct, the group that maintained the field in the years after the stands were torn down were called the Navin Field Grounds Crew. There were some organized game played there as well.
Super Cool video
Thank you so much for watching and leaving this kind comment. Glad you enjoyed it.
The Tiger that danced on the corner every game was my aunt Angele Cauchon. She was a card-carrying member of the Clowns' Union, a floozy clown known as Flutterby.
Oh my, I am truly honored to read your comment. So cool that your aunt was the Tiger Lady! Those were such amazing days. Thank you so much for watching and letting me know about your aunt.
It was a shame closing that park. Could be like fenway and wrigley. White sox park too
I totally agree, I still miss watching games at Tiger Stadium. My argument is if they can same Michigan Central, they could have saved Tiger Stadium, I kind of wish the Tigers never got city involved. It had so much potential for upgrade. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment, I appreciate it.
When they were demolishing Tiger Stadium, I took a drive by there to share some memories with my 13 year old daughter. We stopped in the rain and i could see a pile of those orange plastic seats. I lifted up the chain link fence, she scurried under and retrieved 2 sets which I still have to this day. A couple of security guards came and shooed us away. I still get emotional every time i see them. I miss the atmosphere of the old game. I miss the players who seemed like everyday guys that were grateful to play a game for a living. I miss fans who knew when and how to express their displeasure without being foul and rude, always aware that there were women and children present. I miss fans who didn't leave their seats until the inning was over. I miss Tiger Stadium. Comerica ? Lol
That is so well put and written, I totally agree. And what a great story about grabbing an orange seat. Don't see many of those around. Yeah the baseball players, fans, and stadiums are so different. I'm just grateful to see some of these remnants from time to time, always takes me back to those days. Thanks for watching, I truly appreciate it.
Mickey Cochrane's career so impressed one Oklahoma miner that he named his son for him. Kid by the name of Mantle. Ended up playing a few games at old Tiger Stadium.
Oh wow, I did not realize that about Mantle. That is so cool. Thank you for watching and sharing this tidbit.
Very well done. Sure miss that old ball park.
I totally agree, I sure miss the old ball parks of the past. Hopefully Fenway and Wrigley can stick around for years to come. Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment.
DUDE, you have got to get in contact with the members of the HAMTRAMCK STADIUM GROUNDS CREW, formally the Navin Field Grounds Crew. WE HAVE A GRAND CANYON OF RESOURCES AND STORIES FOR YOU ABOUT TIGER STADUM. And if you had've gone down a little further down the street of Michigan Ave., there are tons of stuff, over at BOBCAT BONNIES, AND THE MERCURY BAR. And it's a little bar to the left of the field, that still is open, that was the first place, the 84 TIGERS brought the championship trophy, and had a few drinks!
Oh thank you so much for this, I truly appreciate it. As for Bobcat's and Mercury I did feature them in my first video I did on Tiger Stadium last year. You are right, great places for memorabilia. I've been wanting to get to see the Hamtramck Stadium since it was cleaned up and restored. Hope to be down there soon. Thanks for checking out my video.
I got to see Gibby clear the roof in ‘95 against the White Sox. 😳
Yeah right
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. So exciting you got to see Gibby in a Tiger uniform before he retired. You might be referring to a walk-off HR Gibson hit in May of 1995 into the upper-deck. I believe his HR's that cleared the roof were in 1983 and 1986. Here is a UA-cam link to that 1995 game. Enjoy, it never gets old for me: ua-cam.com/video/mNfYwmS-U4I/v-deo.htmlsi=IxG914WP7BESGYJ6
@@greatlaker Nope it was May 1st 1994 off “Black” Jack McDowell. Search “Gibson clears roof” 2nd video 14 seconds long.
@@opinionmaximus Wow, nice find! Thanks for bringing back that memory.
