Beyond Come Follow Me: Joseph Smith History 1:27-65
In this week's Come, Follow Me lesson, we learn about Moroni's first visits to Joseph Smith. Moroni tells Joseph about the record which is buried near his home. Joseph would go to the Hill each year. What happened each year when Joseph would visit the Hill? And what allowed him to finally obtain them after so many years?

This is important, everyone needs to hear this, especially now as it is being fulfilled more and more. And they need to hear it before the nations sink to the levels of depravity spoken of in the Book of Mormon.

So I am not sold on the idea that it was a business deal that caused the conflict. I know that I’m looking at this from a 2025 worldview but I do work with masters professionally. It’s very common for ministers to build relationships with each other. However, we can all agree in this case. They had some sort of relationship that went bad. What that was about we will probably never know. Just from my experience, it seems that it happens today because ministers can be very very very opinionated. There’s actually a joke that when you have three Baptist ministers in a room, you actually have eight opinions. I wouldn’t be shocked if it turned out that each minister wanted the things to go their own way And their opinions got in each other‘s ways that they lost sight of what was really important. There’s also a good chance that the leaders were very narcissistic and we’re fighting each other and manipulating each other and their congregations. The behavior does seem to fit narcissistic personalities. Just my opinion.

There is no way Joseph Smith could see God or Jesus and be alive. No one, not even Moses can see God and live. You need to read the Old Testament and learn the truth. The LDS church is false, learn the truth.

From an old book in the Astor Library we learn that on No- vember 3rd and 4th , 1833 , sixty - two male residents of Manches- ter , Ontario Co. , N. Y. , made an affidavit that the family of Joseph Smith , Sr. , with whom the Book of Mormon originated , are a lazy , indolent , intemperate set , whose word is not to be depended upon . Joseph Smith , Sr. , and his son Joseph , in par- ticular , were considered entirely destitute of moral character , and addicted to vicious habits .

Josephs orrupt mother enjoyed quite a reputation for " telling fortunes " and was filled with other odd conceits and supersti- tions . His father dug wells , made baskets , peddled beer and ginger bread , and seems to have been everything by turns and nothing long . Mrs. Smith did washing by the day , but her em- ployers soon learned that it was not safe for the clothes to re- main out after dark . Young Joseph assisted generally and soon had a reputation of being an adept at robbing hen - roosts and orchards . Indeed , the reputation of the Smith family is said to have been of the worst kind . " They avoided honest labor , were intemperate , untruthful and suspected of sheep - stealing and other nefarious practices . " From all accounts they were the ter- yor and torment of the neighborhood . These accusations are generally denied by Mormons , but Smith himself partly admitted them , affirming that he had " never done anything so bad as was reported of King David , the man after God's own heart .

Which account? It's been altered so many times over the years. As members we've been told the restoration and existence of the church all hinges on the first vision but which account is correct? Given the religious fervor that was occuring in the early 1800s it's easily to understand the likelihood of many being misled. Including Joseph Smith and his desire to come into alignment with traditional Christianity and its teachings and values.

Ever have an experience in life and you retell it several times; maybe to a friend or two and then to your Mother? You may find that you use different phrases or leave some things out. It doesn’t change the facts. Joseph saw God the father and His son, Jesus Christ.

You don't sacrifice your whole life and die for something that you are not positive of. Joseph declares that he knew that God knew what Joseph had seen and that he could not deny it. Joseph's First Vision written accounts were directed to the general public and geared to a different specific audience each time. The accounts Joseph Smith gave to people privately have even more detail emphasizing different things. You should check out the podcasts like Talking Scripture and Follow Him, that have a lot of great detail. The answer to questions in Church History is more Church History, make sure it's from real sources, not just critics.

@@victoriaorme1564 I agree the telling of the accounts could be different, but was the original account, the unverified experience accurate unto itself. Keeping an open mind to other possibilities of the actual experience and not relying on "edited" materials the church has published over the years brings into question the accuracy of the whole event?

I’m confused about you saying that Lyman Johnson heard about Joseph Smith while in business, was converted and baptized, purchased a copy of the Book of Mormon and gave it to his parents to read who then joined the church. According to other church records it is stated that John and Elsa went to Joseph Smith, had their experience with her arm, were baptized, and then returned home and converted their sons. Someone please help me understand. Thank you

I know and I believe everyone will soon know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and these things are true an we are experiencing the last days before Christ's return. It will soon become apparent that misguided men in league and following Satan are carrying out his evil plot for the enslavement of all people as outlined in Ether Ch 8. Can you see it happening now? Our Constitution was written under common law and now has been subverted until our Government, acting as a corporation under international law, does almost nothing it is supposed to do and everything that is forbidden to it. People no longer act freely for themselves but blindly trust this government to tax and regulate every aspect of their lives with license, fines, fees and restrictions totally foreign to the practice of liberty or freedom. Banking will soon be completely cashless. You will soon see a day when banks will no longer accept cash deposits and then you will know we are in a completely unconstitutional cashless society where you will have no rights, only government granted privileges. But I believe the Lord will show many mighty miracles to all the people so that the Jews, or at least some of them, will believe in him and all people will have to choose for themselves to follow Jesus or remain imprisoned by the false laws of Satan and eventually perish. Why will it be a difficult choice to follow Christ?
