- In this short series of videos I'm looking in detail at the 5 phases of the system of car control. Acceleration is the fifth & final phase, so here's my advice on the correct use of acceleration to enter, drive through & leave a hazard.

I noted the lift off the accelerator 4:00 so you were not passing the truck at the same time as the white van coming against. Demonstrated perfectly what you talked about at 12:17

One of my examiners advised me not "talk with your hands " whilst giving a commentary. I didn't even realise that I was doing it!

traction control/ stability management, if you find it goes off rather often but you are trying to behave, you might find the tires, although probably legal, will be getting near the end of their life.
my usual vehicles are a Ford Transit van and a kawasaki versys 650, i noticed on my van the front wheels after 15000miles were struggling in the wet or damp roads when accelerating onto roundabouts or out of junctions, i also found they made the steering wheel wobble on the motorway (i used pirelli carriers on my 12 year old van). decided to treat myself to new tires about 3k to 5k miles early and it was a great difference. but in hindsight i should have waited a week as that same week, van parked on the street near home and someone drove into the side of it, writing the van off in the process.
I would definitely be fuzzing out the digital speedo if this were me :D Nice video as usual though.
If only these insurance companies would give us a proper discount on premiums for drivers having further training, the roads would be a lot safer!
Do any of your videos talk about dealing with tailgaters, and what to do in situations where you are being tailgated?
Yes he does cover it - I think in the Position vid. In essence, if you have a tailgater within your zone of relative safety, extend your following position to allow you to manage any necessary decelerations.
How do you deal with other cars that are way too close if you're doing 20 in a 20? We're seeing more and more 20 limits around here but some drivers really object to me doing 20......
Keep extra distance in front and try to not let them under your skin, just another bad driver....
If you can, turn the rear fog lights on without slowing. Usually sobers them up.
A handful of marbles through the sun roof ?
One other way you'll know you've hit the accelerator too hard is you'll set the IDR off lol and have a traffic skipper looking at your drive. Not that this has ever happened to me might I add but I've seen it happen.
