so whenever straight hair dreads grow out, they grow straight at the root? and that's when you gotta do the upkeep? would it be better to dread them after taking out cornrows? as far as roots grow out lol. sorry, lots of questions.
Grzybson my hair is around 3-4 inches depending on what part of my head you look at and I have been using the twist and rip along with crochet hooks and they have formed very well over the past 2-3 days

People with light blonde natural hair be lucky asf they can literally dye their hair any color without bleaching it 😭 they get to damage their hair waaaay less

mocfive yes they grow out straight from the root, and that is when you maintain them, some ways to maintain them are interlocking & crochet hook