@@greatlaker I obviously had the year wrong. I SWORE It was ‘95 🤣. Last of 5 games I went to at Tiger Stadium. 🥲
Wonder how Tiger Stadium could've been renovated somehow to fit luxury suites
I often wonder that too. If Fenway and Wrigley can do it, I think Tiger Stadium could have too. I think the complicated part was the city owning the stadium and saving the stadium was not a priority. I think if it were current day the results would be much different. Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment.
we all know it was michigan and trumbull
Oh yeah, my fav. Thank you for watching.
Went to many games there. I was also at the last game with the whole family, we just had to go.
Watching a game there was magical. I was not at that last game, but was at the last Saturday game a couple days earlier. Of course I watched every moment of that last game on TV. Thanks for sharing a comment and watching, I really appreciate it.
Oh, boy, the crack of that bat in the opening… magical. I sure miss that old stadium… Love the parking sign. Home Run Alley 😊😊😊 Thanks for bringing back such wonderful, rich memories. Happy father’s Day Buddy ✌️
Awe thank you so much Jim. Yeah, this "sequel" was fun to put together. So glad I finally got it out. I hope you had a great Father's Day. I always appreciate your comments.
Thanks for this video ! I'll be looking for these spots next time I'm in town ! 👍
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, I do appreciate it. I sure hope you get a chance to take in some of the history of Tiger Stadium while in Detroit.
@@greatlaker Was entertaining and informative. Am sharing with other friends who like to explore new cities . So much history and character for Detroit Tigers, the city , and surrounding area . Keep up the good work. 💪
@@jameskelly6152 thank you so much, I'm flattered. I do many different kinds of videos, but this is my favorite and true passion.
I had the pleasure and joy to be part of the development team of the Corner Ball Park. As the city had raised the historic stadium, the Old Tiger Stadium Conservancy (who contracted me) worked with PAL with the priority of keep baseball at the this corner. One of the most important goals was to keep the field the exact same dimensions and in the exact same location. The bases are in the exact same spots so kids today can still stand with their baseball bats and mitts in the exact same locations as the Tiger's greatest player. That stadium has really brought an amazing anchor to the Corktown community and brings in people from all over. Although the building is gone for years now, baseball remains at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull.
Thank you so much for this, I had read a while back this was the case (including the flag pole in the field of play) and it's good to hear you confirm the field location. I'm honored you watched my video and added this comment.
Is it open to the general public?
With the Corner Ballpark, it's good to check ahead to see if there is an event or call them to see if you can get it. It is not always open. I did go to a college baseball game there back in April and it was free to just walk in. Thank you so much for watching.
The Mets and yankees got so greedy selling the seats from old yankee and shea stadiums fans cancelled orders!
Yeah, that's too bad. For as many games as fans attend it would be nice to get a part of that history for a decent price. Thank you for watching.
Its an American tragedy that Tiger stadium was lost. I'm a Mets fan who always wanted to visit Tiger. 🐅
The city owned it and just left it to rot. It was a dark time for Detroit and saving the stadium just wasn't a priority. I think if happened now it would have a different outcome. I like the idea of the Corner Ballpark, it would have been nice to at least save a part of the grandstand. I appreciate your comments.
Cool 👍👍👍
Thanks Jim, enjoy your weekend.
Pretty falls!!
And it’s in a cute town as well. Thanks for checking it out
Hello i am new here watching your video great place and buildings
When you came around third base, remember Lou Brock didn’t slide in the 1968 World Series and was tagged out by Bill Freehan
Oh yeah, that was a classic. When I rounded 3rd I kept thinking about Kirk Gibson's HR off Gossage in game 5 of the 1984 World Series. Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. I appreciate that memory.
Incredible music came out of this building.
I totally agree, just incredible.
Let’s preserve forever
I think that is the plan, as they will be expanding the museum.
Nice!!
Yes, such a historic place
Thanks for checking in. Lots to see and do around here.
Cool! I haven’t been to Detroit! 👌☀️☀️
I used to write the ticket office and specify the exact row I wanted. They would oblige and didn't even charge a convenience fee!
OMG I totally forgot about mail order tickets. I did the same thing. Also I kind of recall getting Tiger tickets at Hudson's (no fee). These were the years before "CTC" tix came along and started adding the fees. Thanks for watching and leaving this memory.
