The heat gun helps smooth the plastic wrap, and protect the soap from air. If you don't have a heat gun, you can simply wrap the soap in plastic. Just make sure to wrap it nice and tight. =)
@margeespela Hi Margee! To help your melt and pour layers stick together, I recommend spraying each layer generously with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Temperature could be another reason your layers did not stick together, super cold environments make it difficult for the layers to adhere. What you can do is simply remelt your layers individually, and pour them again spraying plenty of alcohol between each layer. I hope this helps!

Hi MaryJaneGrrl! I'm not quite sure what you mean =) The order in which I use heat on the different areas of the soap is the method I found to work best to result in smooth packaging.

You can package your soap with the technique in this video! That includes wrapping it with plastic wrap and using a heat gun. The heat gun will shrink the plastic wrap around the frosting. =)

You should wrap it in baking paper, a lot of people nowadays only buy soap to avoid the plastic.

I wish BB carried more than one organic M & P base. I'd love to see all of the specialty bases offered in organic, in addition to the regular bases, since having only one is very limiting. Also, it would be nice if you used a different type of protein than GM-soy (at least for the organic bases). Maybe wheat protein would be a good substitute?

yes, the heat will make the cling wrap will tighten up and stick to itself, preventing it from unwrapping by itself
This is great episode, thank you for making them. Is there any way to tell what mold goes with what packaging, i like box packages, it saves a lot of troubles, but, im starting out on this and i need to streamline everything before starting, the packaging on the site does not say what size the soap should be, what mold you need to use so you can get the dimensions right, and just worry about the thickness, is there any way to know this?

All of our molds on the website will say what size the soaps are, and how many ounces the cavities hold. That way you know what size your soaps are and what size packaging they will fit into. =)

i use my hair dryer on its highest setting and its works just fine.

I just read a review at Amazon for that book and the person stated that this transparent soap can't be used as a melt and pour base. Can you clear up my confusion, please? She said M & P was a completely different process and that the transparent soap would "make a bubbly mess" when put in the microwave. Is that correct? Would the same hold true if you melted it on the stove-top (in a double boiler, if needed)? Have you made M & P base from the recipes in that book?

Hi i love your video on packing ideas .. i tried at my home too , but this shrink wrap packing turns out looking unprofessional .. Actually it creates a mess for me packing in shrink wrap , instead can i pack the soap in small zip lock air tight pouch.. please do reply on same .. And yes one more question , here in India its hard to find non bleeding colorants so is their any way out to fix these food or lab color non bleeding ? please do reply .. Thanks

It's tricky to saw what the temperature would be because all temperature guns are different, I would make sure it's on the low setting and the gun is far enough away from the soap =)

Can you guys do a video of how to make your melt and pour soap harder? The soaps turn out beautiful but once you start to use them they get really soft which makes them not last very long.

No, you do not need to cover the soap every time you use it, thank goodness! =) Once the soap has been used, you don't need to worry about glycerin dew. While it's possible it may still develop, most people don't mind because it has been used.

I have found that most hair dryers don't get hot enough to create a good seal. I definitely recommend in using a heat gun instead. =)

I have a few bars that it's happened to (my own fault for being lazy) but I actually really like the texture the bars got from it, I was wondering if there was a way to get rid of the dew and package the bars without it coming back?

But you can't package CP into plastc wrap.It will get rancid. You can use Cellohane, but it won't shrink.
I've been wondering, if M&P soap can sweat or shrivel if you don't shrink wrap, won't it just become unsightly when you use it at home and it sits on your sink counter?
Hi Zoe! If left unwrapped, melt and pour soap can sweat. It is usually a small amount, and usually does not greatly effect the look of the soap. But if you'd like to prevent this, shrink wrapping is the way to go! =)

You can definitely use these wrapping methods for cold process soap! Just make sure to let those soaps cure for 4-6 weeks before wrapping them. The curing process creates a milder bar that lasts longer in the shower. =)

How do you wrap soap while allowing people to smell what it's like? The first step of using clear plastic wrap doesn't allow that. Just trying to gather more info.
So how does a heat gun whose 'low' setting is several hundred degrees not melt the M&P? Is it just about technique and using really short bursts to heat the plastic? And how do you not burn your hands with the heat gun...? 0.o Would you recommend gloves of some sort for klutzes...?
+Jeannine Marquardt Short bursts are the key! We recommend aiming the heat gun at your bar for just a second. That will shrink on the plastic without melting the soap. Much longer than that and the soap can melt, as seen with the hedgehog soap.
Also, the handle of the heat gun stays cool so you can handle it! Be careful to not put your hands in front of the heat gun, as that can burn. If you feel more comfortable using gloves at first, you can if you like. =)

You can use an airtight container if you like! Anything that protects your soap from the air works, as moisture and humidity in the air can cause sweating. =)

+Sherona Anna You can use plastic wrap for both melt and pour and cold process soap! While you wrap melt and pour as soon as it's cool and hard, cold process needs to cure for 4-6 weeks before wrapping. =)
