Porter is one of my ancestors and i am so grateful to know that and for all he did for the church and its restoration. He is a good ole Lehi Boy. I know that’s one of the reasons I love the prophet Joseph Smith so much to know my ancestors were devoted to the prophet. 💙💙💙💙💙💙 love this video so great

He's one of your ancestors, not your descendant. You've misused the word descendants. For him to be your descendant that would make you one of Porter's ancestors. *You are one of Porter's descendants.*

If y’all believe in the Bible, the word and only the word. Then you’d know after Jesus suffered for our narly sins we are now given the Holy Spirit and no longer given prophets but the spirit which is much much greater so I believe that’s what was happening. Joseph and porter had great faith

1:05:20 My theory as to why he got up and put his boots on before laying back down to die is similar to why Elder Rasband's father-in-law wanted his Temple Recommend renewed before dying, Porter knew Joseph was coming to get him, and he wanted to be ready.

Why would anyone be dependent on their temple recommend instead of expressing their faith in the Savior to get in heaven? Lorin Walker Dibble (29 May 1844-26 June 1888) was the son of Philo Dibble and Hannah Ann Dubois. Philo was prominent in early church history and was one of the first people baptized in Kirtland. It was because of Philo and Hannah that Porter Rockwell spared Lorin’s life that day.

I believe Porter knew it was his time to pass over. I believe Joseph appeared to Porter when he sat up in bed, so Porter put his boots on to follow Joseph (as a symbolic gesture) that unlike Nauvoo, he was not to be denied and was going to follow Joseph this time.

That story of Porter and the man who lost the bet teaches us 2 valuable gospel principles: 1. Be prepared. 2. Hesitation can be fatal.
Bad man: "I've got you now Rockwell."
Porter: "You can't shoot a man without a cap on your gun."
    Bad man: "Huh?"
    BLAMMO!
    Thud.
Porter: "Another bad man bites the dust."
    Amen.

I came to the comments to see just this. Philo Dibble was my guess and I was hoping it was right. He was an amazing man.
My 5th great grandfather gave Philo Dibble a blessing in the middle of a mob fight that he'd been shot in the stomach in and saved his life.
On a youth trek several years ago we saw Philo Dibbles name carved into the stone where the Pioneer wagon trains had crossed so they'd know it was a safe trail. 💕

This certainly a different view of Rockwell than the one I heard growing up in the 1960s...but then I'm related to the Aiken Brothers. Our family viewed Rockwell as a murderous snake who was effectively immune from prosecution because of his close ties to Brigham Young.
